This LA fitness location needs a lot of work. The weights are unorganized or missing, and most of the machines are broken. I do like how big the location is, but most of the time it is very busy with a lot of people and with limited machines and equipment to work with, it is not worth joining this gym. There were people sitting on the weight rack and no one cleans after using machines. I got a guest pass to come in the mornings, but was not allowed to use it since they said the activation needed to be done by other staff that does not come in until later in the morning which was pointless to me, they should make a note that guest passes can't be used at certain times. read more

I was paying monthly for two kids to go to the kids club. Unfortunately i had to cancel it, and they said i should pay for the kids debit first, and i agreed with it. In such a big corporation , how is it possible that they run out of wipes? First of all, they took all the hand paper rolls that they had installed when the gym first opened and replace with wipes. Very very very crowded LA fitness at night. Majority of your time there is waiting for machines. Honestly I thought there would be more machines for strength training but I didn't see a lot of legs. Maybe they were blocked by large crowds? You can forget getting a squat rack people come in groups of 2-4 and hold machines for awhile. Then the atmosphere changed, Trainor was letting me know if I wanted any info, coaching, support, I'm on my own. This could be an A rated gym but unfortunately with the way it is currently being run it will never be. I give it two stars as it is a big gym and equipment is still newish. Let's start with the word Signature. I was recently stopped from entering the gym and told that since it was a Signature gym I was not allowed to use it (my original membership was previously purchased at another location). I was told I could either upgrade my membership or use a non signature club. The person at the front desk explained that Signature clubs had saunas, pools and towels. When I asked where the towels and sauna were I was told they are coming soon (based on previous reviews they have been selling this story for quite some time). I explained the club I joined had all those amenities when I signed and there was no way I was paying more just because they slapped the word Signature on a window. No one has since tried to stop me. Cleanliness is not next to godliness here. This gym is too big for just one person to clean. They need a minimum of at least 2 cleaning at all hours. Used paper towels on the floor. Mats can be just down right disgusting. Dust balls the size of rats. They moved the stair climbers not too long ago and there was a big thick black line from all the hair, sweat and dirt that had formed from never being cleaned. They had to bring in an industrial buffer to get it out. Just plain old who gives a sh*t. The alarm on the emergency door beeped for SIX MONTHS. Maybe if someone up front actually made their way to the back they would have heard it. Looking for a certain hand held weight? Good luck as you'll need to search the whole gym for it as at very best only 50% are put back on the rack and of that 50% maybe 1% is in the right spot. Once again, they should have an employee stationed at the rear of the gym to lay down the law about putting things away. People who designed it must not work out. Ever try to heave two 100 lb dumbells onto the second tier rack that is right against a mirror. You won't here, they just put them on the bottom rack where it is marked for the very light weights thereby throwing the whole set up off. They need to reverse the set up. I am not against bolting the benches to the floor but you take your life in hand trying to get a weight off the rack. Move the benches back 2 feet so people can get to the rack if someone is using the bench. Those huge windows up front. When the sun comes up you are completely blinded staring straight into it. GET SOME BLINDS. Take pride in the gym, it'll payoff in the near and long term (sorry for going on and on). read more

This is the crappiest LA fitness I've ever been too. The only reason I come is because it's on my way home from my office. No sauna plus barely any machines. The time I go also makes difficult to get any machines so I generally just winding up doing a circuit as I don't have time to wait for machines. Also, a bunch of high school kids just standing around which is fine we were all young once but I got things to do. I pay 42 a month plus I think 75 annual fee. read more

This is the worst gym to ever join. The weights are never ever in order, it's always dirty, the staff is all over the place. And a shame because the gym itself can be very good. When i first joined something went wrong with the way they did my credit card so i had been charged when i wasn't suppose to, then had to physically go in to fix it, A MESS. I joined and maybe went to this gym 5 times and found myself driving an extra 20 mins away to go to the gym i had still been a member at. I live not even 5 mins away from LA fitness so that tells you a lot! And now I've gone into this gym two times to cancel my membership in which the ONE employee who is able to assist is never in. Then i just now call to come in and to make sure this person is here in which they say yes she's here until 5, i walk in not even 5 mins later and she's out at lunch. And now I'm told to come back in an hour. So i come back in an hour and I've now been waiting 15 mins. THE WORST GYM YOU COULD EVER EVER EVER JOIN. I wish someone would have just told me not to join, what a waste of money I've spent on a gym i never wanted to go to. And now even cancelling is a mess! read more

