    Pozole!
    Tania L.

These tacos from a near hole-in-the-wall joint were really good - we were definitely pleasantly surprised. Overall, I found the flavours to be really bright and tasty, but some of the tacos start tasting a little similar. Unfortunately, my mind instantly went to Campechano in downtown Toronto (one of my favourite taco spots), so I kept making comparisons! The biggest difference I noticed was the taco shell - the one at Campechano is house-made with masa flour (vs. the presumably corn flour here) - and is less crumbly and gritty. My boyfriend and I ordered six tacos to start (for $28), then added another four... we also got a side soup. The pozole was really bright and flavourful, with rich, stewed chunks of pork. It came with shreds of lettuce, some radishes, and lime to squeeze in. Here is my review, with tacos listed from most to least favourite: 1. Birria Tacos (Lamb) - This taco wasn't part of the set of six; we had to order a la carte. The sauce was very flavourful but my main complaint is that I wish there were more sauce! It came with a side of guac to add on. 2. Chorizo beef (x2) - This taco was pure sausage-y meat, but was quite delicious. Don't get it if you don't like meat!! 3. Carnitas (x2) - The braised, shredded pork was so porky! It retained its tenderness / softness quite well, and kept leaking out fatty juices as we bit into it. 4. Pastor (x2) - The diced pineapple added bright, fruity highlights to the pork, but also simultaneously overwhelmed the taste. 5. Pollo con mole Negro - Very interesting negro sauce; we could actually taste the cocoa in it! Wasn't my favourite though... 6. Chicarron en Salsa Verde - Also wasn't my favourite... flavours were good but the chicarron was literal pork fat. I understand that it's pork belly, but wished for a slightly leaner version! 7. Nopales - I was expecting some toppings on this, as I've had versions with queso oaxaca, etc. Instead, it came bare and the cactus was pickled... not the best version I've had and I was a little disappointed.

Have enjoyed dinner & lunch from here over the last couple days. Delicious. Definitely worth checking out.

I honestly am so happy I've found this place. Me and my partner can't get enough!! The food is so authentic and delicious. Service is good and very kind. The atmosphere is cute and cozy with fun decoration that makes me feel I'm back in Oaxaca.

I love Latin American food and have been wanting to try La Fiesta Latina for a while now. My husband and I finally got around to it. Our new Covid-19 Pandemic activity is to get takeout at a place we haven't tried before and then bring it to a park we haven't been to before and have a picnic. That weekend our takeout was La Fiesta Latina and our park was Vincent Massey Park. I love their $10 deals. I got the 3 tacos deal and my husband got the 2 empanadas deal. For my tacos I got Conchinita Pibil, Pastor, and Chicken Mole. For the empanadas, my husband got Chorizo and Tinga. My tacos were delicious! The Mole Chicken one was a bit spicy and full of flavour. I could definitely taste the chocolate and nuts in it. The Pastor taco was also excellent. The pork cubes were super tender and the pineapple was fresh pineapple, none of that canned stuff, lol. The Conchinita Pibil was a bit oily and greasy, and while it was tasty, it was my least favourite. Still, overall I enjoyed my tacos very much. My husband enjoyed his empanadas, but said next time he will get the tacos, lol. (I gave him a bite of each of my tacos, just so you know the context of his statement.) Service was friendly and welcoming. We waited about 15-20 minutes for our food. Due to the current Covid-19 Pandemic, they only have outdoor dining (their indoor space is too small and would make physical distancing a challenge). They have a table for 4 in front of the restaurant, and a few tables for 2 to the side of their restaurant. I noticed that most people were getting takeout. This place is legit. No Tex-Mex here. It's authentic. They have Mexican, Venezuelan and Colombian food. I want to try the arepas! And the burritos! And more tacos! Haha. The restaurant is at the eastern edge of Chinatown. Street parking only.

The staff is very nice, but the food is pretty bad. I ordered 3 things and had a hard time eating any of it.

