It was quite the engaging night out! I hadn't been to La Comedia Dinner Theatre in years, so I was excited to finally use the tickets I gave as a Christmas gift--especially for Jesus Christ Superstar. I do love me some Andrew Lloyd Webber, after all. First, the good: the service was excellent. Our waitress and the bus staff were attentive, hardworking, and made sure we were well taken care of all night. Truly appreciated. And the highlight of the evening--the show itself--did not disappoint. The cast was fantastic, full of energy and talent, and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Now...the not-so-good (because every great review needs a plot twist). The food didn't quite match the level of the show. The veggies were more "mushy medley" than fresh, and the roast beef had clearly committed to being well-done...very well-done. The fried chicken had a surprising kick--unexpected, but not terrible. Drinks leaned more toward "sparkling sugar water" than cocktail, if you know what I mean. That said, the white fish and tartar sauce were solid, and the sweet potato soufflé and coffee with strawberry shortcake dessert were definite highlights. One point of confusion: gratuity. It was clearly stated that it wasn't included (message received!), but since I'd purchased tickets months ago and only paid for drinks that night, I wasn't quite sure what the tipping expectations were for our wonderful server and bus staff. Also worth noting: the seating. After nearly four hours, the chairs and I were no longer on speaking terms. I even tried switching seats--same result. While the theater has a nice, elegant feel, it does come across as a bit dated and could benefit from a refresh. The same goes for their marketing--it's easy to forget about them, and the website could use some streamlining. All in all, it was a fun night with a great show and wonderful service. Would I go back? Maybe...after my back recovers and if the menu gets a little encore-worthy upgrade. read more

I recently visited La Comedia in Springboro with a friend. As always, the performance itself was enjoyable, but be prepared for a fairly long evening--it is a full dinner theater experience. The meal begins with a fresh salad topped with a nice mango chutney dressing, which was definitely a highlight. Guests are then invited to the buffet in sections, and I must say our waiter was exceptionally kind, attentive, and provided wonderful service throughout the night. Unfortunately, the food itself was quite underwhelming. Having visited about 12 years ago, I was surprised to see that the menu has not changed and feels very outdated. The so-called signature sweet potato dish--with sugar and candied pecans--was unappetizing, and overall the food tasted inexpensive and poorly prepared. That said, the atmosphere remains pleasant, the theater is clean, and the staff is friendly. I truly enjoy the theater experience at La Comedia, but a refreshed, more modern menu would make the evening so much better. read more

Since the new owners have taken over La Comedia has been tanking. It's really sad. The Willie Wonka show was good for what it was but it felt like a high school production and not a professional show. Even the food is slipping. Dessert should have been a nice piece of chocolate pie or cake but was a soupy scoop of ice cream. (See pic) Very gross. They no longer do souvenir glasses either. You can buy and pay for the drink but don't get a special glass to take home. Sad. read more

"Scrooge: The Musical" Following Christmas, we found a packed house with all tables occupied. A wonderful musical score by Oscar and Grammy Award-winning composer Leslie Bricusse brings Charles Dickens' classic novel "A Christmas Carol" to life like never before. We purchased tickets prior to Thanksgiving, and good think we did.... Lots of on-site parking; on-site buffet is very appealing; we got very lucky with 60 degree temperatures. Our center table for 4 was perfect. Buffet line moves fast, and nearby restrooms are never crowded for men. We all know the story line, and we found this performance exceptional. We always pass on the "famous sweet potato - way too sweet. An attractive feature is entrance/exit from parking lot -- Hint go either east or west for easy return home. read more

It's fruity, tangy, and unforgettable. You can even buy a bottle for $7.00, and yes, I absolutely did. Coffee was black and bold, just how I like it--no frills, just fuel. Such a homey and nostalgic supper club in our midst-- when there are hardly any of them left! But the food!! Not sure it could be any lackluster or over cooked (at least all the veggies have been every time we come). And potatoes don't need all that sugar. You have to stick with the beef and plain salad which is average. With the Sinclair and Cincinnati culinary schools so nearby, why not bring in some new talent? And agree that the chairs are no longer adequate. Shows can be hit or miss. We are dissappointed but my friends and family just can't go anymore-- we have attended 3 shows since 2023, so I'm not sure which reservations you are referring to, Dave, but if you have a new chef we may give it another try! read more

