I was in the mood for some Tacos and didn't want to travel too far. I discovered La Costa Tacos y Mariscos by doing a search on Yelp. Yelp takes such good care of my hunger searches. LoL!! La Costa Tacos y Mariscos sits in the strip mall behind the BP. The location is in the back corner so make sure you're on the lookout for it as it's possible to pass it by accident... I walked in taking in the authentic cultural ambiance. The location is small, however, they made great use of the space. There are a few High Top 2 seaters towards the front and some booth style seating towards the back. As I explored the menu I was pleased to see the variety of options. There is something for any food needing mood. I decided on the #1 which is 2 Tacos with Rice and Beans. Please note, the beans are Refried Beans and not the usual Black beans I'm accustomed to being served as a side. I chose to go with the Steak Tacos and I am pleased with my decision. To note, the tacos only come with the corn shell. The steak was perfectly done and well seasoned. The tacos are meaty and very filling. The tacos alone get a 7/10 from me. They really carried the combo for me... The rice was rice. Nothing special about it, minimal seasoning but goes well mixed with the beans or added to the taco. The rice by itself gets a 3/10 from me. The refried beans were standard and used as an additive to my rice and filler to my tacos. LoL!! The salsa provided was mild and fresh. It had the authentic salsa flavoring and went great with everything on my plate. The service was pleasant and friendly, and the establishment was super clean. To my CA natives try this place out! I got an asada taco, and a fish taco. Both tacos were very tasty. The fish taco is a bit pricier, but is well worth it. They aren't stingy with the fish. I can't put my finger on what kind of fish they're using. It's no Cholita Linda (Oakland), but it gets the job done. I wasn't a huge fan of the slaw, because the flavor was very mild. No dry limes here! Thank goodness lol. Everything seemed fresh. When I went there was no line. The service was just fine, and the atmosphere was very clean. Before venturing to the Renaissance Festival down the street, our group stopped by here for a quick lunch on a whim. It's a quick counter order place in a gas station strip, but the tacos were authentic and everything was tasty. Tacos come on small corn tortillas and they offer a four taco plate or you can get a two taco combo with rice and beans. The beans were white beans versus the typical red or black, but they were super tasty. Tacos are simple with your choice of protein, and topped with salsa, onions, and cilantro. Simple, but very effective. They offer a few burrito sizes but the equivalent of a medium was huge!! Super loaded and could easily have been shared by two people. Their loaded nachos were also loaded with heaps of avocado, jalapeños, and other fresh toppings. I also appreciate their efforts to minimize their plastic use by using paper straws, however, they still had individually wrapped plastic utensils, disposable plates, and foam cups. Hopefully they take a few more steps and start using reusable plates, paper cups, and at least plastic utensils not wrapped in more plastic. read more

Man, I really wanted this place to be good. I was so excited to see that there was an authentic Mexican restaurant near my job. I tried to go on a Monday and failed to realize that they were closed. I returned on a Wednesday full of excitement to try the tacos. I saw the prices online and loved how affordable the tacos were. The inside of the establishment is super nice and clean. When you enter, you walk up to the counter to order and they'll call out your ticket number for you to pick up. I ordered two asada tacos and one al pastor taco to-go. The food didn't take long to be prepared, so I was in and out in fifteen minutes. When I got back to my job, the tacos were still warm. The tacos, however, seemed to lack flavor. They were just very lackluster; even with the salsa on top. I was truly disappointed. I am planning to return, however, since people have raved about this place. I really wanted to love this place since I'm a taco fanatic but LA Costa Tacos y Maricos missed the mark for me. I ordered a couple of the carne asada, pollo, y pescado tacos (steak, chicken, and fish). Unfortunately all of them were tasteless...every single one. They were traditionally prepared in a soft corn tortilla and topped with onion and cilantro. Pickled carrots and radishes were included also. Salsa and lime wedges were served on the side and were the only thing that gave the tacos any hint of flavor. I gave them an extra 2 stars because the tacos were piled high with meat and toppings and the customer service here was great. The restaurant serves tacos, quesadillas, burritos, tostadas, tortas, nachos, and menudo on the weekends. For any entree you have the choice of 7 different meats including al pastor (pork), pollo (chicken), lengua (beef tongue), cabeza (beef head), asada (steak), pescado (fish), and camaron (shrimp). Good little neighborhood Mexican spot. The tacos remind me of the authentic tacos of Cali. I came for the first time and had the chicken and carne asada regular tacos. One of the reviews said that the chicken has a cinnamon taste to it and I was confused about this but it actually does work lol. Definitely a unique flavor that I've never had before. As far as the carne asada taco...it's not like the carne asada I'm used to in Cali. It lacked flavor and the meat wasn't as tender as it should be. But I added some salt and some of the green sauce they give you and it was decent. I will definitely be back for the tacos. You can't beat $1.50 for a taco (even though they are small). If you live close by it is a good and cheap food option. I just wish they had more non pork options. I found this place via my college friend who posted a picture of tacos from there in their Instagram and right away I knew it was the authentic Mexican food I've been looking for. It's super affordable to. I ended up getting 8 tacos (2-carnitas, 2- asada, 2-fish, 2-chicken) and rice and beans and it cost me $24. Best $24 I've spent in a long time! The fish tacos were stuffed with fresh lightly battered fish and the sauce on them was amazing. Adding the squeeze of the added lime sent it over the top. It was legit a flavor explosion. You also can tell this place must be legit the moment you pull up because there's a constant line. It's so delicious and I will be a regular customer. I went here twice during my visit to Atlanta. The first time I went I ordered two steak tacos and a chicken taco. The steak tacos were phenomenal! I asked to have the sauce, lettuce, and onions separately so I could control the amount that went on each taco. Let me tell you, first bite I took and it was over!! However, the chicken taco did not taste like chicken tacos, I didn't really like it at all. The second time I went I forgot to ask for the sauce separately and it messed up the entire flow. SO I'm rolling through Fairburn and see the sign for La Costa. This surely can't be the now-closed establishment that used to be in Forrest Park? The same place that has, unequivocally, the best chicken tacos and burritos in all of metro Atlanta? Well after a couple of tacos I can confirm that yes, it is THAT La Costa of yore!! After the first bite I was rocking like Oprah's character from The Color Purple saying "Ms. Sophia home now!" (yeah, I'm a dude but that's how I felt) The chicken taste unlike anything I've had before. It has a cinnamon-y taste without being sweet. I know, it sounds off-putting but it is any but. You owe it to yourself to try at least a chicken taco. The asada is tender and flavorful. I have not try the pork, lengua and cabeza. They have a vast and deep variety of mariscos. Everything from fish tacos to ostiones. The location is in a gas station shopping center. If you're not looking for it it may be a little hard to find. The dinning room is clean and colorful with a variety of hot sauces on each table. Do you and I a favor: drop in and experience some of the most authentic Mexican food and keep this place open so I don't have to look for this place again. read more

