My workout always goes great. The only issues I have are: - It's no longer 24/7 - The no longer have the 30 minute workout room - When I have to go after work it's so crowded that yo if you're going after work hours be prepared to wait for a machine because it's super crowded - People are not wiping the machine down or at least the seat when they're done. read more

Planet Fitness commits FRAUD.... I live in California & have a membership with planet fitness. While checking my bank statement, planet fitness charged my account twice in April & May for a different amount. I called the California facility in regard to this matter & found out that a planet fitness in New Jersey use my account for someone I don't even know. I called the New Jersey planet fitness & 1st I was told no manager was on the premises, then I would receive a call back from the regional manager. It has been 7 days with no call back or results for this matter. I also made another call to the facility yesterday & the same female told me that " no manager was on site" again. Then all of a sudden another woman gets on the phone & stated she was the manager but could not assist me. She would not provide me the regional manager email or phone number. Then she hung up in my face. I feel like it's a inside job & they know it. Why keep brushing me off? Someone needs to refund me my money no matter what. I signed back up thinking maybe the problem I had was a one off but it's still the same. Spoke to management about the conditions and nothing was done. Paper towel dispenser was not refilled around the gym/locker room, missing sanitizing spray, waiting for keyfob for parking and was never provided. Wasted money on the initial sign up fee and the monthly membership fee and they never even credited my account or any kind of consolation for spending time to speak to them about it. So I decided to rejoin the gym a year and change later, after I discovered that they were able to make a deal with the parking situation. Long story short, got charged $13.00 yesterday, because they claimed that from 0900 to 1700, parking is free. I checked into the gym at 436, and checked out at like 556. They claim that because I passed the one hour that I was charged the $13.00 for parking. Spoke to one of the assistant managers, and he explained the situation. Didn't offer to give any type of refund or credit to compensate for the fact that they did not disclose this prior to me signing up. Anyway, I will take the hit this time. But if this happens again, I will find another gym. read more

Here's a couple of tips for PF Newark: 1) the parking lot could only be used if your home gym is PF Newark. You can only park there for only 1-2 hours depending on the time you go. I go during the week after 5pm which is when you can park for 2 hours max. 2) there is street parking but VERY limited. There's usually spaces later in the day. 3) locker rooms are located on the bottom floor where there are more machines 4) they have good drink selections (monster, bang, propel, etc.) 5) stretching area is usually crowded 6) during rush hour it's busy around the PF 7) locker rooms are always clean The PF in Belleville use to be my home gym but I switched to Newark since it's closer to my home. Belleville was actually more crowded than Newark; they do have more machines but the stretching/weight lifting areas are always crowded! PF Newark is good enough for me it gets the job done. read more

This is a really nice location, very clean, with brand new machines. It's got that new car smell, so much nicer than the funk at the Wall Street location. The tanning bed and standup tanning booth are top quality, very nice. My only issue at this location is there is no parking. You have to park at the IDT lot and it's $9. That's not convenient at all. When I started coming to this location, I loved how diverse it is and customer service tend to be neutral or great. I'm giving this three stars because I frequently see couples making out at the basement area of the gym, which is highly uncomfortable and clearly visible to everyone. Planet Fitness is a place to workout, not a place to show intimacy. Also, I do not like the fact that sometimes people are sitting down at the equipments either waiting to use another equipment or just hanging around instead of actually using the equipment. Although I do ask people are they using them, it is annoying to those who is either shy or don't like to talk to anyone. Other than that, I'm glad that I am able to work out peacefully without being unnecessarily bothered or interrupted by anyone. read more

