This place has the best Mexican food I've eaten east of Van Horn. Really reminds me of El Paso and what I'm missing. The Chile relleno was made from Anaheim long green Chile, not the poblanos you get in San Antonio.The salsa was a tomato-based Serano pepper salsa and it was great. 6pm Monday. Cowboys/Bucs are playing in a bit. One TV. Crowd is clearing out. Waitress promptly seated me and took my drink order. Ordered Chicken Enchiladas, rice and beans (only refried). I actually read most of the reviews before writing my own. Most of them are laughable, and surprisingly a high percentage of California opinions. Vegans keep driving!! Duh! Well, I have my own story about this small town restaurant. Forever ago, my family dined here a few times a year. Venturing in while visiting a family friend who lived in Junction; sometimes on the way out the Big Bend area for summer vacations. I do remember sadly getting some sort of food poisoning and throwing up in our RV somewhere around the mid 80's. However, the memory of the same waiter spilling food on my father on three separate visits I will never forget. It was mind boggling. As soon as this poor fella saw my dad, we knew something was gonna spill. Tea, skillet of fajitas on my dad's boots, enchiladas in the lap...your shocked we ever came back. My dad passed in 2012. Could the curse be over? Does that guy even work there anymore? Mom and I were planning to take Rooster for his first visit to Big Bend late in the summer last year. First stop was Junction for an overnight stay. We were brave and gave La Familia a shot at redemption after all these years. Same owner, and that server still works there! He was off the evening we dined. Mom and I split some combination fajita nachos with requested grilled onions. Sour cream in a packet? Haven't seen that in awhile. A few beers for the adults and some chicken tenders and fries for the boy. Strange and totally unexpected, first time I had to use the "chip" to pay in middle of nowhere Junction, Texas. Found the food to be very tasty and well seasoned. I love spicy salsa and the table salsa does have good flavor and a little heat. The waitress was slammed busy and she was the only one working. While Governor Greg Abbott has required all restaurant employees in Texas to wear masks and ensure customers are seated 6 feet apart, these guidelines are not being followed at this restaurant. Our waitress was not wearing a mask as she spoke with us and handled the food. First off, we are in a pandemic and only one employee has a mask on; the hostess. Our waitress had no mask on. However, she was very attentive to our needs. She did her best to serve all that were in the dining room; about 25 people. Our food was tasty but there was a different taste to the beef in the enchiladas and the tacos. The chicken flautas were a little dry and greasy. The beer was cold and good. The salsa was spicy and good. I know that it is a local fave, but I consider it average. read more

Nice place for Mexican food. Made a lunch stop while traveling. The service was excellent. I had the chicken taco salad, my husband had the chalupas. We enjoyed them both. The first thing on their Info Page says Vegan Options. Don't bother. The only thing vegan was the guacamole. Their beans have lard in them and their rice is made with chicken stock. It took a very long time to get our food, but they were pretty busy. It was Sunday after church. We had guacamole chalupas. Not very filling. read more

After a long weekend of camping at our friend's property along the Llano River, we were starving for some real food! We made it into Junction, and found La Familia on Yelp. Loved it! Reminds me of the mom and pop restaurants I grew up going to back home. It was a Sunday, just after the church crowds left, so we didn't have a wait. The waitress was very nice, and took our order quickly. I LOVED the chips! Homemade, nice and thick! And the salsa had a good kick to it. Stopped in here after a long day of traveling. Service was ok. Our guacamole appetizer was literally 2 spoonfuls. While it was busy in the restaurant they seemed to be understaffed with our waitress working one half the place. We popped in on our way to San Antonio, all the other good yelp reviews is what helped us make our decision. It is a quaint little stop with warm welcoming and fast service. I ordered the fajita chicken quesadillas and my husband got the chimichanga. We both agreed our entrees were delicious! The chips were great and the salsa was amazing! Definitely had a kick to it but I'm all about that! And if you're anything like me and want super refreshing water... they had that too! Definitely worth the stop! We stopped in junction on our way back north and were looking for some good Mexican food.we where directed to La Familia by our GPS. This is a small little restaurant. My wife had the cheese enchilada, crunchy beef taco and soft (corn tortilla) chicken taco. I had the beef crunchy taco and the cheese enchilada. We also had chips and salsa and flan for dessert. This was really good authentic mexican food. the salsa was on the hot side, but man was it tasty. My wife especially appreciated the soft taco in a corn tortilla. Great service and a nice clean restaurant. we can definitely recommend this place. read more

Very fresh food. Loved flavorful minced beef taco (while same beef in salad was not as good for some reason). Generous cheese coating on entrees. Guacamole was a loser with overly obvious mayonnaise. For your options in Junction, I like this place. Simple, friendly, decent food, local style. I had beans and guacamole. Food was okay overall. I had the enchiladas - the sauce was pretty bland. I do much better at home. My wife had the Chilis Rellenos - she said it was okay, she has had much worse. the owner should be embarrassed to serve tacos on cheap, boxed taco shells along with the chalupas. The worst tacos I have ever had! A little hamburger meat with some melted cheese on it.. Lots of lettuce on the side with a fat slice of tomato. The chalupa was guacamole and lettuce only when it was suppose to be meat. The rice lumped up like it had been cold and put in the microwave to be heated up. Chips and orchata was great. The salsa tasted like tomato paste with hot spices in it. If I could give this restaraunt 0 stars I would. It took 45 minutes from the moment we stepped in to the moment we paid to order, receive, eat and pay for one meal of fajitas. There were about 6 other groups there at the same time. There was also a group of 4 that came in approximately 10 minutes after us. Yet they revived their meal and checked out before us. What's terrible though is the owner tried to make multiple excuses as to why it too so long. Ridiculous. Poor, poor experience. read more

I drove through junction city and was wanting a burger. They seem to be one of the only restaurants open. The owner was friendly and very prompt with the burgers and fries. When I hit the road I was surprised to find some pretty good salsa and pico de gallo with chips hiding in the bad for free. I can hear it now about stopping into a mexican restaurant and ordering a burger. I imagine if there burgers, salsa, and pico de gallo is good then there regular food should be worth a try. read more

Greeted by a very sweet older lady. Seated by a Not So Friendly young lady. When I asked what beers they served she just flipped the menu over, never speaking. I ordered a beer, it was brought out by another lady! Chips and salsa were finally brought out. Chips weren't fresh and both salsas were extremely spicy, so much so, that they weren't enjoyable. Order was taken. When delivered. COLD/SOGGY chalupa shell. Ordered the supreme chalupa. NOTHING supreme about it!