There are people who believe that the *most* delicious food can only be found in hole-in-the-wall, gas station parking lots strip mall kind of dives, but I've eaten enough bad food in places like that to know better. However, in this case, those folks would feel justified. I have strong prejudices about most Mexican food in Georgia (I can't help it; I'm a native Californian and I take tacos pretty seriously), and this isn't exactly what I grew up with (or what you find on Buford Highway). I was mightily tempted by the fish burrito my friend raved about, but since we'd just had breadsticks at Oz - don't judge me! - I didn't think I'd have to for something that substantial. I made a good choice, but the noises she made were pretty convincing! The burrito was chock-full, the fish is fried tilapia, and we got some avocado on the side to make our orders more perfect! On the one hand, my shrimp taco had the radish that I love (kinda chunkily cut, but so right with the barely spicy, liberally sauced fried shrimp, cilantro, and...onion?). My absolute favorite thing about the taco was the corn tortillas, which weren't flavorful and delicious and, by the time I made it to the fourth bite, falling apart, exactly as you'd expect I also ordered a ceviche tostada (camaron y pulpo), built on a crispy shell that totally stood up to the very chunky, wonderfully acidic ceviche. Although everything tasted okay (I love how the hard shell stays crunchy even while the liquid seeps into it), the octopus - though very thinly cut - was quite chewy, even while the shrimp was limp. It didn't put me off, but I'd be much more likely to order one with beans next time - and there WILL be a next time, since one of my friends has moved out to Fairburn (so far away that I'll need a snack or two when I get there). I'll update my review, as I try more items (they've got a pretty sweet taco special I think I'll give into next time), but if you're in Fairburn and you want to eat way too much, this is definitely the place to go. read more

The cashier was extremely friendly (he speaks vauge English so its good to know basic Spanish ) . The resturant was very clean and covid compliant. Really disappointed because I was excited to try this place. Terrible customer service experience. Apparently they don't have tortilla chips but they sale nachos, doesn't make sense. After trying to understand and ask about the chips, the cashier literally ignored me while looking at me and speaking in Spanish to someone in the back and refused to step to the window to speak with me. Throughly impressed!!! So it's lunch time during school and I'd been dreaming about a nice Mexican food joint since yesterday! So I rolled up on this spot. The place is very easy to just not think of.. it's in a makeshift gas station plaza and it small.....BUT. THE. FOOD. IS. AMAZING !! I had the pork carnitas. I'm a B-I-G fan of La Costa Tacos y Mariscos. As one can *probably* tell from the name, it specializes in Mexican fare with a tasty lean toward seafood. On my latest visit, I opted kept it relatively simple...dos tacos...cabeza y pescado...beef "cheek" & fish tacos, which were served with a few chips a li'l salsa and miscellaneous garnish (lime slices, pickled jalapeño, carrot & fresh radish slices) served on fresh soft corn tortillas. The cabeza was mildly seasoned and served with onions and cilantro. The fish taco was topped with cabbage and salsa with an ample amount of fish. On previous visits I've had several of their offerings...burritos, ceviche and their fantastic seafood cocktail (like menudo, only served on the weekends, however). Additionally, they also have fresh oysters and do also offer beer. Fairburn isn't exactly a convenient trip for most of Atlanta/suburb residents, but the southsiders have a great little, currently undiscovered, gem.