I can't believe we have a dinner theater so close to home! This was a fun experience. The theater is quite large. I'm guessing it can hold a few hundred people. We were shown our table and there were delicious salads waiting for us with their homemade signature dressing. The tables are intimate with candles which create a lovely warm atmosphere. Dinner is served buffet style. I recommend they place hand sanitizer near the start of the buffet line. It's unusual to have a buffet where people can serve themselves. Most places have gone to having staff serve. The food was good. I enjoyed the roast beef, chicken & dumplings, green beans, and their signature cheese bread. Dessert was mini eclairs- I believe they had been frozen but still tasty. Water, tea and coffee are included so long as you order during meal time. We saw Ghost The Musical. The acting was solid. The sound system is very good - voices and music were crystal clear. They provided ASL interpreters at our show as well. read more

When was the last time you went to a theatre dinner show? Came here to see "Ghost" the musical. You make your purchase online, there are no physical tickets but you tell them your name when you walk in and they led you to your table. It's a great setup and they've been doing it for a while now. You start off with a salad and their very own house dressing. Which they sell in bottles during intermission. Clever eh? I am Deaf so I require an interpreter which they happily provide. Let's talk dinner shall we? Where to start? A man took the stage and explained that dinner will be served on stage buffet style. They have an order by which you came into the theater. The servers come to your table to let you know you can head over to the stage. It's extremely well organized. But then again they are celebrating 50 years this year!! Absolutely amazing! I don't know any place that is still in business that long and successful. It's family operated since 1955. Amazing!!! Dinner was fantastic! From sweet pecan potatoes, green beans, okra, fried white cod, broccoli, linguine, regular potatoes, chicken and dumplings, pork loin, ham and roast beef. The sweet pecan potato is what they are famous for. They have plays through out the year. We found our new home. It's just a simple hour and ten minute drive from Columbus. Great excuse to stay over night at the Hampton inn next door. A must come to experience for yourself! Let the show begin!!! read more

Went to see The wedding Singer because I love the movie. it was good, so glad we ate first so the play made me forget about the awful food. Nothing fresh at all.it all taste frozen! It was a brunch, I was expecting fresh fruit but everything served taste like it came out of the freezer. Pancakes not even fresh made but some tough frozen thing. way too many starch items. can't believe the overcooked mushed up veggies. Really I've heard fresh is actually cheaper. I skipped the corn it looked extra chewy. Sliced ham was great! Don't get excited over the salad. You would think after 50 years they could switch to bowls. It was all lettuce with 3-5 pieces of topping. so Iooked forward to that wedding cake for The Wedding Singer. Nope it was a frozen yellow short piece of cake with gritty powdered sugar glaze icing. So disappointing. Really that's wedding cake?Walmart sheet cake so much better than that. Audience was mostly older people, maybe they don't get out much or their taste buds are dead, that food is disgusting. my belly growled thru the second act & I went to a drive thru after. I work in catering & have been in a lot of venues for weddings & other events. La Comedia might have no competition as a dinner show venue but that's no excuse not to keep up & update. Their wallpaper has been up so long wallpaper is popular again. I'd be happy to go to just a show, no food. I wonder if the cooks came from some type of institution position. When you arrive you walk straight in to the host who takes your name for your reservation. Another worker leads you to the table where your appetizer salads are available. The salad we had contained cantaloupe, sesame sticks, and their homemade papaya (I think) dressing. A waiter comes to the table to ask for drink orders. While our waiter was kind, he was slow to deliver/refill drinks. It looked like her was responsible for quite a few tables and couldn't keep up. The buffet opens at 6:15 and tables are called to go based on the order they arrived. The buffet offered a variety of vegetables- broccoli, corn, cauliflower, starches - potatoes, (very) sweet potatoes, homemade bread, meats - ham, chicken masala, and roast beef. They invite you for seconds once everyone is served once. The food was not bad, but it was nothing special either. For dessert (brought to your table), we were served brownies with a dollop of ice cream. Shortly after dessert the show begins! The show was great, though we had some tables near us who were talking loudly throughout it. We went to the show during bad thunderstorms where the power went out in many areas. I think because of that, the plumbing was backed up at La Comedia causing toilets to overflow and the restroom lines to be long. Other than that it is a nice dinner theater! read more

