It's hard to spot if you don't look for signs but it's well worth it. This isn't your typical bar. This is a friendly bar where mostly older and calmer people go to. This isn't Annie's or Pioneer where you always see a dumb kid from Abbott puke on a table or a girl, slutty girls dancing then trying to hook up with the next thing to them regardless of gender (not due to bisexuality but due to the % of alcohol in their blood), etc. As of mid-2014, this bar is now my go-to bar. I love it there. The food is very cheap and the beer is even cheaper. Sadly it still looks like a bingo bar from the 80's. There are no pool tables just slot machines and a TON of huge TVs EVERYWHERE making it a decent sports bar. Price: 6/5, cheapest beer I've seen in any bar in the West Island as a non-special event thing: 20.88$/4L pitcher after 9pm on weekends every week. Service: 6/5, I love the crew there. They're nice, polite but homey and friendly. The Bartender Alex is my new Bff. Set-up: 3/5 Pretty crappy to be honest. Still looks like a bingo bar and no pool tables. Only 1 bar available but the place is relatively small. Gave it extra points for the back parking. Food: 3.5/5, decent for the price. Nothing to die for but it's good food. The staff makes up for anything though. The manager is ultra-super-friendly, the bartender and waitresses are GENUINELY friendly, none of that "Fake Smile for a tip" stuff. Free WiFi (just ask for the password, it doesn't change), you can bring food from Dominos/Couche-tard/Tim Horton's. Be sure to ask the manager first if you're going to bring in Pizza since they do their own pizza). I don't think he'll truly mind due to his friendliness but I'd consider it proper conduct. Saturday evenings can get a little full so be careful about your timing. Otherwise it's pretty nice and calm.

We started with oysters from PEI and New Brunswick. Loved that they let you choose the units so we only ordered 4 (2 each). We also had as appetizer their foie gras parfait and tomatoes from our garden. Both we wonderful choices. The tomatoes were perfect for the season with a beautiful balance of tomatoes, stracciatella and focaccia. Foie is a classic and loved the grilled bread and pickled vegetables to accompany it. Our entrees were the lamb rump, braised shoulder and butcher cut steak and frites which was the hangar steak. The lamb was delicious and very hearty in a good way. The steak was perfectly prepared and the frites stayed warm the entire meal with their presentation. We ended with their house fav passion fruit pavlova. Light and airy texture with lovely flavor. Nice way to compete the meal!

Score! I'm all about trying local products while traveling, so I was happy to find that many restaurants I came across in Canada double as microbreweries. I think Projet Pilote was one of my favorites for its range and the establishment's ambiance. Service was quick and attentive. Thanks! Would like to stop by again and perhaps try the food next time.

Project Pilote is a fabulous green bar that functions as a mini brewery/distillery that also serves food during the kitchen's open hours. We had a variety of drinks to choose from and the staff there were very accommodating and helpful in picking out the best drafts. The food was excellent. We enjoyed the steak frites, duck confit, fish soup, and the complimentary cornichons, which were a lovely touch. They have several of them in this place and I have found one of my favourite in Quebec: The Tribale IPA. It has a nice bracing bitterness, a well balanced hoppy flavor, strong but not overpowering, not malty, and with a nice subtle grapefruit taste that is what I usually look in an IPA. They also sell it in a can in their store, so I bought 4 cans and that same night had it taste to another IPA hunter and was very happy with the new discovery.

The beer selection is long and solid, many IPAs for those who like them and great visiting beers. One may find many of the good beers in the adjacent store and bring home. There are some food options and games at the back of the pub, basically enough options to keep you around longer. For me Ma Brasserie is really off the beaten path, but I'm willing to take the road trip as parking around is hugely easy and available. The brewery offers brewing classes in cooperation with Institut Brassicole du Quebec that I may try as something new to learn in 2019!
