I have been wanting to try La Fiesta for a very long time. One time I even showed up here to meet someone, but realized I was at the wrong restaurant. Today I decided that I would finally give it a try and have mixed feelings. The location itself is unique. The parking lot is very small and difficult to navigate when the restaurant is full. Inside the decor is old and slightly run down. While these things may sound bad, I actually liked them both as they lent a neighborhood restaurant feel to the place. The service was very friendly. Our waitress (Maria) was one of the nicest servers I have ever had. She has mastered the art of being super friendly without seeming disingenuous. The food was good, but did not blow me away. The meal started with chips, salsa and refried beans. The refried beans were a very nice touch and I think more Mexican food restaurants need to embrace this trend. The salsa was very good, but came in a squeeze bottle with no bowl. Adding it from the bottle to chips made for a wet, salsa soaked table. For my entree I ordered the chicken enchiladas. It was a steal at around $6.50. The plate came with three large enchiladas and a salad. The enchiladas weren't bad, but seemed rather ordinary. I realize this isn't a fancy place, but I had expected more flavor. In summary, This is a very casual, good Mexican restaurant. I am sure I will be back to try more items, but for now, it is a solid three stars. read more

Zero stars! !! This was the worst $35 I've ever spent in my life. They are so americanized, they don't even have cilantro in the restaurant! Pico? No, tomato and onion. $35 for lunch for 2 with water. 3 tacos and a chicken fajita plate. The sign outside suggests they are proud of their fajitas. Absolutely disgusting. Zero, I said zero spice, seasoning, or herbs. Chicken chunks fried in a bed of oil. My tostada was missing beans. The place looks dirty, dust balls hanging from ceiling. Never again. read more

I'm surprised this restaurant has such low reviews. In my opinion, this is the best Mexican food on the West Bank. Yes, many of the dishes are Americanized - but most Mexican restaurants in general are Americanized. The food here is simple yet good. I like the cozy atmosphere. Monday through Friday they have a $7.99 lunch special that you can't beat. I will say that I do not particularly care for their guacamole; it's too creamy. The service is always impeccable - friendly and attentive! I like the margaritas but if you are searching for something very boozy then go elsewhere. I like the fact that they are a little weak because it allows me to enjoy one at lunch without getting sleepy. I find it hard to believe I didnt write a review for this place. I love it dearly. It is a non assuming looking food heaven. I really love mexican food and cozy nook places to eat in and this is both. My wife and Istumbled across it 10 years ago in almost a dare because we both have always seen this place but never had the nerve to walk into it since it was so small and had blacked out windows. Huge mistake ...we missed out on some serious muching over them scared years. Nothing to be frightened about other than busting your pants when you leave. This is great stuff. The staff are really friendly too and are fantastic with kids. If she is working there, Maria is the one to have. She is awesome and like family. Makes the experience so warm and inviting. This is not Taco Bell type mexican food, pretty real if you ask me. Chorizo and eggs...mmm chili rennenos...what?!?! Mmmm And salsa in a squeeze bottle...genius. Watch out though, its thick and can clog in the tip and you will get a BIG squirt hehehe Chimichangas is of the shredded beef type, a must! The tacos, its the hard shell type, greasy as all get out and super tasty!! Tamales...gotta try them. This is the closest to Texas Mexican food i have found and I'm in love. I could eat here every day and never get tired. It is so good but if you are used to white cheese and the canned red enchilada sauce served at other restaurants then you might be disappointed. This is the real deal. I wish i could give it 