I have been going there for more than 30 years and have always enjoyed both the shows and the buffet. But, I have to say the price ($80 for an average show) is getting ridiculous. The last two times I have been there the theatre was less than half full. It was never like that when the tickets were more reasonable. I'd hate to see them price themselves out of business. A very entertaining visit with my wife. We saw Holiday Inn and enjoyed a salad and nice buffet including ham, turkey, stuffing, glazed carrots, and green beans. Sausage gravy and biscuits were also available. Dessert was a really good warm apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. Service was friendly and helpful and my wife enjoyed visiting the gift shop. 2024 brought new owners and a new chef, together taking LaComedia back to its previous glory. The "signature " whitefish, which had become inedible recently, is now quite good again. The overcooked, unseasoned vegetables have been replaced by some tasty choices. The good things like beef tenderloin, fluffy yeast rolls, and sweet potato soufflé are still quite good. Desserts are much more interesting than they became after COVID. The shows continue to be high quality. The current production of Guys and Dolls is pretty impressive. If you have noticed a decline in recent years, it's time to return. read more

We have been going to this dinner theater for years and this season we bought a season pass. Had good food and family friendly shows and kids loved it in the past.. On this valentine's day, my wife and I went to see The Jersey Boys. This one was a total dissapointment...not because of acting or singing but presentation of something that I have not seen in this theater for last 10 years..at least in the shows I've seen. And that is the push for LGBTQ. It had no add to the story..no not at all. I think the management's choice for audience has changed. I know many conservative church groups attend their shows. I am very disappointed in you, La Comedia. I do not recommend if you have conservative values. read more

I went last night and had a mix up on reservations. Ordered on line and didn't get seats I picked. Box office was great about taking care of me and found my party comfortable seats. Some other minor issues but nothing that interfered with enjoying dinner or the play. Think it was just one of those weekends for me. Lol. Food was great and laughed a lot during the play. I bring my dad for his birthday to see the Christmas play. They also have packages for special occasions. Highly recommend here for a wonderful experience. read more

We came here for Valentines Day and we've been here before but it's been a while. The play this time was Nunsense. Here's a summary of our evening: It's slow. Expect it to take the entire evening. I scored it a 3 because of this. Arrive early. There will be a line of people waiting to be seated. You simply give your name to the person at the podium and your led to your seat. Salads came out first. A small but nice mix of sprouts, lettuce , cantaloupe and dressing. Turkey- tender and has an interesting seasoning. Very good but the portion was small. (You are allowed seconds.) Roast beef - chewy & hard to cut. Portion was small. White fish - tasted great. Nice. Sweet potato soufflé - good but very sweet Carrots - just carrots. Desert - apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream. A nice touch. Service is slow, expect to wait. And our table was missed repeatedly for service, tea, water, desert. The play was good, not Broadway in NY but good just the same. The music and singing were a cut above what I expected. Especially given the price! read more

My family and I have been season ticket holders at La Comedia for three years now! We love having a dinner theater so close and have enjoyed all the shows they offer every year! The season ticket package is by far the best way to enjoy La Comedia as it makes the shows so affordable and it's nice to have the flexibility to work the shows into your schedule. We are always able to get a table for the night we want to go and the box office is always very helpful when scheduling our next show. The tables are private for when you are dining, but you can easily see the stage from wherever you are sitting. There really isn't a bad seat in the place. We love that the menu changes to reflex the show and the food is always so tasty. My favorite is their signature sweet potato soufflé! Water, tea, and coffee our complimentary and they have other beverages you can purchase along with a signature show drink that goes along with the show. The staff is always very friendly and comes around quickly with refills and to take away dirty plates. The shows are always very fun! These aren't Broadway performers, but they have had some amazingly talented performers in the past three years. We have seen quite a few shows we probably wouldn't have seen if they weren't in the season ticket package. They also do incredible with set design and props! We love having season tickets to La Comedia and look forward to seeing many more shows for years to come! read more

