We were in Cincy and stopped here for dinner on our way back. This is Ohio's oldest restaurant built inn1803. We enjoyed it! We started with cheese & crackers. House made crackers, blue cheese, walnuts, honeycomb, and cheddar cheese. A nice way to begin! I started with a cup of the chicken soup, chicken, mixed veggies - it hit the spot! Next I had the turkey Reuben and Cole slaw. Toasted marble rye piled high with turkey, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian dressing. Just delicious! The slaw was very good as well. Others had the braised short rib grilled cheese and the Dijon crusted braised short rib. They both said that they loved it! Overall the dinner was excellent! I came for the fried chicken, and the Golden Lamb delivered. Yum! We drove 45 minutes to Lebanon for lunch and it was worth it. I didn't think I would like the sauerkraut ball appetizer, but I did. The server suggested we have the salad for starters and I'm glad we did. Delicious dressing, crispy lettuce. The fried chicken though: juicy, flavorful, hot, crispy. Everything I was drooling for! Served with mashed potatoes (average, a little too thin in my opinion as a mashed potato connoisseur) and veggies. Hubs loved his short rib sandwich which and slaw. The decor fits their history as the oldest continuously operating inn in Ohio. We ate in a newly refreshed dining area that apparently was the original dining room, decorated with authentic Shaker antiques -- light, clean and airy. Lovely refinished wood floors, Shaker wooden chairs. It feels comfortable and real, not stuffy and old -- even though it's steeped in history. Our server was super friendly and attentive but not too much so. We parked in the big lot adjacent to the establishment. It wasn't crowded when we were there, but reservations are accepted in the more formal-ish dining room (flip flops not preferred). Eight of us friends had lunch here during a girls trip. We enjoyed the history and decor of this well-known restaurant. Our meals were all very good and came out fairly quickly. Our only disappointment was our waiter was not a happy camper. He seemed like he really didn't want to be there. That's not enough to give The Golden Lamb a bad review though. What a fun historic place to sneak around and eat at. Not that you have to sneak. Walking around the halls of such a historic building and getting to peak into some rooms that famous and infamous people have stayed in is such a neat experience. Presidents to Annie Oakley have been to this place. The food at the restaurant was delicious. They offer a wide range of food and drinks, mocktails and alcoholic options. My absolute favorite restaurant in all of greater Cincinnati! The restaurant is inside of the hotel, which is historical and has a lot of cool details/signs to look at around on the first floor and up the stairs. The staff is very nice and the food never takes unreasonably long. My favorite item on the menu is the Thanksgiving dinner/turkey dinner which you can get all year round! They have bread and butter to start, and it features their amazing apple butter, which I would definitely recommend buying a jar to take home. read more

The restaurant at the Golden Lamb came up silver for me, which is to say that it had a good showing but not quite the best. History and charm are hooks for this hotel and restaurant, and they deliver on those aspects. What was lacking for me was knock-your-socks-off food. The Sauerkraut balls were fine. The cocktail sauce the came with them was much better than the house mustard. The fried chicken was good. But I can't say that it was 5 star. The roasted turkey dinner had a lot of potential, but it fell in line with the rest of the dishes as leaving me wanting more "down home goodness." Rarely do my wife and I both turn down dessert in the same meal, but we had no reason to think that the dessert would differ from everything else, so we passed. Still, to be clear, nothing was bad. My friend suggested dining here with a big perk being the historical nature of the building. We were sat quickly and greeted promptly by our server. My friend got a cocktail which I tried and it was tasty and refreshing... I stuck with water and was happy with that. I ordered the chopped salad which was huge! It definitely lasted me two meals and although my photo doesn't exactly make it look like anything special, it was super tasty and filling. Especially with the rolls on the table as well. I saw another table get the lamb shank though and it made me want to drive back just to try it. It looks mouthwatering! Afterward we toured the hotel and got to see some of the famous rooms where former presidents and well known historical figures have stayed such as the Charles Dickens. This is amazing! I've been twice now and look forward to going back. The salmon dip is delicious, the shepherds pie and lamb burger are delicious. The pecan pie was to die for. The service there is impeccable. Definitely comparable to a fine dining restaurant. The interior is so beautiful. Copper ceiling, books and old pictures and paintings in the rooms. Always a great dining experience. Haven't been here in a while, so I was excited to dress up ( although there were many people in shorts, sneakers and casual. Not a stuffy place, but old school ambiance as the hotel/ restaurant is a historic site. Kylee was our server, and she was friendly and attentive. We were in the main dining room, although I wish we were seated in the smaller library (?) room, a room bordered by books, etc. We ordered a bottle of wine. The wines are predominantly from California, with some from Oregon and Ohio. Did not order a Sauvignon blanc solely because I prefer those from the Marlborough region of New Zealand. Now that I sound like a wine snob... We shared the creamy smoked salmon dip which was excellent. We were also served their house rolls with their always amazing butter, so so good, and they sell bottles of these. I had the pan seared salmon, a large piece served with a delicious carrot purée, paprika infused honey ( I'm not a honey person but OMG :0), and a yummy basil pesto. My husband ordered the Golden Lamb roast turkey dinner, his favorite, although he didn't have the sage sausage and apple stuffing because he doesn't eat pork. It was very tasty. We shared some carrot cake despite being full; another winner. What a great building. It's living history. I stayed here mid week early December. It was a snowy cold day outside. I started with a delicious dinner in the dining room. I wasn't even sure I was gonna stay there for the night, but I decided I would. I stayed on the third floor. There are no elevators, this building was built in 1802. I stayed in the Ronald Reagan room. Each room is named for a famous person. The doors are all open to the rooms and you can walk around and look inside of them, and you can pick which one you like. There's a snack room on the second floor, which they give you a key to use. They have muffins and granola bars and coffee in the morning. Parking is free. The staff was very friendly. The room had a TV. There was ice on the second floor. I enjoyed my one night stay. read more