The workers are really very nice and professional. however I can't say same for management, when it's time to replace and or repair, issues either do not get resolved or takes forever to get done. I have made numerous reports regarding a broken machine -and there are a few- for more than two months ....nothing . I don't care much for the gym but it's better than nothing. I prefer retro but it's not as convenient to me. I also noticed that the desk people's highlight is tilting the scanner when you scan in then telling you that your set, like if they didn't tilt it you wouldn't be able to scan. So fresh and so clean clean. Brand new planet fitness in the middle of downtown newark. I really enjoy going to this location, looks can be deceiving because it's much bigger than you think (it's 2 floors). I enjoy working out here a lot mainly bc it's so clean and new. The staff is somewhat friendly, not always but I come to work out not hangout. Their massage chairs and tanning booths always work, super new so very clean. This location offers all the basic amenities of planet fitnesses such as stretch room, 30min work out room and the abs section. Come first Tuesday of the month for free pizza! Ised.toxthink it was a great place to work out..clean, great hours however with Covid and re opening of gyms, discovered they have been charging my credit card for monthly fees, etc. So shady! So just because they are open, they feel that they can charge your credit card regardless of you actually using it because of a pandemic still currently going on..and they didn't even have the courtesy to actually see if members were still able to pay or even use their facilities. Total lack of consideration and pure greed! I will be disputing the past 6 months of charges and will NEVER recommend or set foot in another Planet Fitness anywhere. Nothing but crooks! I have had the WORST experience of my life with Planet Fitness. First, I never had an issue with PF In the many years I've done with business with them. Back in 9/2020 I had called to cancel my acct due to the pandemic. Long story short it was not completed the first time around. Called a second time to get things done on 11/2020 after I was charged even after my acct was frozen in September. Spoke with management several time to get things done but that alone was a hassle to get someone to help you and get it right the first time around. Recently on 1/18/2021 I was charged yet again after my account was "supposed" to be frozen for 3 months until 3/2021. I found myself going to the gym today to get an explanation. I just got another excuse as to why it was not done so I ended up closing my account. The reason for this was because I had called them numerous times to get this fixed and it still was not fixed. On top of that I was promised a full refund for the months I was charged but did I get a refund? NO! No empathy was shown from this branch location. Very unprofessional staff which I have never had to with this type of nonsense. Now I'm demanding my account gets fully refunded or I will sue this branch!!!! Good day! read more

So, let me say this much (at Planet Fitness, if you're reading this), you were THIS close to losing that last star because (I know you guessed it) your P A R K I N G situation. Literally, like w t f... so, let me/us be fair and say this, Newark is a major metropolitan city and parking in AnY metropolitan city is always Prime. HoWeVeR... here's my major problem... why is your free parking for Newark home gym members ONLY??? #selfish...matter of fact...sorry, I just removed a star...lol #notlol I am a black card member and I pay extra in order to go to any gym, so why won't all the perks of each gym apply to me?? again, wtf I again understand that we are in a major city, but that parking situation is ASS and y'all need to fix that ASAP. That being said...there area few work arounds...first, and maybe the most complex, cancel your current membership and become a black card member of the Newark gym. I know, I know why do we have to do all that just to get parking. Second, and most risky, park on the street by the gym. Technically, it's no parking so you run the risk of getting ticketed, however, I never been so I don't know if they stop checking after a certain point (I usually go after 9:00pm). Regardless, their parking situation is PURE ASS and needs IMMEDIATE improvement! Lastly, there IS parking around the streets of the gym, I suppose that means you run the risk of getting your car broken into, but again - to be fair - I have parked in the area before and had no problems AND it is a pretty busy and well lighted area so that does bring the chances of that happening down. Either way, parking is still a dice roll. So0o, with that rant over, lets talk about the excellence of this gym... What made me Want to give this place 5 stars is it's multi-gym level; it has TWO floors! Which means I'm never waiting for machines and I can workout is a nice big open area; so nice!!! I never had an problems with staff - expect parking (not to go back to that, but I was totally told ALL sort of things by different staff). I never had an problems with security, but I do bring a good lock for locker - regardless of where I go. I absolutely LOVE the shower set-up, tucked away in the back, and not front and center (like A LOT of other gyms... the one in Elizabeth is weird cause it's right there pretty much in the bathroom area, lol... Linden is a little better, but as soon as you step out the shower, the bathroom area is right there #ugh...nothing like stepping out the shower and seeing some guy pee-ing #ewww lol). It would be nice if there was a bench or something to rest things on (one thing I like about Elizabeth gym). All-in-all, get the home membership here so you can use some of the free parking, enjoy the open gym and great space of the gym, and workout! read more

