Ambiance was counter with food with table in the middle of a somewhat store. It was Mexican food. I was in the mood for it. I liked that the tacos were made to order. I noticed a senior enjoying her soup. I decided to give it a try. Wow!! The soup reminded me of grandma's cooking back in Brooklyn. I ate the whole thing. Don't know where to start, First it advertise itself as a Puerto Rican restaurant, but is run by Venezuelans. Also the food was terrible,bland and oily , the service very unpleasant. I was embarrassing to see the owner firing, a young female employee in front of all the guest. The ambience turned thick and uncomfortable.. There was three other tables that felt the same way li did. They could've took the matters into an office, but they did it right in front of all the guest.. This was a nice little gem. Most of the staff speaks Spanish. But the manager and a couple of waitress speak English. The buffet section has a nice variety. My family had the ribs in red sauce with the yellow rice. It d meat in it. They said it was delicious. But the food wasn't hot. I ordered of the menu, it took awhile and it came super hot. The flavors were delicious. The chicken wants very flavored but it was good. The beans were delicious x2! Muy bueno! Definitely recommend for the flavors. First, let me say that I rated this place with 1-star because of the bland, inauthentic food and the bleak attempt at friendliness, from the rude, MASKLESS staff that I dealt with today. I realize it's a latin/puerto-rican restaurant, and I look white not hispanic, but that is no excuse for not smiling, and then pretending to not understand a customer who speaks perfectly clear Spanish and English. Okay then, here we go..... When I walked in, the place was basically clean, aside from 1 table, right near the front door, that had garbage on it. There were no menus, or visible pricing to speak of, but there was a small placard on each table, with a QR code on it, to download their menu to your phone. I noticed a couple walking to a counter, where there was deli/buffet style foods to choose from. Again, no pricing anywhere, so you have to just order and pray that you get charged accordingly. The food at this counter looked mostly fresh and inviting, so I decided to give it a shot. Upon being approached by the 1st staff member, I was greeted with no smile or friendliness. When I asked if she spoke English, she shook her head yes, so I started to order. I asked the price of a dinner plate, to go. She just looked at me, confused. So I asked again in Spanish, which she then pointed to the table and the placard with the QR code on it. This staff member either didn't know (or just wouldn't tell me) what the foods in front of me were or what was in them. I decided to go with my gut, and just get a little of each of the things that looked familiar to me, to try. Keep in mind that the whole conversation I felt she was just being rude and refusing to speak to me because she never said a word. I ordered the Pernil (roast pork) with white rice. The amount of pork she put in the container, IN NO WAY, should have cost me more than MAYBE $1.00. It was 1 medium sized chunk and 1 small shredded chunk of pork, which amounted to LITERALLY 2 bites of pork. It wasn't even enough to make a pork SLIDER out of, had I tried to put it on a slider roll. I then asked for maduros, which she put 4 of in the container. I asked for a cup of beans, 2 beef empanadas and a cuban sandwich, which she indicated that I had to wait for them to cook by tapping her wrist and pointing at the kitchen. I also asked for a large cup of the multi-seafood salad, and she put it into a square, flip-top container. She then proceeded to the register, where she bagged the food and charged me just under $43.00. I was shocked, but figured that this food must be DYNAMITE for such an exorbitant price. I paid for my food, and went to sit to wait for the rest of my food. That's when I noticed that the salad had leaked out of the container and the liquid was all over the bag. I took it out, and went back to the counter, to ask for a different container.That's when I met staff member #2. She also offered no smile, but was helpful when I asked for a container with a lid, to put the salad into. She repackaged the salad, then left and returned with the rest of my order. Now, onto the food reviews: 1. The pork (both bites I got) was pretty bland, tender, but bland. I don't know what I was charged for those 2 little bites of pork, but I can guarantee that it was WAY TOO MUCH!!! 2. The maduros were... well, they were maduros! Kind of hard to mess them up, unless you burn them all to hell, which these weren't. They were the ONLY saving grace of this restaurant. 3. The beans were okay... they were laced very heavily with cilantro, so it was pretty much all you could taste. It's a good thing I'm a big fan of cilantro. And I found a piece of ham bone in them, yet there was NO ham in them at all. Very strange. 4. The beef empanadas were "mehh"..... very average. Nothing special or tasty about them. 5. The multi-seafood salad.... nothing to write home about. 6. The Cuban sandwich. Hmmm, where to start....... The pork was mushy and smelled like tuna instead of pork. The bread was DEFINITELY not cuban bread, but was a sweet sub roll and was heated (microwaved) then wrapped in foil. All in all, the only decent things I received in my bag was the white rice (Lol!) and the maduros. Seriously a waste of my time and money. If it hadn't been for the maduros, this place would have gotten ZERO stars. I feel seriously ripped off money wise and food wise. I'm not really a hard person to please, and can usually dig deep to find something nice to say in a review... but this place literally gave me nothing to work with... just a bad taste in my mouth, figuratively speaking since the food was basically tasteless. Please don't bother wasting your money here. To the management..... you might consider giving your staff better training on dealing with customers, proper food portioning and maybe even place a small pricing menu somewhere in the restaurant near that food counter, for those who just "might not" have a phone on them when they visit.