Where to start with the Golden Lamb! If you love history, it's bursting with it. If you like small-town charm, it's location in the heart of Lebanon is picturesque, the staff was friendly, the antique furnishings were very cool, and the food was great! The Golden Lamb since 1803 started as a stagecoach inn (you can still reserve a room, 17 in total), the famous guest list is crazy: 12 U.S. Presidents plus Neil Armstrong, Charles Dickens, Samuel Clemens and Harriet Beecher Stowe just to name a few. We ate lunch in the dining area of the Black Horse Tavern. There's also an outdoor porch that seats about 60 people. The older dining rooms (Dickens Room, Shaker Room and Buckeye Room) were all reserved, but the staff was so friendly they encouraged us to walk about the building and enjoy. Just be respectful. The menu was newer so our waiter asked for patience as he was working on mastering it. Really nice guy, friendly and great with my kid. My son ordered the kids grilled cheese - whole grain bread, American cheese, fries, vegetable crudités $7. Big portion and simple. He was happy. I ordered the Sliced Tenderloin Sandwich - shaved chateaubriand, white cheddar, crispy onion straws, garlic aioli, toasted onion bun $22.95. You get two generous pieces of chateaubriand that were so incredibly tender. The portion and flavors of the toppings didn't overpower the 'wich. Total winner and a deal. My pal went Chateaubriand - crushed roasted leek & bacon red skin potatoes, white cheddar cheese sauce, maple glazed brussels sprouts $42.95. You receive four portions of meat with the main course. He reported it to be fantastic and worth every penny. Drink wise I went with a Shaker Pie Cocktail -- Four Roses Bourbon, Sister Lizzie's secret spices, cream, bourbon sugar. It's on their "Historical Libations" list. It was an interesting drink and pretty darn good after driving 8.5 hours straight. After lunch, my son and I toured the building. The guest rooms are roped off with plaques with a brief biography of each famous guest along with a short story of their stay. Obviously rooms with current guests are locked. The second floor has a door to head out onto the Southern style terrace. You get some great views of the town from there. My son really enjoyed stopping at the Golden Lamb, we took so many pictures to remember our visit. I highly recommend going there. As far as Ohio goes, it's one of the most historic eateries to add to your travels! read more

We had dinner here after a train ride with our kids and my parents. I appreciated the cozy and family friendly atmosphere. Our food was very good. I had the steak sandwich and it was delightful. My parents had fried chicken and thought it was great. Kids had chicken fingers and especially loved the fries. The only hesitation I would have in giving the restaurant 5 stars is that our service wasn't great. There were several empty tables (they weren't overly busy) yet we had to ask for the included bread service three times and water to be refilled a few times. The tables around us received their appetizers and bread, so it seemed like it may have been an isolated problem. Our appetizers took so long that our food was almost ready by the time we received them. Overall, if you're in the area, I think you should stop by and see the building and appreciate the history. I'm not sure if we will plan a return trip, but I'm glad we went once. read more

