I've been a member here for years, there's always been cleanliness and maintenance issues. Today the sauna was "closed for maintenance" and taped off with masking tape... no maintenance workers in sight. Out of the 8 or so showers, one had a soap dispenser. The carpet for the CrossFit section in the middle of the gym is visually very dirty and needs to be vacuumed. Frustrating, they take your money every month, but usually fail to deliver what is advertised. Hope it gets better. It has to be the leadership and culture, because these aren't insurmountable tasks that we're talking about here. read more

Although the staff is friendly, this location poorly lacks in cleanliness and upkeep. I come here almost every weekday first thing in the morning. And every time there is always dirt and trash everywhere. The pics I added were just from standing in one spot. It seriously needs daily cleaning and a major upgrade. In addition the weights don't seem to be in the right places either The reason I keep coming here is because it's quiet in the mornings, I can workout without waiting for equipment, price is fair, and it's conveniently located to me. read more

Facilities are filthy. It's very apparent that the manager of the Denton facility is either not present or has a very low standard. I utilize LA Fitness because they have so many locations all over the DFW metroplex, I've visited many of them and this one is by far in the worst condition with the lowest level of upkeep. read more

Recently moved to Denton and joined LA fitness. Have regretted my decision. This place is a dump! The locker room stinks. They're regularly out of toilet paper and wipe down wipes. All the TVs have Fox News and you gotta listen to God-awful hip-hop music. I'd rather die of obesity and cardiac arrest than I have to go back to this place. read more

The gym is OK. Kinda middle of the road in cleanliness and equipment. Seem to stay on top of maintenance. I went for the yoga. All the clients are super friendly. But classes are very frustrating. They don't manage their instructors, so you never know what you will get. Teach any way they want, on any given day - no designated types of yoga. One teacher was really rude to me today when I tried to tell her I would have to modify. If yoga is what you want, go somewhere else. If you want a basic multipurpose gym, this place is OK. I've been going here on and off since around 2010. It's definitely declined as far as the locker room, bathrooms, and where convenience is concerned. The women's bathroom is mostly dirty and the floors are usually wet too. Things are falling off the ceiling and multiple sinks are constantly leaking. There used to be 2 paper towel distributors on the walls in the toilet room, now there's only one. Some of the toilets have a hard time flushing. Upstairs with the treadmills and such, there used to be a towel distributor to wipe machines off in the corner near the fire door, but it's gone now. The TVs upstairs are hit or miss on if they work or are blurred (however I have noticed that some have been replaced recently, thankfully). Just many "luxuries" that used to be around are not there now. The machines downstairs are also all squished together due to needing the green space for random body works and weights. We do enjoy the hand sanitizer dispensers and variety of weight machines. The machines and weights have kept up all these years, which is our main reason to keep coming. Also enjoy the racquetball courts. All of that said, it's still worth coming to and the staff is very nice and helpful, but sad that it's declined so much and management doesn't put in any work or money to make it better. read more

We were intending to join LA Fitness and were quoted a price to pay in advance for a year so we scheduled a time to come sign up with John two days later since we couldn't come the same day. We were in constant communication with him via text and we arrive to find out what he told us was incorrect because his regional manager corrected him. It would of been nice if he had texted us to let us know that was the case versus tell us to come and waste a 45 minute drive. All he could offer was a 14 day pass or us paying full price no difference than doing monthly. We will take our business elsewhere. No wonder there rating is so low, should of known. read more

I was told when they sold me a membership that they would provide a few basketballs in the gym. Not one basketball is playable. Some are arcade basketballs and others are dented and don't bounce. It would be nice if some things were replaced with our yearly maintenance payments that we are required to pay. Some of the cable machines are too old and don't pull smoothly. No straight bars with EZ bar rack. Filthy locker room. Scale has been broken for months. No paper towels in weight room, only wet wipes. So when someone wipes down machine after use, you have to use it with their sweat mixed with wet sanitation. read more

I've been coming to this gym for a while. I think LA Fitness is a pretty good option if you want to the convenience of being able to work out at different locations. Their rates are fairly reasonable, they have an initiation fee but they often run specials and are at times as low as $25 and their monthly fee is somewhere between $25-30 and you can sign up just month-to-month. The amenities are pretty good, they have loads of machines, different types of cardio equipment and plenty of dumbells etc. They also have five racquetball courts, a basketball court, a cycling room and a fitness class room. You can sign up for classes and cycling etc without any extra cost. They also have a pool, spa, and sauna. I haven't been here during peak hours, I have never had to wait on a treadmill and just at times on a specific machine. The employees are friendly and helpful. The people working out that I've run into are friendly and I've never had problems with anyone. I also signed up for personal training, the personal trainers I've talked to are all really laid back and pretty outgoing and seems to really know what they are talking about and can help with diet as well. They have complimentary wifi and is reliable, actually, it's far more reliable than the wifi I used when I worked out at Lifetime Fitness a long time ago. They have TV's and music but I've been streaming music via the wifi on my phone without any problems. The things that lower my rating is that the men's restroom often is dirty and doesn't seem to be cleaned every day, at least not on the weekends. It can also take several days before the soap dispensers are refilled. They seem to do a good job of cleaning in the main gym area, I've often seen people clean off machines and the floors etc. Also, it would be more convenient if they could add a small shelf or hook inside the showers so you can hang up keys and similar. It would be convenient if they had a towel service but it's not a big deal to bring your own towel. You have to bring your own lock for the lockers if you want to change clothes. Overall, I think it's a good gym and the cost is very reasonable. read more