10 stars ***update*** went back today and i got pics. I had the Corpus Christi and my fiancée had the chicken fajita nachos. Still the best Mexican restaurant around. *Sorry this is so long, bit it's necessary* I REALLY wanted a 4-5 star 400th review...but you get what you get, I guess. This restaurant came recommended by someone who (to be known throughout this review as "onmyshitlist or OMSL") get's take-out tamales there. At 8 bucks a dozen it should be a bargain; they aren't, but we'll get to that later. We had to make another Home Depot run tonight and since OMSL gave it such a ringing endorsement, we decided to stop in for dinner. I was looking to try a new, great place for my 400th review. Sadly, this was NOT a good restaurant. As John pointed out, the inside is dated. We walked in, sat down and checked the menu. We talked about what to get etc...5 minutes later, I look toward the waitress station and the waitress yells "I'm coming!'. Eventually, she did come over. She plopped down a plate of chips, a little container of mostly cold refried beans with some shredded cheese unmelted on top and a squeeze bottle full of watery and odd tasting salsa and took our drink order. We ordered the "steal of a deal" tamales. Bland, luke warm, dry and crumbly. At $8 ducks a dozen, I feel they over charged by $6. They were just blah as heck. Even this white boy makes better tamales (seriously, I do. Want to buy a dozen for 10 bucks?). I asked the waitress if she could bring me some hot sauce. She said they didn't HAVE any hot sauce...you know, because Mexican restaurants don't do spicy or hot. I didn't even need it for heat. I mostly wanted it to add SOME kind of flavor to the otherwise bland and crumbly tamales. I asked the waitress again if there was ANYTHING spicy in the entire kitchen. She said she'd bring me some jalapenos. What she actually brought out was the original salsa with some bits of pepper in it. Horrible concoction. The Girly ordered 3 tacos which she said were, ok at best. She refused to put that Salsa Agua on her tacos and ate them plain. I ordered the mini chimis which were the only items on the entire table that deserved 3 stars. No more than 3, but a solid 3. Now here is when things got even worse...a VERY pregnant woman came in with her other child in tow. The waitress, for reasons I will never know, started having a pregnancy conversation with the woman while standing less than 3 feet from our table. I don't mean a sweet one, I mean a gross and sickening one. Lady, I'm eating something that looks like it already went through a person, I do not need to hear that your last baby ripped you so much, your two holes became ONE GIANT HOLE. I SERIOUSLY DID NOT NEED TO HEAR THAT! One pro-tip...if the last one ripped your vagina out, maybe you should NOT be trying for another one, hmh? Luckily she was getting take-out and eventually left. Damage had already been done though. Some things are so horrific that the mind can not un-see. THAT visual is one of them. Normally I would not hold that against a restaurant but the waitress was the one who started all the birthing stuff. NOT WHEN WE ARE EATING! The last complaint I have is when we tried to get our bill. We waited and waited until I finally turned and tried to find the waitress. She's in the kitchen door talking to the cook. I called nicely 2-3 times, "Excuse me...Miss? Excuse me!"...then LOUDLY 2-3 times, "Hey! MISS! HELLO?"...until finally I had to YELL to get her attention "HEY! YOU! HEY!!!!". she wasn't busy as we were the only people eating in the entire place and it's small as heck. She was just ignoring her job and chatting while playing on her phone. One day OMSL...I will get you back for this. I would seriously give this place a half star if possible. I know it may have been the perfect storm situation but it was allowed to happen and that's not acceptable. So many bad practices all brewed together shows a badly managed business. I can not possibly recommend this "restaurant" to anyone at all...ever. Maybe a gynecologist with a strong stomach and a sense of humor, but that's about it. read more

