Crowded! Even during off hours, this place is packed. If that's your thing, you'll be fine, but for me, it makes my time at the gym stressful. This is my least favorite LA Fitness in the Portland area. Typically I work out in the Pearl, but the pool was closed so I drove out to Beaverton. Dealing with an injury, I'm walking with a cane and was immediately disappointed that the front door did not have an automatic handicap button. Upon entering, no one greeted me, they were too busy chatting with themselves. While the pool has stairs in addition to ladders, the steps are not standard height. A few of them are about 1.5 x the height making it extremely challenging for those with mobility issues. Not only are they too high, they are not consistent. Very dangerous! Yes, they have a chair lift for those in a wheelchair, but for others who are disabled and have difficulty going up and down stairs, this pool should have lower steps the way the Pearl and the NE Weidler LA Fitness are designed. I'm surprised this passed code. Bathrooms were not clean. I had to find paper towels to clear out the mass of hair from the drain before showering. Parking lot is super crowded, hard to find a spot close to door, and being handicapped, not enough handicapped spots so all were taken. Tried out this location because I needed to get my workout in, but when the Pearl is closed, I'll drive out to Tualatin for a better experience. read more

Worst gym ever! The customer service is terrible, they don't have much equipment and always out of towels to clean the equipments. Overall the worst experience that my partner and I had With a gym. The biggest turn off was the services, they don't care about their customers. I would recommend any other gym besides this one. read more

The assistant manager Max needs to be fired. He has no empathy for his customers or team members for that matter. I went to pick up my kids from the kids club and when I got there, my older kid said another child had touched their diaper. We asked for a demonstration and my kid explained another child went under his clothes and touched his private parts in the jungle gym. The two workers Alma and Andy had their hands full in the front of the kids club almost out of view of anything going on farther down by the bathrooms and jungle gym. When I told them, the only thing they both said was that they didn't see anything. They said they can't catch everything which is true because they seem like they never have enough people helping watch the kids. Alma is great, but she has a broken foot so she is not able to keep an eye on them as much as she could be, but that is no excuse. I take everything said from a kid with a grain of salt, but children do not create situations like that where another kid is touching them inappropriately. The team members didn't seem trained on what to do to handle the situation and so I asked to talk to a manager. Max the assistant manager walks in. I tell him the situation and he tells me that his two employees didn't see anything. Maybe you need more people so you can have more eyes on the kids. Maybe you need to close off the jungle gym if you do not have enough capacity to make sure kids aren't getting r@ped in it. Maybe if his team members can't see everything, you need to realize that is a problem and make a system so this doesn't happen again. He told me that they are just kids and there is not much they can do about it and that things just happen because they can't catch everything. Things like r@pe don't just happen, Max. There are definitely measures you can take to make sure that the children are not SEXUALLY ASSAULTING EACH OTHER. Max did not show any care towards the situation and just asked if they called the other kid's parents which they did. This is when Max left. No resolution. He offered them no help at all when an obviously serious situation happened and he left his team members to deal with the situations. Max seems to be the type of person to let his team members do the heavy lifting while he sits at his desk on his phone. I say that because that's what he did after he spoke with me. What a leader. Luckily, Andy got me through to his higher ups. I spoke with Ella who I believe used to be the operating manager there. Ella was the first person that I talked to that understood the severity of the situation and helped me by telling me the next steps I would need to take and that they would take. Andy also helped me file the incident report and both he and Alma apologized saying that they've never dealt with anything this serious before so they were stunned. I am not mad at them and I appreciate them, especially Alma, she is always amazing. But there is something systemically wrong at this establishment starting at the top. It is clear that the kid's club needs more support especially during rush times and he was nowhere to be found. He ran away as soon as he could to go fart around on his phone at his desk because he is obviously so important that he is too busy to deal with a customer who potentially had his kid molested in his custody. Good job, Max. We are supposed to trust that these people can take care of our kids and they obviously need more support and training. Max needs to be fired, no doubt. Get Alma and Andy more help, they are drowning and Max is not throwing them a lifeline. He does not care about his customers or his team. There is a mix of older and younger kids and it always seems like the workers end up having to closely monitor the infants and just don't have the resources or support to watch the rest. Unless they take serious measures like adding in more help or closing off areas like the jungle gym where they physically are not able to see everything that is going on, I will be canceling my membership and requesting a refund. read more

