I can't say enough great things about Dr. Ivory! To start out my father has hearing loss that started about 10 years ago. He's had the 'Lamborghini' of hearing aid and he's also tried mid level aids (as far as expense goes). Nothing worked well enough! Crowded places became a problem and eventually all situations became a battle to stay engaged in the conversation. My dad enjoyed nothing more than going to a bar and 'shooting the bull' with friends and family...We were losing my dad! My mom has Parkinson's and her voice is getting increasingly softer... making it very difficult for the two of them to communicate at all! My dad complained that he felt like the hearing aids 'plugged' his ears and not helped. He went often to get his ears cleaned in case that was the issue. We went to specialist at UCI and multiple hearing specialist with very little help. I did a deep google search for someone who could 'custom' fit hearing aids and found Dr. Ivory! From the minute I called the office and spoke to Dr. Ivory himself he was professional and realistic! He didn't guarantee a miracle but he did think he could help. We made an appointment and made the hour drive... it was worth it! He did tests that had not been done before at any of the facilities we had gone to previously! He stated 'it's unfortunate that you hadn't had these tests done, as they should be standard practice.' After testing and consulting we were given options of hearing aids... they are definitely not free but they do come with a trial basis to determine the efficacy! I took my son to see Dr. Ivory to perform a hearing test. He has had multiple ear infections in the past few years so since that's cleared up, I wanted to make sure his hearing was fine. The office is conveniently located in La Canada with plenty of parking in the back as well as on the street. Access into the office is very convenient since it's on the first floor. I found Dr Kevin Ivory because of Real Ear Measurement (REM) I have always had a high frequency hearing loss (which my dad also had). I couldn't hear birds chirping, some doorbells, and recently--the timer bell of the microwave. I often could not decipher my wife's speech with her words being muffled, I repeatedly had to say, "Say that again." I also suffered through TV dialogue that was muffled, I especially had difficulty understanding female characters. I repeatedly had to ask my wife," What did she say." My wife has been asking more frequently, "When are you getting your ears checked?" I did research on hearing aids and decided I wanted premium hearing aids with the following features: (1) automatic digital sound calibration, in a variety of settings, from any direction (2) Behind the Ear (BTE) positioning of microphones (3) small profile and thin tubes (hard to see) (4) Receiver in the ear (RTE) and (5) Direct broadcasting of TV audio to the hearing aids. I tentatively selected the Phonak Audio Marvel Hearing Aid which was touted to have all these features. I first looked at Costco but a plethora of negative reviews about product quality and difficulty in getting an appointment put be off. They have good prices for hearing aids but their products tended to be a behind the curve in premium features (e.g., last year's model). I was determined to find an audiologist to fit and adjust the hearing aids using "Real Ear Measurement" (REM). This technology ensures that aids meet the hearing loss prescription. (Note: Information about "Real Ear Measurement" (REM) is available in clips produced by Dr. Cliff Olsen, Audiologist, Applied Hearing Solutions, Anthem Arizona). Research in the last five years indicate that only about 20% of Audiologists and hearing care professionals are using REM. My search for a suitable audiologist in Los Angeles focused on those that: (1) Offered suitable premium hearing aids for sale (2) Used Real Ear Measurement and (3) Provided easy availability for appointments. I realized that to get all this, I probably would have to pay a higher price for these services. I searched the Internet and found that few audiologists advertised the offering of Real Ear Measurement (REM). Only several private practice audiologists even mentioned it. Costco Hearing Centers offered REM but no all centers have audiologists and it's hard to get appointments (according to many reviews).) I found Dr. Kevin Ivory, Audiologist, at La Cañada Hearing Aids & Audiology. What caught my eye on his website is that he promoted the use of REM. He is in private practice, is second- generation audiologist and is a lecturer at Cal State Northridge. I also liked his picture; I was looking for young doctor who was up on the latest technology and he seemed to fit the bill. I was able to get an appointment with him in 3 days after my first call. During my initial appointment, I found Dr. Ivory to be very personable and knowledgeable. He provided a hearing test using REM and found that I had a Profound hearing loss for the higher frequencies. He was very familiar with of the Phonak Audio Marvel hearing aid that I had researched. However, he recommenced the Starkey Muse IQ as the aid that would better serve my hearing prescription. Especially attractive was capability to recharge batteries. I went for the Starkey product. One week later I was fitted with my hearing aid. I can now hear my wife and my TV audio with extremely natural sound. The recharge unit is very easy to use. On my second adjustment appointment, 6 days ago, Dr Ivory adjusted the "home" volume down one level and the overall sound is even better. I am extremely pleased with my new hearing aids, my audiologist and I appreciate the technology provided by REM. My next follow appointment is a week away. Stay tuned. Van M. I have only great things to say about dr. Kevin Ivory and la canada hearing aids and audiology. I am 40 years old and noticed some slight hearing loss in my left ear and dr. Ivory immediately ran the appropriate hearing tests and helped me understand what the issue was. He was patient and explained everything in a simple way. He took his time which I appreciated very much. Because of his great initial diagnosis, it was later determined that I had a choloestoma, which required a mastoidectomy skull based surgery. Had it not been for dr. Ivory, the cholosteoma would have grown in my ear, eventually entering my brain and causing complete hearing loss and other potential issues. I am still recovering from the surgery but expect a full recovery and to gain all hearing back. I will be forever thankful to dr. Ivory.