Machines are constantly broken and gym has removed weight stack pins making using equipment a task. They make you put an item on hold to get a pin. Then the pin only fits certain machines. They gave one member a screw to use as a peg. Employees don't care what is going on. There are young children under 12 playing on the machines with no parental supervision. Tried to tell one employee about a broken machine but he didn't speak English. They can have people selling cloths in front near check in but can't maintain their equipment. Whoever the manager in charge of this place is needs to be fired. Hire someone who will actually do the job. When they are told of issues nothing gets resolved. read more

Where to begin with this gym. It's always warm inside, lights are dimmed mostly, fans aren't being utilized (saving money I guess?). The weights are always disorganized on the shelves or left throughout the gym. The machines usually have weights left on them so you have to unload someone else's and then put your own on. The staff is not friendly. Many times I will go in, scan my card, and watch as the staff allows other people (non-members?) to just walk right in, usually seems like a friend or someone they know. The equipment will be left broken for weeks at a time, without a replacement. There are sweat stains on most equipment. I did not see cleaning by the staff of the equipment since I've started going. Sometimes they'd clean the floors, but I have seen hair, paper towels, and more on the ground just sitting there. They've had multiple leaks throughout the years I've gone and they leave buckets for days at a time. The locker room is decent, sinks, mirrors, lockers, and benches. The water fountains throughout are left in the change filter status for months at a time. I would say the only reason they have anyone going here is that there aren't other options in the area. So for convenience people deal with all of this. Try canceling your membership, they will purposely ignore your calls and leave you ringing. They will answer and hang up instantly or answer and leave you on mute so you cannot get through. I was told twice that I could cancel by phone, and they stopped answering until I called from another number that they answered right away and told me I cannot cancel by phone and have to go in or mail in the form. I will update my review when I see how that goes too. Try finding another gym, even if it's slightly more expensive, I believe it's worth it! read more

Signed up for LA Fitness when they first opened in Clark. A year later moved to Newark and when I noticed they were opening an LA in Kearny I was beyond excited. Fast forward to now, huge disappointment. They keep beating around the bush about the sauna when we all know it won't happen. Place is massive with plenty of staff who care more about walking around dropping off flyers on machines and bullshitting with each other. How about re-racking the weights that are spread all over the place? Why is that you can be the first one at the gym early morning and it looks like a bomb when off in there? Does nobody care to walk around and clean it up? Organize it for the next day? Top 5 LA Fitness clubs in states for sign-ups.. I wonder why?????? I go to this gym every day because it's convenient and it does the job for $30 a month. But for FFS, at least one day can someone crack a smile at the front desk or say hello? The locker rooms smell like shit, 99% of the soap dispensers aren't filled, the paper towels are gone and the trash cans over flowing. I so badly want to love this gym and give it a better review, mainly because it's literally 6 minutes away from my house and the convenience is fantastic. It's just not the best gym. Mainly, I'll just never get over the staff when this gym first opened. Granted it was a new business and I understand it takes time to build up a good staff. These employees I spoke to when I first signed up are still working there now, a year later. When I initially signed up, the sauna was my selling point. I didn't even haggle on the price, like so many of my friends did. Didn't matter, they all got ripped off in the end anyway. The gym opens up, no sauna. They do have a pool, which is good. Jacuzzi always looks dirty whenever I pass by it. Now I'm just angry because I signed the contract thinking there was a sauna. They still have no plans on adding one in either. Again, 6 minutes from my house. I go to this gym solely because of the convenience. Theres a Retro Fitness about 15 minutes away from me but I still stuck with LA. I mainly use the pool, cardio machines and the aerobics room. (when it's not filled with 100 people doing zumba bumping into each other because the room isn't big enough) The pool I honestly cannot complain about. It's clean, theres plenty of room for towels and it's usually never too crowded. The cardio machines are good, theres a nice amount of them. Somehow I always see someone cleaning around them and mopping the floor but they're still always dirty. The locker room is a mess most of the time. With a 30 dollar membership I definitely expected more. Overall, it's not a bad gym. It's not the best but again the 6 minute drive there makes all the difference for me. If you live in the area and are as lazy as I am to drive during rush hour to a gym, this is an ok option. read more