Generally very good theatrics, but the food is terrible and the management/staff are indifferent to complaints. The food is almost all starches with a limited selection and an extremely small portion of whatever dried out meat that is available. Complaints to the manager/owner produced absolutely no results. It is unfortunate that the theater is sidelined by such poor quality/service. Please read and heed the warnings of the many reviews. Even Golden Corral seems like a Michelin Restaurant compared to the floor sweepings on the buffet. read more

My husband and I went this week to see Black Patent Leather Shoes with another couple, and we had a horrible experience!! It wasn't a cheap night either! WAY to expensive to have dried out pork that we couldn't eat, fatty roast beef, and undercooked Lima beans and carrots!! Then for dessert, just a cup of ice cream! It was horrible service. My husband waited until the show was about to start, to get a refill. Then when I asked if I could have a refill of my free iced tea at intermission, the waitress informed me there would be a charge after intermission!! We paid $280 for the 4 of us, to be charged for a refill on ice tea!! Not to mention, my husband's coke was almost $4.00!! The show it self wasn't that great either. Save your money!!! I did reach out to the owner, Joe Adkins, and he replied with," we should try them again sometime"! NO THANKS!!!Unacceptable!!! read more

I've been here a number of times over the past couple decades. They opened in 1975. Served 6million+ people?! Just wow... They state that this is one of the nations Oldest and Largest dinner theater. This was the 1st time I'd seen 'the Music Man' and I absolutely loved it. The cast nailed it. So entertaining. The service folks are always super nice and attentive as they can be with the number of tables they are assigned. The food, hrmmm... the house salad is a papaya chutney salad with the addition of cantaloupe cubes and served to you directly at your table. I do love this salad but I do know others that do not? The menu on the buffet never really seems to changes, meats are roast beef and ham diced right off at en of buffet. They have deep fried white fish(cod?) with a delicious dill tarter sauce, fried chicken, their famous sweet potato soufflé, potatoes, corn on the cob and rolls. All the food is pretty bland for me but everybody else at the table seemed to be happy. I should have brought hot sauce? Oh, and save room for dessert, they serve this directly to you at your table after dinner. They will come and let you know when you can go get seconds at the buffet. Choices of drinks are you can have water, iced teas and white milk for free, sodas, wines, mixed drinks, liquor and specialty drinks for a very reasonable fee. It's kind of cool that this establishment is right in my home city and I do inform folks if they are coming to this area to book tickets to attend. It is entertaining, it's not loud so you can sit and talk at the tables when the play isn't currently going on. It does get dark in there so plan bathroom breaks accordingly. If you have a severe allergies to nuts I'd be very careful coming and eating here. On Sept 14th my wife and I as well as our friends, James and Mindy visited La Comedia. We were celebrating Mindy's birthday. James and Mindy had never been. We have always given them rave reviews so thought this would be a great way to celebrate. WE WERE EXTREMELY DISAPOINTED in the poor taste of the show. It was VULGAR AND OBSCENE. Filthy perversions spewed at every turn. We hoped the perversions would stop but they just kept coming. The final straw was when the barber, RUBBED HIS PRIVATES on a customer without the customers consent. No where on the advertisement or pamphlets did it say anything about this. We were expecting a murder mystery as advertised. This is a far cry from entertainment. it reminded me of a cheap, sleezy flick, not the professional quality entertainment I had been used to from La Comedia in the past. We left just 30 minutes into the show and had to apologize to our friends for exposing them to such debauchery. We ended up spending Mindy's birthday walking around Old Navy which is definitely not the evening we expected nor paid for. Historically, my wife and I visit La Comedia several times per year and have even have held season passes. We have always been very pleased and have told everyone how great the establishment was. Very organized. Upon entry taken to your seat. Salad and drinks served while waiting for dinner. Invited to the buffet by table number. No standing in big line. Exit was easy too- no crush. The buffet was very nice, plenty of choices. And the show was wonderful! Saw Wizard of Oz. I was not expecting flying Dorothy's, witches and monkeys! Pretty awesome for a dinner theater. My wife was supposed to go tonight with her family. We have a 3 month old son that is being breast fed and unfortunately will not take a bottle so I could not keep him home with me and our other kids. She called ahead just to let them know that she would also have a lap infant with her and they informed her that it would be an additional $40 for a 3 month old. We already paid for her main ticket ($75) and so my wife was pretty upset about it since she was looking forward to a night out with her family and let them know she wouldn't be doing that. I called back and asked to speak to a manger to hopefully have a conversation about it and that common sense would prevail. When I called and asked to speak to a manager I was asked "why do you want to talk to a manager?". Now I don't call to speak to management a lot but I've never had someone question me like that when I do call, so that was already a red flag. When I called I wasn't upset and was pleasant since I figured that once the situation was explained they would realize it's not a child old enough to eat the buffet or need a seat and would not charge the extra $40. However I was wrong. The manager got on the phone and was very rude right off the bat and said it was a fire code problem and that's why they charge the additional money. I asked if it's fire code then why don't theatres charge for lap infants and then she finally said it was their policy not fire code and she wasn't changing her mind. I then said to just say that instead of lying to me about a fire code. She then responded with "your wife shouldn't even come because she's going to spend the entire show in the lobby with your kid anyway". Now I saw red. I asked if there was someone above her that I could speak to and she said she was the owner. I will never buy another ticket here and I would suggest others to do the same. To have zero compassion for a breast feeding mother is ridiculous and the owner of this theater is simply not a nice person and doesn't deserve your money. read more

