I've been a member for more than 10 yrs. This location at Settlers Ridge has had a/c problems numerous times. The group instructional room has had a/c for months now. We've questioned the lack of a/c but keep getting vague answers. It feels like 100 degrees with 100% humidity. The fans offer minimal relief. Some of us wear personal fans around our necks. So today, when I go to cancel, instead of asking why, where I would have answered a, every few weeks no one shows to open, b, the shower and locker room is disgustingly dirty. What can I say? I joined, and since October, at the LA Fitness Robinson, it has been an experience that is cringeworthy, to say the least. Barely any classes offered, and when they do offer them, I'm at work. This kills me about Pittsburgh and helps me understand why businesses open and close with alarming speed out here. People usually work from about 8 in the morning till 6 in the evening and they offer classes at 5:45..., close early, and want to charge fees that would elude to getting your money's worth.... The people who work there....I had a situation, and although I was paying my monthly fee, which is electronically pulled, I was unable to use the gym. Driving back and forth day to day and being told they couldn't see my membership and then blank looks, not offering to try and fix it immediately and then looks of indignation because I'm trying to resolve the issue! Uhhhhh, I'm paying for membership! I need a gym that is going to be open, offer a variety of classes, and makes me feel welcome when I walk in the door. Period. read more

I like the overall gym and the personal trainer (Garrett is terrific!), but I am so angry right now. I purchased an introductory Pilates membership, with the promise that I could cancel within 2 weeks and get my money back. The first class was on March 31, and today is April 9. The person at the front desk told me I was too late to get my money back. I told him I was told I had 2 weeks. He said, "No, it was 10 days." This is not what I was told, and even if it was 10 days, how is today not the 10th day? I asked for a main number to call, and he said, "I can't give that out." Really?!!!!! read more

I want to specifically review the Master Trainer Colton Rossi located at the LA Fitness Settlers Ridge facility in Pittsburgh, PA. I have been a member here since 2016 and have been doing Ono-on-one HIIT workouts with Colton for the last 6 months. Colton is an incredible trainer who continually pushes you up to and sometimes past what you believe are your limits. If you are looking for a serious workout, I would highly recommend Colton. I'd leave no stars if possible.. pools been closed for going on 4 months and now they are closing it permanently due to lack of usage yet every time I go to get a swim in after my workout I'm forced to wait for a lane to open. Two years ago I was in the hot tub and a man inappropriately touched me. I complained to a staff member and asked to speak with the person in charge. She was not in at the time but called and said to me "the lifeguard there said that's not what happened". Yes there was a lifeguard on duty but he was no where near the hot tub to see what happened. I find it very disturbing that staff members at this facility do not take sexual assault seriously. Oh and by the way, I did file a police report. New member here -absolutely love the Settlers Ridge location. I am a very picky person with cleanliness and this facility is impeccable. They have a fabulous cleaning staff working around the clock cleaning the entire place (from top to bottom). My germ fears which generally hold me back from joining and remaining at a gym do not exist here. The sales and front desk folks are very kind and nice and make you feel very welcome. I only would recommend cooling the place off a bit near the treadmills -it seems a bit hot even in the winter. Excited to get back into shape and venture out of my house! This is your typical ordinary fitness center with a wide variety of free weights and machines to pump up those muscles. I will credit them with the fact they have a huge amount of workout and cardio equipment, the trick is to go when it's not busy otherwise you'll either wait or alter your routine. They have a nice pool and decent locker room as well as a good variety of classes to attend. Again the trick is to find the right class that will cater to your sked which can be difficult. Overall this is a standard fitness center that will accomplish what you're looking for here. You won't be bothered by fitness staff as they are busy doing one on one training and to be honest i don't think they'd be willing to help. You're on your own here so lift at your risk. You can't be the monthly rate unless you have a home gym or work gym. read more

LA Fitness in Robinson is your average chain gym. If you come at popular times there is a chance that you will have to wait for equipment. I mainly use the gym for the group fitness classes. Sonja is the best instructor at the gym & one of the reasons I've had my gym membership so long. The overal gym is clean but could use some attention. The mirror inside the group fitness class room has been broken for months, there is only 1 fan that is very dirty & the clock is broken. When asked the front desk for more fans they advised us to bring in our own ..... like this is why we have a membership. Overall a decent place to workout. read more