Normally a fan of La fitness and all the amenities they offer for such a reasonable monthly price. Just recently moved to the Kearny/Harrison area, so I assumed the gym would be a carbon copy of the La Fitness in Clark that I used to frequent. Too my surprise, the Kearny gym has a plethora of unaddressed problems; fix the machines in a timely manner, clean your locker rooms and mats from time to time, have pins for your machines (currently 20 or so machines cannot be used), arrange the free weights it's almost impossible to find the right weight. It seems as if the staff and leadership, could care less about the customer experience at this location. How does your front end staff show such disinterest in doing their jobs. Try to smile and greet people coming in, Its just as easy as letting your friends in for free. read more

It's as mediocre as mediocre gets. I know those reviews suck bc they don't really tell you to run away or to come right away but that's honestly the best wAy to describe this place. It's usually pretty packed, the hours should be better and the customer service is ok at best. They always have some people in the front selling random things at a table. Once it was food like they actually had trays of food they were sampling. Once it was pots and pans. It's all different stuff and always weird and doesn't really belong. I hate going into a place that I pay for and have them try to sell me something else. It's pretty annoying. The good part is they do have a pool which is nice, it's a large gym and they have a lot of classes that they offer. I like the layout of this gym. The equipment is spaced out. When there is a lot of people I don't feel crowded or smell the sour stinky of people's BO. I didn't see a juice bar. I usually don't get anything but when I did work out here I felt I needed it. The temperature is not cool enough inside or the fan is not circulating the air efficiently. Boo boo used a guest pass here and the guys will hold on to your license and pressure you to join. They make it feel like they are doing us a favor to join. Although other gyms are cheaper with less amenities, they could not get Boo Boo to join with my $37/month rate (with tax). I would wait for the summer to join. I think deals during those months are cost effective. So far the bathroom is clean and the bars a greased so plates slide in and out with ease. This is gym is literally so dirty that it looks pet friendly because of how disgusting the floors are. The weights are literally all over the place and mirrors are always filthy. It looks like they do not hire anyone to help maintain the gym. I understand it may me the customers but if you see that its a problem you have to hire more people to clean up the gym and maintain it clean. The customer service is also horrible, the girl over the phone was very respectful but the outcome of the call lead to just being a waste of time. I tried to talk to manager to cancel my membership and the terrible manager with no leadership skills or pride in the management of the Kearny LA Fitness gym would not even take the call. The locker rooms stink like a dirty mop every time I go in there. I notified the front desk 3 different times about the stinky mop smell. I stopped going but they continued to charge me monthly 21.00 I didn't care too much about that but then today they charged me $21 and $49 on the same day. When I called and asked them what the charge was for the woman stated that it is a yearly fee. I said it is too much right now and can she defer the payment for 2 weeks until I get paid and she said no the computer doesn't allow3 us to refund charges after they have been made. Don't go to this gym!!! they will make unauthorized bills to your account and then make excuses as to what they are for. They will not admit a mistake or refund a charge. I honestly don't have much to say as this was my first time in this gym as a "guest". We got there around 3:30pm and I was shocked that it wasn't that crowded given that it was Sunday, I mean I don't know much about big gyms, since my workouts are normally done at home or at the office gym which is a small one. The equipment seemed pretty good to me, I sort of did not like one or the staff members walking around then approaching me and my friend and say "I can train you, you wanna be fit?", my friend went ahead and said "no need for that, I trained for the NPC and I'm a judge as well", lol he turned around and left. I'm not going to lie, he was helpful after though, he gave us some information about the gym so we really appreciate that. We honestly didn't have any complaints at all, BUT I think she should take care of their locker room and restroom, they were not clean and the floors were dirty. That's all I have to say. read more
