We especially enjoyed seeing the different details and content represented in the 52 provincial alcoves. We crisscrossed the canal as we watched rental boats paddle by, horse drawn carriages picked up and dropped off in plaza and the flamenco dancers, musicians and bubble makers. The short walk up to the second floor also provided another perspective to take it all in. Definitely one of the must sees while visiting Seville.

We really enjoyed taking our time through the gardens after seeing the palace rooms. It's very popular, so booking tickets ahead is a good idea, but it's absolutely worth visiting if you're in Sevilla.

For 15.5€ each we saw an underwatered garden with some construction going on and none of the water fountains were running. The only enchanting thing we saw were peacocks and a family of ducks taking a water bath and stagnant water. The quintessential patio de las doncellas was nice but doesnt make up for the entry fee. If you've booked tickets or are a history buff sure it might be okay but don't waste your time if you need to line up at 730am for day of use tickets. There are better places to see in Seville that are free.

The Giralda is the bell tower of Seville Cathedral. It was built as the minaret for the Great Mosque of Seville in al-Andalus, during the reign of the Almohad dynasty, with a Renaissance-style belfry added by the Catholics after the expulsion of the Muslims from the area. The Cathedral, including the Giralda, was registered in 1987 as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, along with the Alcázar and the General Archive of the Indies. It remains one of the most important symbols of the city, as it has been since the Middle Ages. The tower is one of the most famous monuments of Moorish architecture in Spain and one of the most refined examples of Almohad architecture. There's a weather vane all the way on the top that moves only with very heavy winds....LOL.... Beautiful at night...all lit up....

Highly recommend climbing to the top to get the most amazing 360 view of Seville. They don't have stairs - instead it's a paved incline that have 35 ramps and then a few stairs at the top ... each floor is marked so you can see your progress. It's not an easy climb - the windows along the way is a great place to catch your breath :) I read that the ramps were built to allow the Sultan to ascend mounted on horseback to see the beautiful view. Your entrance fee to the Seville Cathedral includes the bell tower. Oh, and be warned when the bell towers ring, they are super loud - like I thought I might have gone deaf, lol. I visited during the winter so it was cool inside but during the summer, I heard it gets hot & stuffy ... one of the reviews recommended visiting first thing in the morning.

* * * WORLD HERITAGE SITE * * *…read more Plaza del Triunfo is the common space between 3 buildings: the Real Alcázar, the Seville Cathedral, and the General Archive of the Indies. Everywhere you turn, there is a gorgeous picture to take! Plaza del Triunfo is really close to Plaza de la Virgen de Los Reyes, basically, one is on either corner of the Cathedral de Sevilla. Horse-drawn carriage tours often pass right through this square, where vehicular traffic is not allowed. Many carriage drivers actually queue here, to look for passengers who want to start their ride. There is a tram station, "Archivo de Indias" just to the west, on the other side of the the General Archive of the Indies building. Lines for the Real Alcázar back way up into this square, and this happens daily, almost as soon as they open, no matter what time of year it is (we were there in the off-season and still a huge line as soon as they opened). At night, the historic buildings along Plaza del Triunfo are all lit up, looking beautiful, and this is a popular place for visitors, late into the night. There are some benches, and many people sit on the stone steps or low walls surrounding the historic sites. There is constant action, all day and night, tons of tourist groups, and occasionally some live performances, and also politicking or begging. This square was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987.

The 20 minute walk from our hotel Hospes Las Casas del Rey de Baez's to Plaza del Triunfo was interesting traversing the zigzagging one way alleys. Even though equipped with offline google map and printed direction it was still a challenge because street signs are not always obvious. It's a good experience however watching the city wake up, small school children being escorted to schools, and crews cleaning streets. The Trifuno square sits right next to both the Alcázar and the Cathedral. It's the city center. Beautiful and quiet in this morning hour. Several hours later it would become a beehive of activities. We were glad to have it all to our selves (almost) for a previous few moments.