PARKING AT PLANET FITNESS NEWARK Prior to signing up, I asked specific questions about parking in the IDT lot (where parking is provided for members). I spoke with Michael who told me when I visited at (8 pm) that parking was free for one hour. He explained that during late night hours (in the midnight hours) that a Planet Fitness employee will let you out. I signed up because the parking seemed taken care of. Today, I went to the gym and parked in the lot (7 am). I took the ticket provided by the parking lot machine. I stayed for 50 minutes. When leaving, I stopped by the desk to get my ticket validated, which consists of them handwriting on your ticket. I asked what to do with the ticket now that it was written on. Michael (who was at the desk this morning) said to give it to them. I went to the garage and realized that there was no attendant to give it to, as the office was still closed. I went back to the gym and I let Michael know that no one was there. His response was to put it into the machine in order to get out. I asked him if he was sure about that and he said "Yes". [QUESTION...HOW DOES A PARKING TICKET MACHINE VALIDATE A HANDWRITTEN "AUTHORIZATION" TO WAIVE A FEE?] I walk back to get my car, submit the ticket and GUESS WHAT??? I had to pay to get my car out!!! I then park on the street, go back into the club and let Michael know that I had to pay to get my car out and he immediately blamed me for being over an hour. I told him that I was under an hour. He then tells me that someone from the gym can let me out. Clearly, he wanted to get rid of me and my problem because he didn't hear anything I said. [QUESTION...WHY WAS THAT OPTION NOT GIVEN TO WHEN I WENT BACK TO THE GYM TO LET HIM KNOW THAT NO PARKING ATTENDANT WAS THERE???] He then pointed me to an employee who was returning from letting someone out of the lot (who by the way was leaving when I came back to let Michael know that no one was in the lot to take my ticket) and explained the situation. She gave me a somewhat clouded explanation of what should have happened but could not offer a resolution for refunding my parking fee. I essentially had to eat $9 because I followed the directions of the Planet Fitness staff, who pass the buck and offer no solution. Planet Fitness says repeatedly on their advertisement that they have a 'NO COMMITMENT' POLICY. But I was charged a membership fee of $41.48 and when I ask to cancel I was asked to pay $50.00 plus they will take my monthly fee of $24.00. How is this NO COMMITMENT? Damn Crooks!! read more

On my visit today, your staff person Milton or Hilton (I could not read name tag well because he had it clipped in the area over his penis) felt it appropriate to confront me while I was relaxing on the hydro lounge with my guest following our workout, about a conversation I had with your staff person Elliot about use of the hydro lounge for myself and my guest. Milton / Hilton had left the desk area and staff that were there were just starting their shift and had NO prior knowledge of any previous issues -- I advised them to check with their colleagues who they were relieving. This confrontation escalated to a louder verbal altercation where he proceeded to say to me "so what, nigga" during our exchange inside the club right at the desk, despite the fact that I Am the customer and never called him out his name. In addition to my guest, your personnel Elliot and Christie also witnessed this. Unfortunately Milton /Hilton felt his behavior was appropriate because he was clocked out (which at 1st he said he was not, when I asked him to get away from me). He accused me of lying on him to his colleagues and when I said he failed to thoroughly explain the policy for guest use of massage machines, he said I should have asked more questions. I believe this encounter was his unique way of tendering his resignation. Prayerfully, you (Mr. Isaiah Wilson, manager) will agree. I wish I can leave this place zero stars. The only reason they get the star I am leaving is because the hydro massage chair was immaculate and I was able to get a pretty good work out. But for this to have been my first time utilizing this facility, my experience wasn't great at all. The employees can definitely use some more training when it comes to customer service. Ironically, they say the company strives on providing great customer service, this location must be exempt from doing so. I have never witnessed an employee of any establishment literally get into a verbal altercation with a customer. As a man he should've been ashamed with how he spoke to that young women. I assumed by how he kept shouting about how we off the clock he was intending for it to be permanently. The staff was so incredibly rude this morning at 5:50 am, I did not have my tag so they could not locate in me in their system, but I know for a fact that I have been looked up before with no problem, so even after I called my home gym in NYC they still supposedly could not locate my membership, so I could not work out this morning, I had to go all the way back home, because the staff was rude....I am very angry at this type of inconvenience I pay for the Black membership so I can freely workout at location convenient to my location..... the Newark location is very close to transit is the only reason I would go to this location, i promise as soon as BLINK opens I am cancelling my membership!!!! read more

The place is nice to the money you spend. Of course you get what you paid for. Also there was not many machines like LA fitness. There were a lot of people there during the weekend when I was there. They had a nice clean area too. The restroom was clean too which was a plus. read more