Based on reviews of this and other LA Fitness locations in the greater Pittsburgh area, it appears the lack of cleanliness for this gym is the norm for the LA Fitness brand. A snapshot of this morning's visit to the Settlers Ridge location revealed a lack of sanitizer bottles to clean off equipment, no hand sanitizer in the dispensers, baby power and trash on the floor of the men's locker room, and discarded underwear in the shower. At some point, this turns into a health hazard when we're considering the never-ending pandemic and someone in management better step up. Not a bad facility, as long as you don't mind cleaning up after other members and staff. 'Personal Trainer' Michael especially has appaling gym etiquette. He will lead his clients through a dozen pieces of equipment, not once touching a wipe or sanitizer. When confronted about his disgusting and dangerous conduct, he simply said 'I don't got time for that'. I guess because he's been there 5 years, he is special and exempt from basic human decency during this pandemic. Learn from my mistake, do NOT sign up for Personal Training. I have been cancelled on three times so far in the last two months. One time I was cancelled on in person because the trainer wanted to make a sale instead of honoring my appointment. Not only that, but they have lost a lot of personal trainers, and can no longer offer me any times that work for me. Now, the only times they can offer are when I work during the day. I've asked multiple times for them to cancel my personal training contract due to them not being able to provide the service, but I often do not get a response at all. The rare times I do, I'm told I have to pay 50% of my remaining balance, which was not explained when I signed up. I shouldn't have to pay for a service that LA Fitness cannot provide. Again, learn from my mistake, do not sign up for personal training. They trap you in a contract and then do not provide you with the service anyway. But then they already got you, and just continue to charge. read more

First of one thing that is very annoying is the pool is ALWAYS closed. It's either closed for "renovations" or the hours they have. I will say when you walk in it's very nice people say it's dirty but it's honestly very clean for a gym specially the locker rooms. Some people who go here are weird i've gotten looks from a lot of men which is kinda to except but i would like to feel a little more comfortable. They do have this big room i usually do my workouts in there because barley anyone is in there. The Robinson location has truly become one of the worst LA fitnesses in the Pittsburgh area! Especially the upkeep of equipment, locker room, and maintenance! The cardio room has 0 ventilation or air circulatio. Not 1 fan. It gets so hot in there that the floors become wet with humidity. The mens locker/showers are horrible. 10 showers and no matter what time of day you go you are lucky to find 1-2 that have warm water, let alone constant hot water. . Then you find that if you have 1 out of 10 that does have warm water, 9 times out of 10, the soap dispenser is broke or the handle falls off. Floors and shower's are moldy and the smell of mold hits you as soon as you walk in the locker room. I have frequented this location for many years because it's close. However the upkeep and disrespect of upkeep shows this facility could care less about its members! I only gave 2 stars due to its location! read more

I have had a gym membership here at the Robinson location for about 3 months now. Before, I was making a transition from Planet Fitness to LA. I'm sure some of you have gone through this as well when you hit a wall in your fitness journey. That's how I felt at PF, so I knew I needed a change. I began to look at the Robinson location closest to my home. It didn't take me very long to come to a decision. At the time there was a promotional going on for $0 down and all I needed to pay up front was my 1st and last months monthly fee. Once I got my membership set up it was finally time to hit the gym! First thing you notice coming in is all the cardio machines; treadmills, bikes and ellipticals were on the bottom floor. Along with a studio room w/ punching bags, and a spinning class room. Of course the pool as well. Then when you head upstairs are all the weights and lifting machines. Overall, a pretty big gym which took me some time to get used to where everything was and getting the most out of my workouts. Fast forward to now, I really enjoy this location LA. The staff is nice and courteous. The equipment is well kept and clean, along with the locker rooms and sauna area. If you are like myself, and you are looking to take your fitness to the next level, it's time to head down to LA Fitness and start taking advantage of the many amenities they have to offer. SPIN classes are excellent - except when there is no teacher so be sure to keep an eye on the schedule in the app - they cancel classes more frequently here than other locations. But the instructors are great, cycle room has great bikes, awesome sound, and plenty of room during the week. It is more of a challenge to lift free weights at this location because early in the morning and after 6 pm it is crowded. As with all LA Fitness locations it is not very clean, but staff is super friendly and helpful. read more

