This is a special place. Everybody I've interacted with has been happy, helpful, and respectful. I'm just there to swim (for now). The pool is nice and warm (enough) and clean. But the exercise equipment (which I pass by on the way to the pool) is comprehensive. A tell-tale sign: there aren't a bunch of "out of order" signs like there are at other gyms I've been to in the past. The last fitness center I joined was Anytime Fitness. Because you never had to have any contact with the employees. My previous experiences had all been at places where all employees talked about was upselling you. And if you weren't upbuying, they wouldn't give you the time of day. This LA Fitness center is as customer-friendly as any business (not just gym) I've ever been to. Everyone I've talked to has been cheerful and helpful. Like old friends. They ask if I need any help or advice, but I feel zero pressure. Do yourself a favor and give them a try. The worst gym I've ever been to. Facilities are dirty and in disrepair. The bathrooms give "gas station" vibes. No one does anything about the multiple complaints given by members. The sauna is moldy and falling apart. Machines are constantly breaking. Maintenance chooses the busiest times at the gym to repair machines. Even going as far as driving a lift through the gym at 10am in a Thursday during the summer (sirens beeping and all) for over an hour to fix lights that could have been replaced when the gym was as closed. The pool is a joke. They do not reserve a lane for swimmers and aqua fit takes over during the only hours available to working individuals. It's disgusting here. Someone please help. There is no other gym in the area w a pool or sauna. It's like we're held hostage by scumlords and they know it.... Management is a joke read more

Q: What has happened to this place? A: the current "operations" manager is way way out of their league even attempting to run this place in the slightest professional business manner. I understand Target is hiring small department managers. Something to consider. Going on TWO WEEKS now of low to NO water pressure and ZERO hot water available!!! She probably should not have told long time clientele that it would be fixed "tomorrow" well over a week ago just to get rid of the complaints they were making back then. Okay. Tactical Error. Did she think that we were tourists passing thru?? YIKES. Not the easiest job in the world on the day to day but this was the best Jacksonville location of a national chain of exercise facilities LAF had available for years. Fairly steady employees, long time friendly social clientele run by extremely competent recent college graduates that heard, saw, understood the daily challenges to running a large exercise gym facility in Florida and literally cared about the membership (old and new) and cared about the place and the benefits of doing a good job. Upper management decided to send those particular employees elsewhere to fix their other locations... a natural choice mind you to make but honestly it's dreadful that it came at the expense of the best location they had. My complaint can be considered a 1st World Problem but that's where the business is located. Right here in the U.S.A. GET THE PLACE FIXED. NOW. Four levels of idiotic bureaucratic mgmt nightmare extending all the way west to Irvine California surely is more than its share of the problem but those type of people only can comprehend one type of review: BYE. I was a member for thirteen plus years since they came to North Florida in January 2013. Not anymore. Do yourselves a an honest business service and try to save this location for the good people that still remain loyal members. Just about every one of them can easily afford to join the high end athletic clubs that are underway building new locations in JAX. . Congratulations on surviving the pandemic (coming up on 7 years ago..) which shuttered many similar facilities but LA Fitness A.B. won't survive its own self inflicted wounds. This location is clean and the equipment well maintained. I like the options for exercising with my spinal stenosis issues that don't place added stress to my back. I can use stability balls, hand weights, leg press, elliptical and swimming pool. I've been able to utilize the equipment safely with my husband's assistance. I also enjoy the spa after to help soothe my back. read more

