This is the real deal and in Clinton! We went in for lunch and had an amazing meal! Authentic Mexican and the service was outstanding. This is by far the best Mexican food I've had in town and the owner Cesar could not have been nicer or more welcoming. The staff was friendly and welcoming and service was fast and on point. We ordered way too much food but it was all fresh and delicious. The guacamole was especially delicious with garlic, tomato and was perfectly blended into a creamy dip with some cilantro. My husband ordered the molcajete which was enough for 2-3 people, while I got the delicious birria tacos. We definitely had tons of leftovers! The refried beans were creamy and delicious and the rice was good as well. We will be back! read more

The people at La Feria were wonderful - very friendly and personable. I also appreciated tables being spread out a bit as we continue through a pandemic. However, I was disappointed in the food. The nachos were okay as I ended up picking around the meat, but the meat itself was fairly off-putting. The tacos my husband ordered ended up being huge, which was unexpected since the server explained to us they would be street taco sized (small). As a result, he ordered way too many. Unfortunately, the flavors were so lacking and unappetizing that it was even hard to eat as much as we did (I tried helping). Where the steak was a bit plain in flavor, the pork had plenty of flavor, but just not in a way that we anticipate for that kind of taco. read more

DEFF NOT 2-3 STARS. No clue why they have such a bad review, maybe things have gotten better or people don't know what to order or what since this is a Mexican restaurant catered to the demographic and not Tex Mex like Chillis with queso & sour cream that pretty much covers everything else. Was not expecting much from a MX restaurant in a small town in Iowa but was definitely wrong especially about their pastor tacos. Their pastors were legit and comparable to the small no frills Mexican owned restaurants and trucks Great combos deals with surprisingly great portions especially for the price. Had the enchilada, burrito, chalupa combo and couldn't finish it unless I wanted to be stuffed. But FYI the combos are more American Mexican geared towards the general demographic with guac sour cream and shreaded cheese on some items similar to the fake Chinese food you see everywhere. FYI: Their chlupas are more authentic, unlike taco bells fried flatbreads, they are deep fried corn. Even thought was a tostada at first until I was able to folded it up and confirmed by waiter. Their pastor tacos were actually really good, properly seasoned, great flavor & succulent such as they should be. They tasted like any any other authentic Mexian no frills restaurant or food truck would serve (which usually have the best tacos). Best of all they actually had Yutcan habanero hot sauce, which is near impossible to find habanero or anything spicy in Iowa. Would definitely visit again. Didn't have any drinks so cant comment but chips were free for second our second serving so prior yelp post was inaccurate. read more

Margaritas are good! Thats about it. Beans had so much salt i couldnt eat them. Rice was hard. Beef burrito was hamburger with absolutely no seasoning. Same with my husbands tacos meat had no flavor. Be prepared to pay extra for EVERYTHING! We asked for more chips and salsa at our table of 6 and got charged for them. When it came time to check out, owner was rude when explaining the 4% up charge if you use debit card. He went on and on about how expensive everything is for him and how he couldn't hire staff. Being that it's clinton, I don't set the bar very high. It's the farthest from authentic Mexican that one can get other than going to Taco Bell or Taco John's. However, what they do make, they make ok. I don't know what kind of cheese they use in the dishes, but it's definitely not queso fresco, but maybe it's not readily available locally. My favorite thing on the menu is the potato filling for the enchiladas (the sauce is decent, but doesn't taste homemade). The people working the register are always very friendly. For these reasons I've given it the 3 star rating. I learned long ago to avoid the margaritas since the house on the rocks is the powdery, syrupy kind. I stick to Negro Modelo or Corona. Also, service tends to be weak. I don't think I've ever been asked how my food is and I generally have to flag down our server to get another beer or more chips. read more