I grew up in Texas. So, I hold my Mexican food at a different standard than many people. I have tried all the places suggested to me in the area and I've enjoyed them, but La Fiesta was the first place I felt like home. I got the cheese enchilada lunch plate. It was fabulous. While I was in the middle of eating I told my hubby that I felt like I was going to walk out the door and be back in Texas. The food was just that good. In particular I liked their enchilada sauce. I grew up with particular flavor that I expect enchilada sauce to have that most places around here miss. La Fiesta hit it spot on. Matter of fact, it was so good that I had to ask for a second enchilada because I couldn't believe it was really that good. And, after eating a second one, it really was that good. After finishing up our lunch (which was less than $20 for the two of us) I told my husband that I'm only going to go to the West Bank for Mexican Food now...and that's saying a lot, we live in Kenner. This is the best Mexican food I've had in NOLA, but it's not the best I've ever had (Again, I'm from Texas...). So, I only gave La Fiesta 4 stars. read more

I have to agree with Nola C, that La Fiesta is a 4 star place. I find the food more authentic that most places on Magazine Street, and I like her unassuming ways.... The place, simply speaking is a dump, but we have been frequenting this dump for over a decade because it is consistently good. The sangria has been getting me buzzed for ten years, and I love the crushed ice they offer in the side. Every table is greeted with a small cup of bean dip topped with cheddar cheese, hot tortillas (fresh from the heat lamp), and a plastic squeeze bottle of hot sauce. The menu is simple and affordable. Families seem to love La Fiesta, as the vie for a booth near the flaccid and dog eared Corona pinata, dusty from Cinco de mayo's past. I think this is one restaurant that never grossed me out, pissed me off, or otherwise caused me never to come back in the whole city in the entire 15 years I have been living here. I am sure there are more I can think of if I try, but this is one place that I have had a LTR with that is longer than most. Okay okay, so this place is a bit of a dump. I was surprised that the flimsy square aluminum building was still standing after the storm... but I'm sure glad it was. This place has some of the best, greasiest mexican food in the city. I'm not sure how "authentic" the mexican dishes are, but it doesn't matter. It's also one of the cheapest places I've ever been to. One can walk out stuffed without paying more than $10, and under 20 minutes. La Fiesta was the closest well-reviewed restaurant to where I was attending a conference, so it seemed like a sure bet for a quick lunch. The outside looks promising. It has that 'hidden gem' look. Which is to say that it doesn't look like much. I'm totally OK with that. The inside is decked out with touristy Mexican stuff like multicolored blankets, sombreros, and ceramic things. I'm OK with this too. Decor doesn't make or break a restaurant. It seemed that I was the only patron who wasn't a regular. The waitress had some hilarious banter going with several tables and they were calling each other by name. Pretty cool. The lunch menu was filled with great bargains including items under $5. There are fast food combo meals that cost more than that. I ended up choosing the beef fajitas from the dinner menu because I'm avoiding carbs these days. The fajitas came out and looked good. One bite and I was disappointed. The meat tasted STRONGLY of butter. I can honestly say that I've never tasted fajita meat that tasted like this way. My best guess is that they cooked the meat earlier in the day and sauteed it in butter to bring it to temperature. Make no mistake - I love butter, but that flavor didn't mesh with the marinade and beef flavors. I was starving and running out of time before the conference started again so I finished it without complaining. I can only speak for my fajitas, but I wasn't impressed. I wish this place would been good because it's close to the house and convenient. It was Gross! I stopped in on cinco de mayo to grab a quite bite and trying to be festive. They bring you salsa and chips in a bottle that you squeeze, so weird. I asked for a bowl. I ordered a chicken fajita salad with a side of guac. The chicken and fajita vegetables were so bland. The chicken was rubbery as if it wasn't even cooked all the way. The guac.... so gross, I'm not sure there was an ounce of actual avocado in it honestly. Wow. I had no idea that I ate so much Mexican food, but this is my like my fifth Mexican restaurant review. Anyway...La Fiesta isn't a place that looks like much from the outside. Ok, it doesn't look like much inside, either. I'm pretty sure that this is a house that has been converted to a restaurant. But, don't let looks fool you. The food here is awesome. I would brand this as close to "authentic" Mexican food as it gets (correct me if I'm wrong). My favorite is either a burrito or a chorta (I think...the thing with the cheese and meat sauce). Before Katrina this was 4 stars. Post Katrina and since Mama died, this place has gone down. I've been coming here for 25 years. This used to be the place for authentic mexican food on the westbank but since the storm, so many really good mexican restaurants have opened that la Fiesta is getting blown away. first, it seems like they nuke the food. Plate comes scorching hot and food is out about 2 minutes after you order it. I like to get the Houston and in the old days, it would come on 2 plates about 5 mins apart. Now it still comes on two plates(red hot) and all at once which if you've had the houston you know its better ot get the food in waves but the real shame is the quality of the food as dipped. read more

ok, it's dirty....there is some dust that's been there longer than I've been alive. today we ate there for lunch. Last time we were there it was good, not fabulous, but good. We went with the kids today. The children have a choice of chicken tenders or a cheese enchilada or taco with rice and beans. One ordered the tenders and I asked for a cheese quesadilla instead of a taco. They wouldn't sub it. It's just a soft taco with melted cheese (cheaper to make than the enchilada or taco but whatever. so I had to order the baby's rice al a carte and he just ate off of the adult plates.) our chips, queso and bean dip were good. the salsa was so watery you couldn't eat it with chips though. our meals came out of a microwave I'm sure. they were swimming in sauce with a dried "skin" covering the whole plate. I had a beef enchilada. Not seasoned at all. just ground meat wrapped in a tortilla drowning in sauce. I had a cheese enchilada that was okay but again it was SWIMMING in so much sauce that you could only taste the onions. The flautas were made well but so salty we didn't eat more than 1/2 of one. the tamales were mushy. Yes I know they are supposed to be soft but this was like undercooked. my 3 year old loved the rice and beans but for my older kid, the "chicken tenders" were 6 cheap frozen nuggets. my 12 year old tried one and didn't touch another thing in the basket. I asked the waitress if they had tenders and she said no that's all they have. she offered to wrap it for me to take home but if my kid doesn't want to eat it there, she doesn't want to eat it at home. I told the waitress I'd get her something at mcdonald's next door when we left. we had one queso, two adult meals, one kid's meal and a side of rice for the three year old and a soft drink for each of us. The lunch came to $42! I was shocked to see she charged me for the nuggets. I asked her why and she said because one was missing. Ok, I reminded her that we ordered TENDERS and not nuggets and that my 12 year old TRIED ONE, didn't like it and didn't even eat the fries. I told her I wasn't paying for $5.95 for it so she reluctantly took it off the bill. NEVER EATING THERE AGAIN. There are far too many good Mexican restaurants out there to go here again. read more