I swap between the pearl one and this one depending on my schedule. I like the equipments in the Beaverton location and the squat racks, but people hog a lot of machines for a really long time and there are a lot of old creepy men that stare at you or film you. I feel disgusted and uncomfortable every time I go. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I have been bringing the group fitness room's HVAC issue for years and no action was taken. Every time they gave a different reason saying they do not have money, corporate needs to approve, oh the hvac just broke recently, etc. but they were able recently create a pilates studio and done lots of renovations. However, something as important as HVAC was not important since members' safety and health is not important for them. When I mentioned that it becomes really hot in there and I am worried someone will faint or even have a heart attack, they responded saying "nah no one will have heart attack". Even asking a notice in the door and trying to know when things will be fixed was too much for them. If you like group fitness this is not the La fitness to go especially in summer. read more

I just went back to La fitness within the last year to be able to have more options with better equipment. I was truly surprised how outdated equipment was. The leg extension they have is pretty old and wore out. One of the machines has been sitting broke for about two months along with a chest fly machine. If La wants to maintain their clients equipment needs to be updated and replaced or at least fixed on a timely matter. Recently in the last couple months or so the mens sauna has been unreliable. It's normal functionality is broken without repair. With that neglect, I've experienced three separate occasions where the saunas temperature was adjacent to the locker room. In concern, I brought it up to the front desk. The explanation was passed down to me from the manager, "it takes a long time to warm up in the mornings because we cant keep it on all night." I had arrived at 7am, and they open at 5am. Prior to these events, I had been occupying the sauna at that time for several months without this issue. That explanation does not round out properly. It sounds like there is no attempt into fixing the sauna issue. Also, it sounds like I am not the only one who has brought it up to their attention. It doesn't feel like management seems to care much about a very unique feature that this gyms has. Before I would promote this place, but now it is really hard to stand by those feelings. read more

The gym itself if very nice, clean and well equipped. All said, they contract with Grip Personal Training/Elevate Fitness Coaching. Grip's trainer at this location is great. Unfortunately, the company he works for has multiple, multiple Better Business Bureau complaints about hidden contract fees. After your "free" personal training session, you will experience a high pressured sales pitch to commit to ongoing personal training. The full terms of the contract will not be disclosed. Ask for a printed copy, go through it at home, then make your decision. You will be told that you can cancel if a serious medical situation arises. Even with proof of your diagnosis, and a note from your Dr. banning you from lifting/straining/training, indefinitely? You will be charged $299 to cancel! Grip will not honor their own contract. read more

How hard is it to keep the clean stations full. It's bad enough that half don't even try to wipe equipment after they used it but now, you're training the rest to not care as well. That goes for your trainers too. Freaking wipe down the equipment after you train. Teach them to wipe as well. It's about health and fitness. read more

*****Update December 2021***** 4 stars Changed my reviews to 4 stars after the recent glow-up. I was considering almost cancelling my membership when I heard that the gym was going to undergo some major remodeling for 10 days. Well, they did not skimp and the management honestly made the changes where it mattered most. I was delighted to see completely new flooring, upgraded, brand new machines (including the entire upstairs cardio machines!), spacious functional training zone, and a better layout overall. It appears the front desk people have improved their attitude as well, they engage more and provide a more welcoming atmosphere by greeting customers when they enter and leave. The only thing preventing me from leaving a 5* review are: lack of a space dedicated to Olympic lifting with appropriate mats, and an update to the background gym music (not sure if the music that has been selected is rigid based on the LA fitness brand), but this isn't a big deal. Lack of classes between 11-5. There are a lot of people who don't work traditional hours and would like to come to the gym at 12,1,2 pm. It would be nice if they could add more class offerings in the afternoon. The kids club is still a sad scene and looks desolate, if someone took some effort to make this place more lively (even as subtly as with the decor), and have more early childhood providers, that would be huge. Especially if this is something that requires an additional fee (as it should). Other than that, its the facelift this gym badly needed...perfect in time for the January rush of new customers! read more