LA Fitness is great place to workout and achieve your personal fitness goals. Cardio, Personal Training, Basketball Courts, Free and Stationary Weights plus a swimming pool to boot. What more could you want or need. This location has some of the most friendly staff members I have encountered throughout my many travels. I give this gym and their staff an A plus. Ask for Blake, Mark or Brian for your membership needs and if your up for some serious training, Pete will ensure your goals and needs are met by placing you with the right trainer. I'm in this LA fitness right now. I have been in many all over the country and this is by far my least favorite. Upon entering you can smell everyone that has worked out for the past 2 weeks and I don't know why. No air filtration? Who knows. The machines are always broken, the treadmills are BAD, and the staff/trainers aren't the kindest (although I do understand that they have goals and such to make so I don't fault them). Although I am 160lbs of (almost) solid muscle and a trainer told me I wouldn't reach my goals without him.... that was a STRETCH. Anyways, I don't ever come here unless I'm nearby and just want to get my workout done with. Otherwise I drive the few extra miles to the Bridgeville one because it's so much better. read more

My first experience back at LA Fitness Settler's Ridge was the young gentleman at the front desk with his mask on BELOW HIS NOSE, therefore serving absolutely no purpose. This is in complete violation of the guidelines posted ALL over their gym. My experience continued to get worse as I walked into the gym. Over 80% of the members where either wearing the masks below their nose or NOT WEARING THEM AT ALL. I am extremely disappointed in the complete disregard for the safety of the guests and the lack of enforcement of safety procedures. I will be cancelling my membership and not returning. read more

Refill the paper towel dispensers. Come on. Every day at least 1 of the 3 paper towel dispensers is empty. Doesn't anyone do a lap around once an hour or anything to check on this stuff? Nobody wipes anything down cause there's no paper towels. read more

This is probably the worst LA Fitness in Pittsburgh. How do you run out of toilet paper at 6AM? There is garbage everywhere as if no one cleaned in days/weeks. The basketball court is always slippery. It seems like they never got to cleaning these floors. I've been here multiple times over the last couple years, and it's been the same. I guess if you only come to weight lift and do cardio, it's fine. But, that I still find this gym always tremendously dirty. read more

Like a lot of businesses in the service sector, it seems that can't find workers to keep it clean or fix the stuff when it brakes. The left speaker in the spinning room has not worked in years and the floor has not been mopped in months. This place is a prime example of overselling your membership! Since I'm a member of the LA Fitness "family" I'm able to visit any of the locations. Pretty cool, right? Not this one my friends. I had a meeting around this part of town so I figured I'd check this one out. I arrived around 4pm "thinking" I would beat the after work crowd. Apparently people get out of work at 3pm and beyond because it was PACKED! I had to wait for an elliptical for 20 minutes! At 4pm! There were only around 10 elliptical machines in what I figured has to be a pretty massive space. We've all been around the gym block once or twice before, you know it's a popular machine, why don't you stock up on more and get rid of less popular ones? When I left there was a line of at least 10 people deep for the treadmills. It was like they were lined up for an amusement park ride. No thanks! I'd get more of a work out walking from one end of Kennywood to the next...and maybe kill some potato path fries before I waited in line for over half an hour on a treadmill. New Years is over, this is the real start of the gym year...so stop selling memberships with a full house! read more

Absolutely filthy gym. Machines caked with dirt. No extra cleaning, or even basic cleaning, of the machines, even with the pandemic. When they shut down the gym last year due to Covid, I thought they would've cleaned things really well during the down time. Upon re-opening, I went back and there were still thick layers of dirt on everything so I have no faith in them sanitizing anything. read more