Extremely disappointed and let my children and family down by wasting their weekend time by attending the July 10th Sunday brunch beauty and the beast production. Want the fancy show glasses- Sorry they are out AGAIN. Want good tasting food- Sorry the Mac n cheese won't even taste like it includes cheese and all foods overall will be bland like from a senior citizen home. Excited for that beauty and the beast performance they put on years ago that you were blown away by- Sorry this one will be low budget the magic mirror will be a frying pan, the beast will sound like he's a 90 year old who's chain smoked all his life, oh and the whole production will malfunction due to technical difficulties only to resume skipping the epic scene where the beast turns into a prince completely and wrapping up by really bad improve where the actors aren't even in the lighting to see them. Other things to note: the stage floor was absolutely unacceptable and needs completely resurfaced - just shows that this establishment is not keeping up on maintenance at all. The Stage floor is the focus point of both the buffet and production to not maintain it is shameful and I have never seen it in such bad shape in the 30+ years I've been attending with family/friends/large groups etc. Also it was so sad to see that all the little girls dressed up as belle wanting to meet her etc would never get the chance since they don't allow the cast to be in the lobby following the performance anymore. This place used to be 5 stars and worth the money. Sad to say it's not worth it anymore and it's obvious this establishment is on its way out. read more

This is a neat experience. You arrive and are seated at your table and give your drink order. Then you socialize for a bit and the salads are served tableside. These salads are really, really good. Their papaya chutney dressing is so good (and for sale after the show). However, if you have a nut allergy you will want to let them know up front since their are nuts on the salad. Next, your server will invite you to stage where the buffet is set up. It's very cool to walk around the stage and grab your food. Then there is a lot of down time to eat. Last, desert is served tableside as well as coffee if you'd like. The shows I've seen here have been very cute and enjoyable but the acting is not the best. This is not the same level as the downtown theaters but it is a good price point and it is fun. It would be a great way to introduce children to the theater and a fun date idea. read more