Unprofessional, Hostile, and Misogynistic Behavior from LA Fitness Trainer: Ryan in Beaverton at 2800 SW Hocken Ave. I had a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience at this location. I came in hoping to take a quick look around the gym, as it's closer to my home now that I work remotely. At the front desk, I politely explained that I'd looked up the membership options online and didn't want to be sold anything or added to a call/email list--just a quick self-tour to confirm it was a good fit. The front desk employee was polite and accommodating, but after clicking on his computer, another staff member--Ryan--approached. When I reiterated that I didn't need a tour or sales pitch and just wanted to look around, Ryan became immediately confrontational. He loomed over me and asked, "Is this how you normally speak to people?" in an aggressive tone. Confused and caught off guard, I clarified my request, saying, "I'm just here to take a look. Is there a problem?" Ryan then said, "You're coming off as aggressive. This is probably not the right gym for you. You should go to 24 Hour Fitness. Get out of my gym." I asked the front desk employee for the man's name, and he said, "Ryan." When I asked for Ryan's last name, the front desk employee hesitated, saying he couldn't provide it. At that point, Ryan shouted aggressively, "You don't get my fing last name. Get the f out of my gym!" Feeling unsafe and deeply disrespected, I left. Unfortunately, I let my frustration get the better of me and gave him a gesture I regret. However, Ryan responded by shouting, "Yeah, f*** you! Get the f*** out of here!" This encounter was deeply unsettling. As a woman, I felt targeted and disrespected, as if Ryan's aggression stemmed from my not fitting his expectations of how a woman "should" act. His behavior came across as hostile, unprofessional, and misogynistic. I would not recommend this location to anyone, especially women, given the behavior I experienced from someone in a leadership position. read more

Overall, I had a decent experience at LA fitness, and they had everything I needed equipment wise to do my workouts. Many areas for improvement though. For one, the bathrooms are pretty gross and some of the equipment is very dirty and usually strewn about the gym. Some of the handles for the cable machines are also dirty and old, tied in knots to keep it together. It would be great if there were another smith machine or two, more d-handles, and some extra barbells by the turf mat so people don't have to take them off the other pieces of equipment. The staff are kind but could be much more professional. The front desk is often chatty with other staff members and sometimes don't acknowledge when you walk in. Other times, there are no staff at the desk at all or they're on their phones, which makes security of the club questionable. I've also seen a member of the sales department asleep with his head on his desk and nobody wears a name tag. read more

