When you walk into Atlantic Beach Performance gym the first thing you notice is there are no weights just a bunch of resistance bands, kettle bells, slosh pipes, medicine balls and tractor tires in this huge 5000 sq ft open space. All of the workouts are designed by Mark Avens who has physical therapy training as well as being a personal trainer. The workouts are all cutting edge, designed to challenge your endurance, balance and strength. A lot of the movements they utilize are designed to strengthen the core. They use a lot of interval training that incorporate bouts of intense exercise by a few moments of rest. The workouts are intense but achievable for us mere mortals- I've heard people describe the workout there as "CrossFit light" or "Crossfit without the injuries". For example, last nights class involved intervals of wind sprints, resistance band work, variations of planks, jumps, one legged hops, followed by a group tug of war. For those who need to work up to some of the more intense workouts they offer one-on-one training as well as an entry level group class. I love Atlantic Beach Performance. I joined on May 18th 2012, To be honest, I was a mess...heavy, miserable with extremely low self-confidence and truely in need of some TLC.. I chose this gym because I didn't want just a gym with machines, classes and people in and out. After months of being cooped up in my house yesterday I went back to my gym. AS sore as i am today, i can't tell you how good it felt to be at my 2nd home. I was welcomed by my favorite health advisor Big Z. One of the things that sets LA Fitness apart is its extremely excellent staff. They make you feel like it is their pleasure to help you. From the manager who is so willing to answer any question and more importantly to follow up any complaint. Like getting any equipment fix quickly. To Big Z who is well informed about exercise. he can size any one up and give them the best routines for their body type. Then his nutritional advise can't be matched. As i went into the gym, i saw how they made the gym user friendly. All the equipment was rearranged to meet the new Covid guides lines. I slept like a baby last night. I've been going for one year and my life has sincerely changed for the better. I am 58 and felt like an old man when I got to the gym. I had little or no balance left, my entire left side was substantially weaker than my right and my back was constantly sore or hurt and I was a bag of bones. Fast forward one year later, I have my balance back, my backaches are 90% better and I've put on 7 punds of muscle while toning a certain amount. Wow! Atlantic Beach Performance Fitness ROCKS! I have been in reasonably good shape my whole life and excercize is a part of my lifestyle. But... as my size got bigger, I attributed it to age and kind of accepted it. Until... Nicole invited me to a Boot Camp workout at ABPF and boy- it was SO hard! I have been attending boot camp at Atlantic Beach Performance since April. I love it. I hate to miss a class. I am in better shape now than I have been in years!! Nicole provides the nutrition facts and great tips and Mark gives you a work out that can not be beat. It is always challenging and continually changing so there is no boredom. Where else can you go to class and use a sledge hammer?!! I ran a marathon in October and another one in the beginning of January. I dropped 20 minutes off my time. The hardest part....showing up!!! It is the toughest workout I have ever done, but there is something about it that keeps me coming back...oh, probably the RESULTS!!!! I have been to about four other "bootcamp" type gyms before but nothing compares to AB Performance. Seriously, it is the best workout I have ever had. Mark prepares the best full body workout that is 100% the reason why I have lost ten pounds in just two weeks. I feel so much much stronger and have so much more energy at work. This gym is amazing! After having my second child I was in desperate need of a workout to help tone and get me back in pre-baby shape.
