Let me start by saying that the low reviews are from over 2 years ago. I started taking my 2 year old twins here at the age of 18 months for the Spanish Immersion Class. Now 6 months later they follow directions, they sit for circle time, and love Senora Maria Emilia. They see the same classmates and the class keeps growing. I take them Saturday mornings from 9:30am- 12:30pm not only do they get to eat lunch there but it is a great BREAK for me to run errands and enjoy the famers marker without two 2 yr. old toddler twins. When they initially started going like any other child they would cry for Mommy, Maria Emilia asked me to stay in the lobby and she would call me if any assistance was needed. There were a few times where I had to sit in class with them to help ease the separation anxiety. Now they run into class when the door opens! The kids love Beth at the front desk and this place gives you a good home feeling. I would recommend this program to any parent particularly twin mommies... She works great with twins there is another set in the class. read more

Our son has been attending LMS since Sept 2016, he was 22 months at the time. We were looking for a parent/tot activity in Spanish near our area to keep Spanish in use outside our home. We attended the Saturday parent/tot class for a year and enjoyed it, lots of music activities. The activities are engaging and the music is catchy. The school also has a preschool program, which we enrolled our son in Aug/Sept 2017. Our son had separation issues. Maria, the founder, was and is amazing helping him adjust and extremely patient with him and with all the children under her care. She would send updates/photos letting us know how he was doing. The communication is very open and scheduling is flexible if something comes up last minute, bonus lots of help with potty training and consistency. All the teachers and staff are great with the children. He's excited to go to school and always talks about how much fun Brando (teacher) is. At home, we hear him sing the songs he learns at school while he plays with his younger sister. We've also started our 13 month old daughter in the parent/tot class this past February. We've been at the school for over a month now and love it! Our nanny unexpectedly resigned and the whole LMS team has been incredibly compassionate and accommodating; the Director even met with us on a Sunday to discuss options. The teacher gives a daily update on naps, behavior, etc, which informs how I plan the rest of their day. The school is clean and filled with cheer, and the entire staff is pleasant. My children are making friends and love school, and they say a few words in Spanish at home. read more

Our family has been a customer of the Language and Music School for a short time now with my four-year-old son. They welcomed him into piano lessons very happily when other music schools/teachers would not accept a student of his age. We felt he was musically talented and knew he could handle the attention span quite easily but the others had told us he couldn't. The Language and Music School even had trial lessons with a few different teachers to make sure we felt comfortable with the teacher he would be working with. We also loved the fact that they shared the title of the piano book he would be working with instead of making us buy from them and referred us to Amazon to look for it a little cheaper than they could offer! They let me and my husband sit with our son and his teacher the first few times to make sure it was a smooth transition with getting him comfortable and confident. They offer so much at this place! I see people coming in for singing, guitar, foreign Language lessons, among many other things! We definitely plan on continuing to encourage our son to pursue his musical abilities at the Language and Music School! P.S. Tim, my son's teacher, is amazingly patient and caring while working with such a little beginner. He's a great person to work with littler ones. read more

Ms. Maria has poor interpersonal skills! My child was "assigned" a teacher, by her, per her requirements. The assignment was not a good fit, and she decided to change the date & time of the class without consultation. She refused to speak with my husband or I. Her staff is phenomenal, they were understanding and apologized for her not being/making herself available. I have heard great things, but walked away very disappointed. read more

There are a few quality instructors here but the administration staff is absolutely terrible. The yelper that mentioned that the admin here lacked interpersonal skills was spot on with that assessment. For the $80hr rate that they charge you can most definitely find top notch language/music instruction in the oak park area from instructors that appreciate your business. read more

The founder Maria is very nice, my 3 year old son always goes directly to her, and hugs her before school starts. It seems as if she's very compassionate about teaching, as well as for the students. She's also very good with responding to text messages if you need to get a hold of her. Brando is also another good teacher there, who the kids seem to enjoy being around. read more

My daughter started taking the Music and Movement class at LMS at age 1. She enjoyed the class so much that we enrolled her in the Spanish Immersion program, which she loves even more. You can see that all of the children are highly engaged and Señorita Maria is passionate about her craft and has great relationships with her students. Although many of the teachers and staff are very nice, the owner's policies are questionable. There is extremely limited flexibility for making up classes . If bad weather necessitates Oak Park school closings, the owner will decide that her school will be open -- even though she claims she adheres to the decision of the schools in the area. Her need to be right often interferes with her ability to collaborate with parents. Also, the school is dismal looking and a sewer smell permeates the classrooms. Do not go here! Almost nay pace would be better than LMS. read more

The Immersion Spanish class is one of the best gift you can give a child. The staff is professional caring and really love what they do! This program is a small investment that will payoff as my little one growns into a strong positive responsibility individual for the rest of his life. My daughters have been enrolled for the last year with Mrs. Faith taking piano lessons. They struggle with wanting to practice at home, but are always excited and eager to go to LMS for their weekly lesson. Mrs. Faith is energetic, fun and patient. They have made a great deal of progress in their music education with her. The staff is always friendly and has been flexible with our make up sessions as needed. The waiting area/restroom needs an upgrade and I usually find it more pleasant to go wait elsewhere or take a walk during the lesson, that's the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars. read more

My nephew, Elliott, loves taking music here. He has been a student here for over 4 years. He has mild to moderate autism, but he has surprised me on how well he has progressed. He reads music very well and he is very passionate about learning. It has prepared him for music classes in High School, so he can participate in the general education music classes. read more

An interesting place. The preschool side of things seems to run smoothly; the couple of times we've been in, there are lots of happy little ones running around at pick up time. I was interested in private language and/or music lessons for 2 of my kids, and that's where things seemed strange. We were signed up for "trial" lessons with several different teachers, all of whom seemed nice enough, but who didn't have a lot of information to offer us re: curriculum, expectations, approaches, etc. The piano my daughter tried for one segment of a "trial" was in poor repair and "sounded funny." She really liked one teacher, but it turned out our schedules didn't work together, and we felt pushed into signing up for lessons with another teacher. You are required to pay for 8 lessons upfront, and have very limited options for flexibility with times and days. In the end we didn't feel comfortable with the overall feel and paperwork involved, so wrote off the lost "trial" money and are continuing to look elsewhere. read more

My 23 month old daughter and I have been attending parent-tot Music w/Movement & Spanish since the summer. This session, she began attending the Spanish immersion pre-school 1/2 day a week (we plan on increasing her attendance soon). She adores Ms. Maria Emilia Fermi-Crawford, her group leader and the LMS founder. Tonight as my daughter, her father and I were reciting our 1,2,3s in the car, she began reciting the numbers in Spanish, all the way through 12. We don't speak Spanish at home and had no idea she knew more than a couple of Spanish words, let alone her numbers. She's only had three 1/2 days of immersion classes, so we're floored. On the other hand, the teachers, particularly Ms. Maria Emilia, are so enthusiastic and they make everything so much fun - it doesn't feel like "school" at all - that its hardly surprising she's learning.