I just joined the club in December and I'm regretting it. The equipment is so overwhelming because is so close to each other i feel I don't have space between my self and the person working out next to me. I feel the equipment is close to each other that someone is going to get hurt very badly. **Please read on to see experience of cancelling membership** I wish I could rate the facility higher, I hate giving one star reviews. After working out there for one day, I quickly realized this space was not for me. Near the treadmills upstairs the ceiling was leaking water into multiple buckets. The locker room bathrooms were pretty gross and seemed to not be cleaned very often. The layout of the gym also made the space very crowded. I was surprised how many people were there with how little equipment was available. Felt like I had to wait in lines to use weights or treadmills. What gave this one star was my experience in trying to cancel my membership with the location's staff. Background context, I have a seizure disorder and am currently unable to drive due to this, my partner drove me in on Sunday morning to request cancellation because in the sign up portion they said I would be required to do this in person - inconvenient but no problem. The gym associate shared that I am unable to cancel my membership unless the Sales Manager is onsite to facilitate. He said I would need to come in during her working hours which is 9am-5pm on Monday through Friday. I was shocked to hear this and shared that I needed some accommodation because those are mine and my partner's working hours, I cannot drive and there was no way I could get there on those times/days. He shrugged and said I could call the gym and ask for Courtney the next day. I called to talk with the Sales Manager, the receptionist kept trying to take a message and I told them I needed to talk with her directly. Once I got to her, and explained my situation she seemed pretty uninterested and told me "These are the terms for everyone so if you can't make it work - sorry" She did inform me that I could mail in my notice but it would take up to 30 days to be reviewed?? to cancel a gym membership I used once? After doing some research, I contacted LA Fitness corporate because I could not believe the options being presented. The representative was very helpful and compassionate. She was surprised and disappointed to hear of my experience and the lack of options this location was willing to give. She immediately cancelled my membership, and refunded me for the previous month. She even told me she will be calling that location to provide coaching on how to work with customers and provide options that are fair to the customer. ** If you need to cancel your membership and run into similar hurdles please save yourself the arguement with their staff and call their office to get your membership cancelled the way it should be. Predatory business that intentionally requires members to come in person Monday through Friday 9am-5pm to cancel their membership. I came in person on Sunday and was just told of this requirement, til now I was only told that the requirement was to cancel in person, not of these designated hours which is a first for me. I have to speak with the Supervisor Courtney which will be done tomorrow. I will have to take time off work to do this which is very inconvenient in order for this franchise to keep as much money as they can at the cost of customer satisfaction/experience. Stay clear of this club. They spend just enough money to keep the lights on and sign up new members. The shower area is a dump, the bathroom smells like a toxic pit, the locker rooms are never picked up. The sauna is kept at a tepid temperature. There is rust in the pool area. If something breaks, it takes an act of Congress to fix it. Just to have them change batteries in a clock in the pool took a month. After asking twice about it, I was lied to why it wasn't fixed. Many times there are paper towels dispensers that have zero paper towels in them for your hands, and it's not unusual for the soap dispensers in the showers to be completely out of soap. It's obvious that management never walks through this club and takes note on the day-to-day operation. And the times that I come there to stand in the cold with others, waiting for the doors to open at 5 AM, More than once the club doesn't open until 10 or 15 minutes after their doors are supposed to open. I have written the Portland manager, I have written corporate, And nothing seems to change. But if you like wet, gross underwear that somebody left in front of the showers and is never picked up, if you enjoy Jacuzzis were half the jets aren't replaced for over four weeks, and if you enjoy a sauna that is about as hot as a car with its windows rolled up, then this club is for you! read more

I have been enjoying the recent remodel, but I would much rather that they hire a team of people that actually clean this gym. It's embarrassing how dirty this gym is. I've seen cones and weights sit in the same spots for DAYS before being picked up. There are paper towels, free weights, kettle bells, balls, etc. Etc. Spread all throughout this gym, everywhere. I am constantly having to pick up after others in order to use equipment. When I first go in, I stretch, and when I wipe down the mat it turns my paper towel black from the amount of nastiness on there. I've been to many gyms, and this is by far the grossest one I've been to. There are two or three cleaning people, but I don't think I've ever actually seen them do anything useful. One lady walks around with a broom smaller than I use for my kitchen, and she just moves it back and forth with almost zero purpose. It's comedic to watch the crew "clean", I have owned a cleaning business in the past, and I don't know how anyone can justify this... There should be someone wiping down the one single stretch area mat that there is every 30 minutes, in between that time, that person should be non stop perusing the gym for things to pick up and put away, throwing away paper towels... it's easy easy work. Another person should be ACTUALLY cleaning the floors, it's crazy how there will be one or two people sweeping (like extras on a low budget film) yet there is constantly paper towels scattered on the ground. And the third should be in charge of bathrooms and wiping down equipment. There is no excuse that a gym this size can't do a better job, it's shameful and embarrassing. At this point I'm just waiting for Lifetime to open. I've had a fantastic experience with them in the past in previous states, and I don't have to worry about ringworm on the stretching mats. read more

I'm from out of town so was only looking for a week pass. Walked in, they told me I could have the day for free and after that I could just sign up for a month as it would be cheaper than paying $20 for the daily pass each day. I finished my workout and Ryan at the front desk said that he was going to just let me workout for free for the week. Incredible people a working there and on top of that the amount of equipment they have is amazing as well. Didn't have to wait at all for a machine at any point. Would 100% recommend read more

Way too many people here for the building. Never had so many irritating encounters at a gym before. The lack of space, staring strangers, and machine/weight hogs are almost always an issue. This location is convenient for me but the recent "remodel" is horrible. They removed some of the most popular machines to install a huge astro-turf area which is a complete waste of space! Now the gym feels cramped and 10 times more crowded and longer waits on the machines. read more
