In the last 6 months our daughter's classroom has repeatedly closed for 5 days at a time, with the latest closure happening despite zero cases of Covid in her classroom. Communication with parents has been minimal, inconsistent, and reactionary. Our experience has been not been a unique one, with similar closures occurring in all the classrooms. There is a significant movement among school families to remove their children due to the ongoing lack of consistent childcare as well as a lack of future strategy. **Full disclosure, we are a vaccinated, science following, and mask-wearing household.

Nancy is the lead teacher in the infant classroom and she is amazing. We were new parents at the time and didn't really know what we were doing. Nancy helped us navigate the newborn phase by answering all our questions and gave us advice and resources. Unfortunately, we moved when our daughter was about 20 months old. SLMS was all that we knew at the time so when we began the search for other daycares, there was a HUGE difference in teaching philosophies, cleanliness, and just quality of care. Just a few things I appreciated/noticed at SLMS compared to other schools/daycares: - The infant and toddler classrooms have indoor and outdoor shoes which is great for cleanliness and germs. - The Montessori philosophy teaches them independence. They have self service breakfast every morning in the toddler classroom. Many other daycares do not. I know our daughter misses that. - Many of the other daycares will disrupt the class for parents to tour the school (which i did NOT like). I remember at SLMS, the administration was very cognizant of not disrupting the classes which is exactly how it should be. There are tinted windows so if parents want to see their kids interact or for tours, they are not distracting the students. These are just a few of the things that separate SLMS from the others. While tuition is expensive, it is worth it. We definitely miss the staff and school. SLMS really spoiled us and now we can only hope to find a school of similar caliber where we are.

Also due to COVID changes from DCFS and DHS, there has been a lot of staff changes because of the extra work that was required of staff which lead for many of them to leave including the certified teacher, who was there for 8 years, and Ms. Wendy who was there forever. It was probably a blessing in disguise, because, now, the newer daycare aides have stuck around for while and they are truly the best and very hard working and caring women. I am not sure if any of them are currently certified teachers, regardless, they care of our babies. I am so hands-on mom and would tell them do this and do that and they are really good and listening to my request. I also love how this daycare seems like a school. They are always teaching something new to the children, have holiday photo shoots, and parties for them. Their calendar is filled with activities as well for the infant rooms. They do their best to update photos on dojo and adhere to COVID rules. This place has been through a lot in the last year (both professionally and personally) but Mrs. Adriana works hard not to skip a beat. Daycare owners and aides do not get a lot of credit and this place deserves to get noticed. My son, who is now 13 months, gets so happy to go to school and gets very cheesy when he sees his teachers. When they initially started going like any other child they would cry for Mommy, Maria Emilia asked me to stay in the lobby and she would call me if any assistance was needed.