After signing up for a 3 month training program at LA Fitness in Atlantic Beach, Fl. We verified multiple times with Eric before signing that there was only a one time fee for this 3 month program. Overall, good place. Good assortment of equipment, even if some pieces are dated and not functioning optimally. For instance, the belt slips on some of the treadmill machines. Some very good instructors, like Cindy in yoga. Place is clean enough, even though there is room for improvement. Scales could be installed in the locker rooms. The big problem is the pool area, as there always seems to be some issue with the hot tub and the pool itself. Right now, for instance, there is a problem with the pool heater, which for months they have been unable to fix or even diagnose properly. Not clear whether the issue is inattention, incompetence or an unwillingness on the part of management to do and pay for what is required. Not bad, not the best LA Fitness I've been to, but it seems like they're generally 3 stars unless you had a terrible experience (1 star!!) or have made friends with staff (5 Stars!!). I'm just passing through the area & even though I canceled my membership, it doesn't expire until the beginning of March, so figured I'd get a lift & sauna session in before leaving town. There are no fixed weight straight bar barbells, only e-z or preacher curl bars, but they have 2x sets of those. The sauna space had some funk to it, would be nice if they had some eucalyptus/peppermint essential oils being diffused, besides being common in many sauna spaces, it would mask that stink & provides some good respiratory benefit . Shower water got hot, but there's nowhere to place your personal shampoo/conditioner or soap dish, the top of the wall has only enough space for travel sized containers. Good gym, I didn't play basketball at this location, so I don't know how great the court is, but I'd probably be a member if I lived in the area. Edit: strange that they didn't have an upright calf raise machine, had to make do with a Smith Machine & an aerobic stepper step. read more

Kara and Nicole are absolutely wonderful! We drive, on average, 40 minutes to come to this location because of them! No joke! Truly we want to say thank you to everybody here! The staff are easy to talk to, if we ever have questions or concerns we are able to get them addressed right away, and the kids club/center is full of children who come from families like ours where the kids are encouraged to play together. Kara and Nicole both have helped us and our children through teething, separation anxiety, and they do it with a sincere respect and appreciation for the positive growth of our kids. I recently joined this LA fitness and I really love it. As I've been a member of LA fitness in past years I knew what to expect when I came here. This facility is especially nice and the staff always make an effort to say hello or ask if I need anything. One of the things I like most about this facility is the cleanliness. This gym is wonderful! It's always clean, machines are well-maintained, and the staff is incredible!! There's group fitness classes, a pool, and a sauna! I went here for years and was completely satisfied, but when I decided to really amp up my results, I got a personal trainer. I did the "one day a week" option and got INCREDIBLE results within the first 6 weeks. This specific location (Atlantic Beach) never seems too packed either, which is a huge plus for me! I was recently searching for a gym to use. The LA Fitness brand doesn't have the best reputation, but I thought I would stop in at this location and see if it could be good. I signed up for a free guest pass online and came in on a Saturday. The mens locker room is nice. There are lockers, showers, and bathrooms. They seemed pretty clean for a Saturday too. I first checked out the basketball court and it was nice. They have some balls in there for you to use so I shot around for a while. Since moving to Jacksonville I have really missed basketball so it was nice to find a place that had a court. Too bad there was no one there to play with. The free weights are pretty good. They go up into the hundreds. You know for bicep curls... Most of the machines seemed pretty solid. The stuff here isn't new, but it also isn't horribly worn down. It was not too busy, but I can see how it could get to packed on a Monday night. They have an area where you can do ab exercises or stretch. The negative is that it isn't that big. The staff was okay. The receptionist was nice enough. As I was leaving I spoke with a Membership Rep. The prices seemed okay. They change every month and often vary from location to location in my experience. For some people this would be a good choice although ultimately I ended up joining somewhere else closer to where I live. The membership rep gave me a call a few days after I visited, but at that point I had already joined another place. I think this gym could be good and work for a lot of people. I can't say during my visit there was a huge glaring issues I could see. Even the membership rep was alright. I would check this place out as well as some of the other box gyms around town. LA fitness is my favorite gym in Jacksonville!! With my membership I can go to any location in the country, without having to pay!! How cool is that? I've used it in Ohio, Cali, and Pennsylvania! This location is super close to 95 and is really convenient when I'm on the Southside of town! Front desk staff is kind and the custodians I have met as equally as pleasant! As someone who works in a gym I always try to spot out specific things when I go to another facility. I'll do a basic pro and con review about this LA located right off of Jax Beach. Pros: -This is a decent sized gym. The space is open with high ceilings so it doesn't feel stuffy. -Different areas including a spin/cycle room, basketball court, group exercise studio with mirrors wall to wall, and a lap pool. -Polite staff that are well informed about the policies, positive attitudes, and CPR/First Aid certified. -Great layout of equipment with free weights, cable stations, resistance machines, and cardio machines. Cons: -Lots of attachments, weight plates, and miscellaneous equipment all over the place in free weights. Potential trip hazard if it gets crowded. -No staff monitoring the workout area or able to provide spotting for heavy sets. -No clear dress code policy. The facility does contract a custodial service that comes in x2 per day. The downside would be the majority of people don't wipe down equipment after using it, at least from my observation during my visit. read more