I like my gym I just don't understand why no one ever cleans anything around here. the showers are just gross. I only use one shower cubby because I have scrubbed the walls myself just so I can shower in there don't get me wrong the curtain is so nasty still. I just can't see why they don't make there employee clean I mean get a power washer in there and clean it with that it's all tile in there. then fix the broken machines. This is my favorite gym and have been a member here for 3 years. Eddie was great in sorting out my membership. I can always look forward to a clean facility with all the equipment I could imagine, smiling faces, and a great workout. There are classes, racquetball courts, a sauna and trainers to elevate your experience and your workout. Come hungry, get ready to grind, and attain peak performance at the Denton LA Fitness. Update: Kaycee recently gave me a cheese stick when I was in need of a snack to avoid passing out after an intense workout. Such a nice gym. Gym is kinda small and has inconvenient hours on weekends with very limited daycare service. I tried cancelling my membership over the phone. The manager Jenna said the only way to do it was to come into the club on a week day or mail in a special cancellation form. This was very inconvenient, so I called corporate and they were in fact able to cancel my membership over the phone no problem! Managers should be trained to be more informed about cancellation policies. read more

I cancelled my membership here recently after finding I never wanted to go due to it always being so crowded. With the exception of about a one-hour window every afternoon, it is so crowded that I couldn't get in a good workout since I spent so much time waiting for machines. You get a free consultation with a personal trainer when you sign up for a membership, and I was interested in signing up for personal training when I began. My free consultation seemed somewhat unenthusiastic though; the trainer gave me a handout with vague info on how to sign up and rushed me out after a quick workout. I understand it's a free consultation and most people don't sign up so it's probably not their favorite thing to do, but I was disappointed. read more

I'm a big fan of the gym itself; it's very open and lively, plenty of machines and free weights (although they could definitely use more squat racks and deadlift zones). My only real complaint is the pricing. $35 monthly plus + $100 start up fee?? That's ridiculous. I used to only pay about $20 a month. I just feel it's excessive, especially in times like now. I have been a member of the Denton Loop 288 gym for years and have been happy with it. Recently their cleanliness has been poor, and they have had a difficult time hiring janitorial staff. I hear that they have hired some who don't really seem to understand that the job includes scrubbing toilets, even though they have been told that. I think that the local gym is being limited in its pay scale by corporate, and this has led to a decline. However, I asked local management and they say that new janitorial staff have been hired and will start this weekend. I have great expectations. read more

I went in last Friday to sign up for a membership. I was very excited because they offered lots of classes, had a swimming pool, and was a nice facility overall. They told me with my membership that I got one free workout with a personal trainer. I was excited because this would give me ideas about how I should work out! As of right now I cannot afford one, but doing one free trial doesn't hurt anybody. So I go and do my free workout and they tell me to go over to the computers. They tell me the costs and I tell them it is way out of my price range (the costs ranged from $280-$600 a month!!) They call over their manager and he tells me he can get the price down to $200 a month. I tell him there is no way that can happen, as I am a newlywed, a recent college graduate, and we have a lot of bills we have to pay. Then things started getting aggressive. The manager is telling me how if I work out on my own without a personal trainer that I will not gain muscle and I will "lose weight" but my whole body will be all fat and no muscle and I will not be healthy. He tells me that I won't live a long life because I will not dedicate one year of my life to personal training. And then the cherry on top: he tells me if my husband cared about me, he would pay for my personal training, because what good husband doesn't care about their wife? A person can call me fat, tell me I will not reach my goals, but as soon as you attack my husband and say he's not a good husband, my views on you are out the door. I stayed very calm, but this whole thing lasted an hour of them badgering me about why I should do personal training. I don't know how I got out of there, but I immediately called their corporate office since the manager was the one that was acting so terribly towards me. They were shocked, but I have not heard anything and I doubt any action has been taken. So the best way to make sure that action is taken these days is social media. So please beware of LA Fitness in Denton, TX and watch out for the manager Iban. read more

Ugh. I don't even know where to begin with this place. Let's start with the staff. Most unprofessional, and downright rude employees I've ever encountered at a place of business. Not even so much as a greeting when entering or exiting. The trainers will literally hunt you down when you first sign up, in some awful attempt to borderline extort you into paying the ridiculous premium they charge for training. They don't even attempt to use a sales strategy on you. They just hound you, and eventually turn into rude, arrogant people after you've refused their services for the 12th time. MACHINES ALWAYS BROKEN!!! I cannot emphasize this enough. If you are a runner, DO NOT COME TO THIS GYM. They have probably 15 treadmills, and on average about 4-5 are working. The rest have been "scheduled for service" for the last 2 months. There are better gyms than this. Don't come here unless you absolutely have to. read more