It did not disappoint. I had the tuna tartare, crispy fish, and grilled chicken taco. Surprisingly, the tuna tartare (the most expensive one) was my least favourite; something about it tasted too earthy and I couldn't taste the tuna that much as the other flavours were overpowering. The crispy fish is a must-try, and the grilled chicken is a pleasant surprise - you don't expect it to blow you away, but somehow it does. I also had a bite of the steak taco which was delicious.

On a Sunday night, it was not super busy but there were enough people that it didn't feel empty inside. A bit pricy but we also got drinks, and most trendy Mexican restaurants are like this these days. To start, I shared guac & chips - no complaints, we enjoyed and it was very fresh. The added tomatoes were nice. I ordered 3 tacos - the beef barbacoa was fine but the portion of dipping jus was tiny for 3 beef tacos. The best taco for me was the tuna tartare crispy taco. Loved the flavours and the fish was just delicious! My friends had the chicken tacos and said they were spicy but they liked them a lot. However, I did not enjoy the ox tongue taco and didn't finish it. I ordered it because all the reviews about it were so positive, but I didn't like how they just put two huge pieces of meat in a taco. It tasted very gamey and I didn't like the spongy texture either. The piña colada cocktail was yummy - I could taste fresh pineapple and it was very creamy.

However, I ate at countless Tex-Mex places prior to that experience and also since that time and it never happened again. So I decided to live a life of danger and go back to a Burrito Gringo without an Epi Pen, haha! I am happy to report that I had 3 tacos and no reactions :) I like how you can choose between hard and soft tacos, and with soft tacos you can choose between corn or wheat. I got 3 soft corn tacos ($10.75). You can get different meats on each taco, so I got chicken, steak, and pulled beef. At most places the taco toppings are just the protein, salsa, cheese, lettuce and sour cream, but here I was also able to add rice, beans, and sauteed vegetables, hurray! There was just 1 type of rice (lime rice), and sauteed vegetables (onions and peppers), but there were 3 types of beans: refried, black, and pinto. I got the pinto beans. I loved how the tacos were full of toppings. They were super messy to eat as a result, but I didn't mind, I just used a fork. The tacos tasted ok. I didn't get any real strong flavours, it's like the flavours were muted. The food wasn't bland as they used adequate salt, it just lacked oomph in the flavour department. Staff were nice and service was quick. This location is in a strip mall. Same strip mall as Metro and next to Alterna Bank. Lots of free parking.

And lemme tell you, they did not hold back on the grasshoppers. I thought that they would sort of be sprinkled on top or something, but nope, they really went for it! It honestly tasted more roasted than anything, and they were whole, so they were crunchy, but other than that, the lime plus the medium and extra spicy hot sauces I got on the side added the most flavour. The hot sauces were vinegar-based, not burn your mouth kind of hot, and had good flavour. The extra spicy was spicy but not overly so. I also tried the carnitas taco and it was delicious. The pork was very tender and juicy. It came with radish, guacamole, fresh salsa verde, and it was supposed to also have homemade pickled onions, but I didn't see or taste any. I believe they make their tortillas in-house, so that added to the flavour of the tacos for sure. I was excited about the tamales (one order comes with two). Every time I order tamales they sort of just come on their own, wrapped. These came served in the banana leaf, but unwrapped and topped with sour cream, queso fresco, and cilantro. They were vegetarian, stuffed with chipil, which I've never had before. It's a leafy green vegetable and Google says it's like a cross between watercress and spinach, and I'd say that's pretty accurate. To my surprise, there was also a big piece of cheese in the middle (lengthwise). As a big cheese lover, I approve haha! The tamales were so, so good. Nice change from what I normally have. My husband had the nachos with chicken - protein was an extra $6.50 but guac (two scoops!) was included. They were also topped with beans, cheese, pico de Gallo, pickled jalapeños, and sour cream. They were the most expensive item (already $20 without the chicken), but they were tasty. My husband's not into guac, so I ate both scoops and I can't complain lol. He got the Mexican Coca-Cola and I got the cafe de olla (Mexican coffee). The Coke is different because it's made with cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup and it comes in a bottle. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I did enjoy this one because of the different spices in it. I also wanted to try the Mexican hot chocolate but they ran out. Next time!