Never in my Yelp career did I think I'd update my review from 5-stars to 3. Let me start off by saying, the gym itself is great. Equipment-wise, space... Etc. I stand by all that. However, there are some employees here who are sub par and disorganized. Do NOT let anyone con you into a "personal training trial". That does not exist and once you try out a session they will say they'll give you more so you "have a feel" for the program "before deciding." Then at the end of the month, without warning, they will charge you $200, tell you it's not refundable and that next month they'll cancel it, but that won't happen either. Everyone will have a different excuse, a different story and no one here will have solutions. The manager told me to "give it time" because "it's (the refund) coming from corporate and it takes a while to process these things. " Nada. Corporate had no idea what was going on until I contacted them personally and the whole thing was resolved within 24hrs. Excellent customer service over the phone: Friendly, direct and truthful. Everything I'd expect from an organization. Thankfully I heard this past week that one of the people who got me into that mess no longer works here, but I wanted to update my review just in case it happens to pop up again. I gotta have my local Yelpers' back! That being said, if you want to do the personal training, just do it! Be straight forward, read your contract twice, make sure all addendums to the agreement are in writing before you sign and enjoy the service! The master personal trainers are skilled and worth the cash if you have it. Still a great 5-star facility to come in, get your workout done and go about your day. I decided to try it out for a week so I can compare this to the Bailey's gym I been a member of for over ten years. At this location.... Hours of operation at 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. You have to scan your membership card at the customer service desk to enter. They do not have a self scan entrance. The floor plan seems a bit small. The pool is a nice touch for exercise. The basketball court is also a different add on to me, although, it is always being used. I NEVER SEEN A GYM WITH PEOPLE LEAVING WEIGHTS ON EQUIPMENT, NEVER WHIPING DOWN EUQIPMENT, PEOPLE LEAVING INTERCHANGEABLE PARTS ALL OVER THE PLACE. Some of the equipment is not located in the general area of where they should be. The fitness class rooms, e.g. cycling and dance, are much larger than expected. Customer service is friendly. Seems that every question you asked someone at the front desk requires them to double check the answers with someone behind a desk. Overall, I. Will stick with baileys. read more

I was using a machine and was on it for a few minutes well aware that each has a 30 min time policy. Well another member wanted me off of it and asked if he could work in and I told him that's not something I feel comfortable doing with the current Covid environment. So he basically stood on top of me and began to intimidate me and rush me. He went to get the manager and, your manger was nice and polite and attempted to talk to him and the other member started to get even more upset and swear in front of the manger and finally stormed off. I finished my set and moved to another machine assuming it was all resolved and just chalked it up to someone not good with waiting. Well he came back to use the machine was was first on and started to bully me verbally and threaten me calling me a faggot. At that point I didn't engaged and calmly wiped the equipment down and left and spoke with the same manager and provided him my information. I also told him I'd like to cancel my membership as I don't feel LA Fitness and my beliefs are the same. I do like working out there, but I can't be part of gym or culture that condones such behavior from its members and condones bullying and shaming. With this current climate and environment we live in all people should be treated with respect. What I experienced at your club was anything from that and no one should have to experience any kind of hate crime, discrimination, verbal, or any kind of abuse from another member as I did. Again, your manager was doing his best and I understand he only witnessed some of it but still he heard this other member swear and conduct himself in an unprofessional member and to diffuse the situation he should of asked the other member to conclude his workout and ask him to leave from the day due to the way he was behaving in front of me and the manger. This would of sent a clear message that behavior like this wasn't acceptable or going to be allowed or condoned at LA Fitness. I get it he most likely went and was just trying to talk to him and be cool as not to upset him, but to allow him to swear at me and act like he was in front of him he should of removed him for that hateful behavior as soon as soon as he heard it and didn't. I wouldn't consider LA Fitness as an option and we as consumers should send a clear message to companies that we will not tolerate or support them if they condone hateful behavior while using their clubs. read more