My son and DIL had never been to the golden Lamb so we decided to try and get in without reservations. We lucked out but had to eat on the veranda. But it wasn't totally hot so it wasn't unbearable. We started with the farm table appetizer. It had pickled peaches, pickled cauliflower, ham, egg salad and homemade garlic crackers. It was good but no one liked the pickled peaches. I had the fried chicken (so did my DIL). My son had the short ribs with Dijon mustard. Short ribs were excellent, chicken was dry and overdone. Rolls were fantastic and service was wonderful. The menu needs some changing. Theres not enough variety on it but they enjoyed their first time. My father in law has talked about the abundant history & the food at the Golden Lamb for as long as I've known him (7 years) so we finally made the short drive from Chillicothe to have lunch there today. The area around the GL is quaint with history markers every few feet. The restaurant itself is filled with period furniture & décor. A casual restaurant but it also feels a little more upscale just based on the decorations, layout, & overall atmosphere. We were told we would have an hour to hour & a half wait so we decided to go to the antique store next door. Before we could even get to the storefront my phone dinged saying our table was ready. Less than 5 minutes after giving our name! Once we were seated we had our drinks in less than 2 minutes & an appetizer order was placed. We went with the cheese curds because father in law Randy somehow HAD NEVER HAD CHEESE CURDS. They were well battered & served piping hot 10/10. Needless to say, he liked them. I ordered the shepherds pie, my wife ordered the house salad with salmon, & FIL Randy ordered the quarter fried chicken. Everything arrived quickly & was very good. I heard no complaints from my picky eaters as I was discovering all of the tasty goodness hidden in my shepherds pie. I'd highly recommend it as it's the best iteration of the classic dish I have ever had. $105 for three good meals, an appetizer, complimentary bread with homemade apple butter, a sweet tea, & a local beer. Returned to this historic restaurant gem after many years for a work Christmas luncheon. Every nook and cranny was beautifully decorated for the holidays in a classic retro style. The place was full of holiday revelers and despite a mix-up with our missing reservation, the hostess was able to accommodate our party of seven with only a slight wait. The menu was a bit heavy for lunch, but given it's the holidays and no one is counting calories, that was fine! Among the Golden Lamb Roast Turkey Dinner, Chateaubriand, and other large entrees was a series of burgers and sandwiches. I had the Classic Shepherd's Pie made with lamb, roasted mushrooms, pearl onions, goat cheese, herb potatoes, and a surprise ingredient: edamame. It was excellent and very filling. A large portion which was enough to take half home for another day. I had the Bourbon Bread Pudding for dessert with a local Maple syrup glaze and vanilla gelato on top. It was fantastic- not overly sweet and the perfect portion size after consuming a heavy lunch. Servers were quick, efficient, and always with a smile, which can be hard during this very busy one week before Christmas time. Wish I had time to visit the beautiful gift shop, but had to return to work. Make sure you incorporate some time to walk around the restaurant, read the history, and visit the gift shop. The Golden Scam: We signed up for the Ghost Dinner at The Golden Lamb with high expectations of suspense, danger and maybe even a little horror. Well... The only suspense was in wondering if/when our server would return for and with our drinks/food. The only danger was in falling asleep (2 folks I observed did so) as the "storyteller" READ a string of loosely related anecdotes (some of which he noted he had Googled that morning) recounting thumps, bumps, falling televisions and "sightings" of Eddy, Sally and somebody else. But they did deliver on horror. As the wait staff cleared the delicious half-chicken meal, they took the plates to a spot IN THE DINING ROOM, 5 feet from our table (#10) and in our line of sight to the "storyteller" where they then dutifully scraped the chicken carcasses, and any uneaten food into piles on a tray, covered it with a napkin and then carted it off to parts unknown. This ritual was performed in front of us on all plates from the dining room (probably 40 people): disgusting doesn't begin to cover it. As far as dining or entertainment experiences, this was a doozy. Golden Lamb, you should be ashamed of yourself for this travesty. read more

I came here with my grandparents during spring break. And right when I walked in, I felt like I stepped back in to the 1940s. The decor is so nice and it's quiet.(and there's a fireplace which is a big plus for me.) I tried the sticky burger and it completely blew my world away. And the french fries there were perfectly made. I want to know how they did it. And the staff there was so nice and polite. He said the Dijon crusted spare ribs were his favorite as well as the lasagne supplemented with salmon. I had the ribs, my wife had the chicken sandwich. They were both first rate. I do not like goat products but they had a whipped Chevre cheese was quite good, as was the Smoked Salmon Mousse. The carrot cake was a generous portion and very tasty. The unique atmosphere is what makes this place so special. We arrived very early for our reservation time, but were promptly seated in the Library. It's a lovely room with a view of the street. A table near the window would be perfect on a cold, snowy evening! Our dinner was good. Highlights included cheeseburgers, apple butter (served with rolls) and vanilla gelato (served with bread pudding). Our server was very friendly. We toured the Inn after dinner. There are bedrooms/suites on three upper floors. Any currently unoccupied rooms are roped off at the entrance, but you can take a peek inside. Framed photos and articles give the history of the Inn. There is a rather large gift shop with a separate outside entrance. The bar (Black Horse Tavern) is to the rear of the property. It's the same menu as the restaurant, but also appears to be very nice inside (and outside if the weather is nice). read more

Jacob, the assistant manager, make sure that you have an absolutely amazing time at the bar which is one of the oldest longest running bars in all of the nation. Let alone Ohio yeah sure many different presidents have stayed here but it's people like us that acquaint the golden Lamb over the holidays and have the experience of great spirits, great food, but more than anything.