Today I came into the gym. My workout was great, but when I attempted to exit the parking garage my planet fitness card would not work as it scanned and beeped to signal the gate to open but the gate still would not respond. No biggie. So I went inside to speak with the desk attendant and was assured help would be on the way from another employee and that this sometimes happens when you just get a new card (NOTE: I started my membership about 10 days ago). So I sit in my car at the gate for about 10 minutes. Nothing happens, no one comes. I had a feeling, however, that this would happen and I kindly reminded the attendant "not to live me hanging". I walk back in and there are two employees. The desk attendant, who is busy with a member, and another casually breaking up quarters. I tell her that I've been waiting for some time. She then peppers me with skeptical questions about whether im a member and whether this is my home gym (yes to both), she then begrudgingly walks with me outside and tells me that I probably have been scanning it into the wrong machine (I wasnt and showed her). She remarks oh! I guess this is just how we (as employees of PF) get in and out. So finally she lets me out and I go on my way. I know this is a rather light-hearted description, but it was sortve a rude exchange by the employee and I would appreciate that the gym take lengths to explain to attendants that the key card may not always work and to be patient with members. The gym itself is nice. Has all the machines to get the job done plus you can't beat the price. My issue is the staff. Just because we are in Newark doesn't mean it has to be ghetto!!!! I come in to claim my tag because I joined online and needed a tour as well. First, I walk up to the desk and the guy was so focused on his cell he didn't acknowledge me until I cleared my throat. He assisted me with registering a tag, handed it to me, pointed to the back area for the locker rooms and showers if I needed to change, and turned his back to me. Very unprofessional. I had to ask him for information that should be provided to a newbie, such as.... when is a trainer available? Is there an additional level? Where exactly are the showers and lockers? What about the parking?.... etc..... He almost seemed pissed off as if I was disturbing him. Not a good first impression for this gym. I mean I'm going to keep going and figure everything out for myself so I don't have to be bothered with the unwelcoming attitudes because at the end of the day it is a decent gym and gets the job done. read more

I activated my membership 8/11/18 and on 8/12/18 my locker was broken into! I checked I'm at 7pm, finished by 845pm. All my cash was taken, luckily my id and cards were still there. Management needs to look into these things ASAP! read more

I don't usually do these but I was absolutely disgusted with the service I received. I went into this location today to cancel my membership. When I walked up to the counter one of the employees attempted to badge me in. I told her I wanted to cancel and she told her co-worker that I was there for a cancellation. The other employee then yelled, "Anyone who wants to cancel their membership come to this line" as he pointed. When I went to his line, he was taking care of another guest who was also canceling. He was very distracted while servicing the guest before me, answering a FaceTime and then walking away in the middle of helping to prop his phone up so the caller could see him. He came back to the counter to finish the cancellation and handed it over to the girl I first spoke to. She finished the cancel and started to help me. In the process, she let me know that although I would be canceling, I would still be charged the annual fee. I asked her why that would be the case and she told me it was in the contract I signed. She then went on to tell me that I am unable to freeze my account if its not medically related, to which I responded "I'm not freezing my account, I'm canceling." She then said whether I'm freezing or canceling its all the same policy. She the became very upset I would not disclose the reason for cancellation. With how the interaction has been to this point, I tell the girl very calmly that she is not very friendly. She then lets me know that she's actually one of the nicest people here and she's never gotten that before. I let her know that's how I felt based on our conversation this far, and she became even nastier with me. I asked the girl for her name and she ripped her name tag off telling me that she did not have to provide her name. She then handed me off to another employee to finish my cancellation. I asked the person she handed me to her name and he remained silent after she told him not to provide me her name. I asked if there was a manager present, of course the answer was no. I then saw another employee, walked up to him to ask her name and she yelled to him not to provide me her name. He told me he actually didn't remember her name and I responded that they all were full of it. My cancellation was finalized and I requested to get a copy of the cancellation. The girl then tells me she can't provide it until the email attached to my account was given. In the process of providing my email, the guy who canceled my membership gave me the receipt for the cancellation. I then said " So an email address was not needed for the receipt" and I left. As I looked over the receipt, I noticed the name of the girl who initially helped me and refused to provide her name. I will be making a formal complaint about her. Word to the wise: If your going to be disgusting and make it clear you don't have to provide your name to a guest where you are employed, make sure the cancellation receipt doesn't have your name either! read more