This place deserve a four star. Everything is on one floor so it can easily be accessed to everyone. Specially if you are a new member or new to the location. It has a 25 meter lap pool with steam room. Great spinning classes and the spinning bikes has power meter so you can keep a track of your progress. Believe me some places don't have this luxury:-( Try Rudy's spinning class. He is the sweetest thing ever, and he brings extra water bottles in case someone runs out of water. It also has a basketball court, dance/yoga room, and play room for the kids. So no one has an excuse not hitting the gym. One thing they can improve is the air conditioning because it's kind of smelly in there. Once you enter, the air hits you in the face and it's not good sign for any type of business to greet their guest like this. read more

For this particular branch, I'm a regular. Bit of a drive for me compared to the one at Kernan but this have better rating for me than the former. It is spacious and good layout for cardio, indoor cycling, pool, jacuzzi, weights area, equipments and the ball court. It doesn't have the racket ball court which is not really a big deal for me. I have no complaints about the location nor the equipments and amenities. I come here all the time. What's disappointing would be how this place is managed. I would have given this a rating of 4-stars yet the longer I come here, the more dissatisfying this branch becomes. Not all staff are nice. They choose who to talk with nor look at. Selected few would make an effort to greet you, they are either chatting with each other, on their phones or selectively choose the customers to deal with. Some of the staff members who actually works out there does not even follow their own policies--they don't wipe equipments, nor re-rack weights. When they are with new clients or training new members, they do not even reiterate this. They are their own rule-breaking folks. Weights, attachments and other workout misc all over the place--not well kept. If an equipment is broken and scheduled for service, expect that this would take forever to be fixed. Coming here almost 5 days every week, it's hard to say when they actually clean the showers, change the shower curtains and check/clean lockers. Seems they are having a hard time keeping regular maintenance people since you'd see new faces all the time. At least they changed their water fountain which also took forever; now it has a dispenser if you chose to mix your concoction at the gym. Water tastes better than other LA branches. There's not enough cleaning (foam) dispensers and paper towels so that people would be encouraged to CLEAN after themselves. Upon closing, maintenance people would be doing their regular clean-up but I do not see the disinfection for most of the equipments especially the free weights. Maintenance seems to be scarce here as you can see rust on the weights, racks, machines and some even makes weird noises--due for some lubrication guys! PROPER dress code is not strictly implemented. This business either don't care at all the someone in JEANS decides to run on the treadmill or do leg-day wearing Sandals OR they are not afraid that people are at risk of fall injuries, trips, accidents, etc. from gym members (who should now better). Apparently this gym probably doesn't care about lawsuits either. I have been an LA fitness members for 3 years now or so nowadays I'm thinking should I stick or try to find a better one closer. A 20-min drive to gym like this is not appealing. read more

Been a member for a year or so and this club has definitely gone downhill. The cleanliness offers a lot to be desired, often trash on the floor in the men's locker room, showers filthy. Also, most of the lockers are off limits so everyone has to use the same few lockers (15). If you get there later in the day you don't get a locker. No more sharing the 3 lanes in the pool so only 3 people can swim at a time. You may have quite a wait. The jacuzzi is frequently down, rarely available. Many of the employees are not very helpful, some quite rude. Not very knowledgeable. They seemed to be more like mask nazis - if you go from a treadmill to a step machine 3 feet away you must put on a mask or they will threaten to revoke your membership. Doesn't matter if you are panting hard. Stupid and ridiculous rule. Looking around several of the employees didn't have masks on at all. I understand the management has changed hands recently. The manager is not helpful and seems downright rude. I may have to cancel my membership and go to another fitness club. read more

The gym is overcrowded and the amount of working machines isn't sufficient for the amount of members. There are a limited amount of machines due to machines constantly being "scheduled for service" for weeks at a time. The classes are also limited with very few offerings in the evening and early morning and most being available during a Mon-Friday 9 to 6 time frame when most individuals are working or in school. They must have a bunch of weekend classes though? Nope. They offer 1 Zumba and Spin on Saturday and 1 Zumba on Sundays, sometimes. And good luck getting into Spin because some days it requires a reservation, some days it's first come first serve and don't expect a call/email to be notified of which one it is. And when you ask for a manager to voice your concerns, they just give you the corporate office to complain. It's 949-255-7200 and theyre on Pacific standard time, if you're wondering. I've been a member for years now but am visiting the new Crunch gym this weekend. This place has really gone downhill. It's a shame. read more