After eating here again for the first time in a long time, I've decided to lower my previous rating from 4 stars down to 3. I finally ordered something other than the chicken fajitas and I was pretty disappointed. It was some sort of vegetarian combo and I also had a hard shelled beef taco. The entire combo was bland, and the taco was so greasy that it fell apart as soon as i picked it up. But that's not even why I've lowered my rating, the real reason is that they've jacked up the prices!! The food that was formerly 4 stars was partly that way because the prices were decent. Clinton is pretty much a restaurant wasteland. I've eaten here twice. The first time good, the second time not as good. It might depend on what you order, but on my second visit I was filled but not ecstatic. My wife liked the chimichanga but my tacos were a bit on the gringo side. I've traveled and lived all over the US so I'm kind of tainted on Mexican and Asian food. I thought since this place is run by Hispanics that it would be on par with what I get from the food truck man in front of my local junk yard, he's the man in my MD neighborhood, but I was a little saddened with my taco order. The meat was dry, hard, and not seasoned very well. The sides were acceptable, but I don't go to Mexican restaurants for beans and rice. If the owner is reading this, you would do better by sticking to street tacos and hiring an older Mexican woman who knows what she's doing when it comes to Mexican street food. Head, barbacoa, tongue, steak, chicken, el pastor, and chorizo street tacos should be your staple. A little cilantro, some onions, and good sauce on the side is all you need. That and some homemade tamales, and you'd be pulling them in no problem. Also, since Clinton rolls up the sidewalks after 9, think about using 1/2 of that old bowling alley as a club. It is always interesting to sample other Mexican cooking. Everything I had pretty much tasted as I expected, except the chili relleno. I used to enjoy going with my family to La Feria about once a month or so. The food is always okay but the prices vary greatly from each visit to the next, although I generally get the exact same thing every time. When I say okay, I mean okay. Nothing spectacular. I have gotten cold food a couple times. Frequently do not get what I order. Difficult to get the staff to bring drink refills. I always order from the vegetarian menu, which I appreciate being offered. It's rare to find vegetarian choices at locally-owned places. This being said, I have recently decided not to go to La Feria anymore. I recently ordered with a group of co-workers for our dinner (I work in health care) and the entire experience was a disaster. Only one out of the seven people who ordered got what they ordered. My vegetarian meal was instead something filled with some kind of beef. The carry-out containers consisted of tin plates with paper tops and they were all stacked one on top of the other and collapsed onto each other. It was a disgusting mess. When I called to inquire what happened to my vegetarian meal, I received the worst customer service imaginable. I was called a liar, told it was "too bad", not offered an apology, and told I could not have a refund. I was offered a "free" meal the next time I went there. Newsflash - I already paid for a meal and now I don't have one. How's my next meal free??? I told the person I was talking to, who happened to be the owner of the restaurant, that I would never set foot in there again after the service I was getting and he said "I don't care if you ever come back." I have told everyone I know about the disappointing service I have had. I was as kind as possible for someone who was being told they were stuck with a meal they could not eat and were not going to get a refund. I sent one of the employees back with almost our entire incorrect order to be replaced and asked that I get a refund. The owner told the girl that I was "a very mean person" and he hoped I never came back there. Ridiculous. I was extremely nice during the very frustrating phone call but I was not going to pay for a meal I could not eat and did not order! If the owner ever got over his sense of entitlement, they got a regulated pricing system, and the quality of the food improved a bit, I would consider going back. But for now, I'll stick to cooking Mexican food at home. read more

Went for dinner and drinks on a few separate occasions, most times service was bad. My friend and I ordered two different flavored margaritas, when we got them they were the same flavor, which was one neither of us ordered. Tried to get the margaritas we actually wanted, waiter walked away and didn't come back. Tried to get the waiter that brought us our food to fix it, still never got what we ordered. We said something about it when we went up to pay, cashier did not seem surprised, and did not care at all. They are also made with very cheap margarita mix. On another occasion I got a dirty water cup with lipstick on the rim. extremely bland food every time I have gone there. There are plenty of people in town that rave about this place but each time I have gone have been extremely disappointed. I personally don't see how they get such great reviews. A group of three of us went in at 7:40 pm (they close at 8), and were told to leave since they close soon and are "busy". Coming from a background in organizational management, customers should be able to get service up until the minute of closing and not turned away because they are too worried about getting out of there for the night. My family and I usually make it a point to come to La Feria at least once if not twice a week usually on family night and we always get the best service from the staff, always friendly and ask about how the kids are doing in sports and little things like that here and there. Take out quality is horrible. The last time that we tried to do take out they seemed to have changed something where it was better because they separated everything so the vegetables that were supposed to be cold weren't hot and all the other stuff wasn't super soggy. When I called to try and order it again I asked if they had started doing that on a regular basis and was informed that they weren't allowed to do that and I couldn't pay extra to have it done. I eat at La Feria once or twice a month. I enjoy their food but their service leaves something to be desired... Every time I go there the prices are different, even if it's the owner who rings me up each time. I get the same thing every time and one week it will be $12 and next week $14 then next $16, etc. I never say anything about it but it makes me want to go there less when I know the prices are never what are on the menu. Get this fixed, get an actual register that has prices programmed in it, and my review would be a 4 star; but I don't like going to a place expecting to spend $12 and ending up spending $16. read more