I have been attending this gym for over 3 years now. I was able to join without any new member fee's through my employer. So for 30 dollars a month, it's good enough. The cleaning at this place is very poor. Often times the trash if full, and you have to search for paper towels to clean off anything. Maybe spend more money on cleaning staff and less on membership services? The locker rooms are cluttered and the sauna is never cleaned. The gym gets so over packed. Sure, any gym gets packed after the New Years but membership should most definitely have a cap. You totally screw over your long time patrons by over crowding. The 20-30 minute time limit on cardio is just stupid. Have you heard of progress? People who have been paying for your gym for years can't run for more than 30 minutes during peak because of your silly rule. Try this... more treadmills less restrictions. I was in Pittsburgh for a long weekend and visited this gym three times to keep up my workouts. One of the perks of LA Fitness is that they have so many locations around the country that when you travel you can frequently find one and get in for free on your membership. I don't quite understand the negative reviews here as I did not find this gym to be at all dirty or poorly maintained. I have been to several LA Fitness locations in the Atlanta area and also one in the Los Angeles area, and this location in Pittsburgh compares favorably. The layout is a little different from most I have been to, with all the cardio equipment on the ground floor and the weights on the second floor. The cardio equipment is a little more up to date than what I have at most of the Atlanta locations I go to, with individual TV screens on the machines. It seemed fairly spacious to me and well maintained. The locker area was clean and the lockers were large. It was not at all crowded on the weekend when I was there. The only problem I had was that the pool has different hours from the gym. I got there one day in the late afternoon. They gym was open until 8 PM, I believe, but the pool had already closed somewhere around 4 or 5 PM, and I really wanted to swim. Not sure why they close the pool early here. I had been in the pool the day before -- they only negative is that the water was very much on the cool side. This makes it good for vigorous lap swimming, but takes a little endurance to get use to. read more

Hello clean gym!! I have been going to this gym for a few years and they do a great job of keeping it clean. They just did Remodleing/update this summer (2016) equipment is up to date, friendly staff, and there is no additional cost for the classes! Personal training is available for additional cost. This gym has a cycling room, workout room, treadmills, ellipticals, stairmaster, sauna, pool, free weights and a bunch of weight lifting equipment, they also have courts in the upstairs. I'd like to give this 2.5 stars. I'm a forced newcomer to the LA Fitness community after LA Fitness bought Urban Active. While I'm pretty happy to now have more gym locations open to me, I maintain that the Urban Active location in Bakery Square is still the best. My biggest gripe so far (I might be spoiled by UA) is the lack of women-friendly weight sections. (Perhaps I'm playing too much into a stereotype, but I like to use weights that are smaller than 8 lbs, like to incorporate the ball, the bosu, a mat, and those stretch bands into my workout, none of which are found in the primary weight section. I also am slightly uncomfortable working out with my 5 lbs weights next to a guy bench-pressing 140. Anyhow...while these items are available, they can be found accompanying one little weight set in some random corner. But this corner is without mirrors. Seriously? Women like to make sure their form is right when using weights (or lunges, or squats...or ANYTHING!) too...I rely heavily on mirrors. I'm not asking for a women's only room like UA (which I LOVE!), but a little more effort, please. A smaller gripe is the lack of availability and easily-accessible ways to wipe your machine off, and when you are done (and adequate signage to indicated that this is expected behavior). You are just asking for a MRSA infection. Ew, ew, ew. Positives? I like that treadmills have ipod chargers and that there are free lockers for small items. read more

Dirtiest gym ever! My home gym is in Dallas. Most of those locations around DFW are decent but this location is horrible! Old, rickety treadmills and stair masters, worn out treadmill belts. The cleaners don't know how to clean properly. The guy cleaning was cleaning the body of the machines and didn't touch any of the handles or screens...the part of the machines that we touch the most. Gum was stuck in a few of the cup holders. Seriously gym-goers, that's just disgusting! And also shameful on the gym staff for not cleaning it up as well. I was tempted to cancel my Equinox fitness membership bc of the price but now I see why I pay so much and couldn't be more pleased with those gyms, regardless of the location read more

I normally have gone to the South Side Works and Monroeville LA Fitness locations in the past, but as I will be traveling west of the city a lot with my new job, I decided to give the Settlers Ridge location a try! I got to the gym around 6 or 6:30pm and was a bit intimidated initially to see how busy it was. However, once I started looking for a machine, there were lots of my favorite model elliptical machine available. The best part is the televisions! Yes, going to the Monroeville LA Fitness has set my expectations very low.... However, every not-new LA Fitness seems to have the same problem with nasty smelling locker rooms and dirty bathrooms. C'mon, guys... working out in a grimy looking and smelling place is just not appealing. read more