Bad Mexican food. 10/10 do not recommend. I saw plenty of red flags, but yet I still decided to give this place my business. 1st red flag was that no one was in there on a Saturday night around dinner time. 2nd red flag was the food seem like it came out of a frozen package. 3rd red flag, no hot sauce. 4th red flag, no alcohol in daiquiris. 5th red flag, small margarita glasses. Been trying different areas in Gretna that are close to my job. And I drive past La Fiesta often and decided to finally stop. There is four, maybe 5 parking places, so I'm not sure what happens when it's busier than it was when I stopped. You are served chips with sauce and refried beans. This was the best part of my meal. The sauce, which I believe is their special creation was quite good. The meal that followed, a chimichanga was a good value for the price, but I couldn't finish it. Not because I was full, but because it simply wasn't that appetizing. It was oddly salty, and the flavors flat. Seasonings make a good Tex Mex meal, and I simply didn't experience that with this meal. Service was good, and again, the amount of food for the price was a little better than expected. But I doubt I'll be returning. read more

Have no idea what these self professed "experts" who give La Fiesta negative ratings are talking about. Clearly they have no clue as to what authentic texmex food is. My mother was from San Antonio and I have plenty of cousins still there. We visit often. At 70 years old I grew up visiting my family and eating true texmex which originated in San Antonio 100+ years ago. La Fiesta is simply the closest thing to truly authentic texmex in New Orleans, bar none!!!! Reminds me and brings back memories of the true texmex food at the small mom and pop restaurants and cafe's as well as the larger ones in San Antonio such as La Posada, etc. read more

Came here because some of my coworkers were crazy about the free bean dip. But the beans tasted like the canned kind, and worse, the guacamole tasted like the packaged kind. I love this place, and think the food taste fab. However, I have noticed a sad trend. A little while back they raised the prices. Ok, I understand that. But then I noticed that the portions on the plate got smaller. I eat there often so I could tell the difference. Today the cheese enchilada was so thin, it may as well have been empty. I sure hope they end this trend, and go back to the way things were or they will be out of business. If you do go to La Fiesta, ask for Maria. She is super friendly, knows how to treat a customer and will always remember what you order if you are a repeat customer. The personal service is hard to beat. read more

This is the BEST Mexican food restaurant. I have enjoyed this restaurant since I was a young girl. The service is always wonderful. The food is consistent. The nachos and tacos are so good. Each nacho is layered not a big pile of mess that get soggy. There chips are baked in the oven crisp and wonderful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Food was bland and super Americanized. Cheap prices, sure, but here you get what you pay for. I was dining in and asked for some extra sauce to try it and I was charged $2.95 and wasn't aware of this until the bill. Not a big deal, but it was clear this place Nickel and dime you for extras. Waitress was fine, but she constantly referred to us as "baby" which of course she dropped the nice act as soon as we questioned what the $3 "Chile" (AKA enchilada sauce) was on the bill. If you want cheap Mexican food, you're better off going to Taco Bell. read more

Thought I'd give La Fiesta a try (never judge an eatery by its appearance or its Bank for that matter). Went with a friend from Tejas to sample the food.... Waitress treated us nice enough to begin with but when we contested the fact that she charged us for two ice teas (we had only ordered one tea and one water with lemon). She angrily said she would change the ticket. When she brought back separate tickets for us - I noticed that my bill was more than what it should have been - turned out , she just removed the ice tea from my friend's ticket on to mine - when we brought this to her attention - she screamed at us and was adamant that the lemons on the table were proof that we both had ice teas...hmmmm...interesting theory. Very rude. Once she corrected the ticket - she slammed it down on the table and left. We left her a juicy tip anyway and wished her the best. Can only assume she thought we would not leave her a tip at all - she didn't get we weren't concerned with the $$$ - some things are about PRINCIPLE!!!!! Anywho. On to the food. It was not fresh. It was cooked in "recycled" oil - very greasy. Taco Bell is a Jewel compared to La Fiesta (and a Fiesta it ain't!). God Bless but this place was not worth the trip to the West Bank! read more