Well, after visiting a Gold's Gym and feeling totally impressed through and through (I mean, this place knocked my socks off) I definitely had to knock off 2 more stars for L.A. "Fitness". This gym absolutely sucks. Hands down. I mean, I knew it was bad, but when I visited an all-around solid gym, I got just an idea of how horrible L.A.F. was. I am appalled. First off, comparatively, the machines/equipment don't stand a chance. Second, the staff at Gold's were incredible: Friendly, helpful, and smiling. Appropriate. Professional. Can the kids at L.A. Fitness not even pull off/friendly and professional??? I cannot tell you how many times the people at the front won't even make eye contact with you except for, on occasion, when I catch the airhead girls flirting with my husband -_- Pathetic. To add insult to injury, I have now been harassed at least 3 times in the last few months to purchase personal training sessions with their trainers. Hell to the NO! Why in the world would I want to actually work with you boneheads? You are repeatedly rude, incompetent, won't even let members use the "jelly" weights you keep tucked away (which every other gym I've frequented lets members actually use), but you harass me and insult me because I won't purchase your outrageously over-priced training sessions. Are you nuts? Unfortunately, there are no Gold's Gyms in Denton, or even nearby :( However, I will be transferring back to 24 Hour Fitness ASAP, when we do move. read more

I've been a member since 2012, starting at the Euless club and then moving here to Denton in 2014 for school. I'm usually in 4-5 days a week, and while I've no serious complaints against this gym, there are a handful of minor inconveniences that I deal with on a regular basis: -old and squeaky equipment (in particular, worn out and jerky belts on some of the row machines) -down time on broken equipment may range from a few days to a few weeks -the media player crashes on occasion, leaving the gym silent until it gets restarted -lack of attention to what should be quick fixes (the wall clock above the squat rack has been dead/non functioning for well over a month) -the basketball court has some pretty significant structural damage over by the windows. With all this being said, I still do my best to enjoy my workouts, and I've never had a poor experience with the staff. To sum up my thoughts- this gym as a whole is dated and is long overdue for a remodel. I experienced this firsthand when I visited the Euless club last Summer (what used to be a mirror image of the Denton club). My jaw hit the floor when I walked in to see a brand new interior, with brand new equipment, locker rooms, etc. I soon learned of some other locations around following suit and I immediately thought "why not Denton?" I understand that it's a massive financial decision and sacrifice, but I feel that this gym could benefit so much from a complete overhaul. Here's to hoping something like this may be in the future plans. Despite having a free membership to Planet Fitness due to some benefits at my work, I'm still content paying my monthly fee and working out here instead because I enjoy the luxury of free weights, benches, and racks. I have been a member for 3 years. I am not a fan of LA Fitness as a company. I do not like the haggling of memberships, the hard sells on getting a trainer, dirty facilities, broken equipment that doesn't get fixed, rude customer service, change in childcare staff regularly, unfriendly front staff. On the positive side L.A.F. has the same instructor that float from gym to gym. If you like an instructor you may be able to take a couple of classes a week with them following to other local LAF gyms. read more

This gym is consistently crowded and dirty, with broken machines. The people at the front desk/trainer desks are always talking loud like its some frat party. They have never said hi or goodbye to me , never acknowledging anyone when they check in. Probably because they are too busy on their phones or flirting. If you want to lift weights here, be prepared to wait. This gym is full of bros who do one set and the sit at the bench on their phones for the next 15 minutes. It's okay for cardio most of the time unless 4 treadmills are down like the last time I came here to run. The gym equipment is old, often breaks, and takes too long to repair. Many of the pieces that break (I.e. belts and cables) could be stocked and quickly replaced. Stair masters are often broken not to mention other equipment. Last year there was a rat that lived in the gym. It became a joke when we would see it run across the floor to a hole in the wall. I've switched over to the Frisco gym, where there is plenty of well functioning equipment in a clean environment. HUGE difference. I've been training at this gym for more than 5 years and each year nothing changes and it keeps getting worse. With the constant turnover in management, I have no faith that it will ever change. This gym needs a complete overhaul and modernizing 10/14/2018, once again 5:30am and the gym is still not open. Sleepy heads. Clearly these aren't reviews, they're just people whining about not getting their way and trying to get something for free...... This facility is BY FAR the best option in the area. 6/4/2018 - This is a follow up to my review. I have now sent three emails to the corporate office, spoken with two representative at member services, and spoken with the district manager. I've been promised follow up calls from three different individuals - none have been received. The district manager told me that he has to due his "due diligence". I understand due diligence when there aren't witnesses however, three club employees witnessed and corroborated both my written and verbal statement. So here we are, LA Fitness has chosen to do absolutely nothing to an employee for harassing and verbally attacking two patrons. Given the circumstances of this case, I have no reason to think any different. This is obviously a case of discrimination and will be dealt with as such. read more