The weekend hours are horrible. I can't go to the gym after work. I have to wake up early before work to get my lift in. This is a nice gym as far as cleanliness and the machines. Many gyms that I've been to don't strive to be this clean. Often there are people cleaning the bathrooms and I see them cleaning other equipment when I'm in there. I used to be an La fitness member but not anymore, just a guest when I come. My mom is a member here and I come with her and there always seems to be some confusion when bringing a guest. One morning I was told I was all set, another I was supposed to see a membership coordinator. I wish that they have pre moistened towels instead of paper towels with spray to clean off the machines but that's just me being nit picky. read more

The good part first. I joined a prepaid plan to have use of the pool until the weather allowed using my outdoor pool. This is my second year doing so. The members using the pool are so polite. Much of the time we have to share the lanes. I look forward to my workouts at the pool. Having a whirlpools also very good. Like any other pool I have joined, the hot tub is always needing attention. It's just the nature of them. My only issue with the pool area is the air circulation is very poor. The chlorine gas content in there seems is too high. I have used indoor pools for decades. Someone on the staff told me I could not check in with my phone number. If I didn't want to use my cell phone, I would have to go to another gym to get a tag. What's up with that? Very happy with this gym. Opened up quickly as soon as the state would allow post-virus shutdown. Had equipment separated for social distancing requirements, still plenty of room and lots of modern strength equipment to use. Vast array of disinfectant spray bottles available for anyone who feels the need to spray as they go. The equipment seems to be kept well and always in working order, nice not to see "closed for repairs" notices throughout a typical public gym. I have a couple of LA Fitness facilities accessible to me, I usually choose this one due to few hard to find special machines that make the workout more enjoyable. The staff is friendly and there is always someone around with advanced training knowledge should you need to discuss battle strategy. read more

I have been an LA fitness member for almost a year now. Overall it was been good for using only the gym equipment. However, there are often many repairs going on leaving a good amount of equipment unable. I also had a terrible experience with the head personal trainer at the Atlantic beach location. I now go to the Atlantic location by Kernan. He as rude and made rude comments about my body type asking if I even eat and asked me if I "want to look like an Ethiopian runner" when I told him training wasn't in my budget he processed to say that I should just "put it on daddy's credit card". I should have spoken to management right away because that is unacceptable but I was just so shocked about what he had said. read more

I have been going to the LA Fitness at Kernan since they opened but discovered that the one at Atlantic Beach offers better spin class times on the weekends so I've started driving out there to partake. This is also a new facility and has all the bells and whistles that the other location has. There is something I like better about this facility, but I can't put my finger on what it is? This gym. Glad I spent a good amount of money on headphones so I can hear their music through them (on the loudest setting). I would ask them to turn it down a little... Since 90% of the people have headphone/ear buds, but just like my issue with people hogging three different machines at once, I'm sure they would tell me "SOL"... Because I like to pay money to wait for someone to be almost done with their set (using three different machines). Do you pay rent, mortgage, or monthly on your car? Can I come over and use it? No? You don't want to share stuff you pay for? Waiting for someone to be done with one machine is one thing. I have no problem waiting for them to be done with one machine. I have workout planned out from least favorite to favorite. So no I don't want to just use the next machine... Me asking for one machine shouldn't be the problem, the turd using three should be... I don't want to pay money to share one machine with a stranger. This isn't a real gym. It's a corporate owned place with child care (only reason why I'm here) Long story short, great customer service... At least the girls in the daycare are awesome, only reason why I gave it an extra star. (Not being sarcastic there, they are really sweet and are great with my babies) Sometimes frat looking dudes walk around barefoot or wearing sperrys. Old people (majority) think if they just air dry their sweat clothes they are reusable... The smell is intoxicating. Once an old man walked around for 30mins with his derrière hanging out. It's a freak show. It's great for people watching. If you don't have to have a gym with child care, go to a real gym and support local businesses. read more
