There are no words to express how amazing the food here! Kudos to the chef snd staff who endlessly give their passion in serving good food and tapas with an amazing smile. Ambience : the bar/ restaurant has a very inviting atmosphere, a bit crowded the way the tables were arrange but with all the customers they want to accommodate every one. 2. Service: entertaining, fast and adequate. The staff are very attentive with their customer, from asking you what to drink upon sitting down and going back to you and ask what order you want. Warning this place ALWAYS has a long wait every night! I'd recommend putting your name down then heading elsewhere for a drink or gelato. With such a long list of people that want to eat here every day I thought these tapas would be the most incredible I've ever eaten. Don't get me wrong everything was good but not amazing. I think the reason this place is so popular is because everything is not very expensive. With 1/2 a liter of sangria, 5 tapas, and 2 desserts for a table of two, our bill was €48. So come here if you want a good value. Out of everything we are, I really enjoyed most their hot meat selections and the foie gras (which was a tapa of the day) was one of the best things I've ever eaten. The green peppers were hot and salted which was unusual. The prawns were fine and already come peeled, which I prefer but my friend did not. For desserts, we had the one with whiskey and the bread pudding. They ended up being very similar in look and taste. But I thought the bread pudding was better. Comes out warm and has a little caramelization on top. Both desserts were nice top offs to our dinner. The sangria was fine, less sweet and more on the sourish side, but good. 1/2 a liter was enough for me and a friend to have a bit of wine. Service was good and the atmosphere is fun. They have English menus for both the main selections and desserts. Visited here last summer and I am still dreaming about the Paella. We loved it so much we ordered 3 servings and it was only 3 of us. The Foie Gras was good too but not as memorable. They are also very generous with the wine, I believe you get wine with your meal as one of the lunch deals and lucky for us we were on vacation because we were feeling good and full after our experience here. My only regret was eating so much Paella that I did not leave much room for the rest of the goodness there. My advice to anyone that goes is to try to study the menu before you sit down, they are very quick to greet you and take your order and it is like "know what you want and order quickly vibe" which was fine with me but I struggled a bit because I did not understand what all the items were. My friend who was a local joined us and was able to help us out tremendously. It could be a bit crowded here and there might be a line out the door but don't worry, it moves pretty fast. read more

Barcelona has no shortage of tapas spots...restaurants are nearly shouting at you with their tapas offerings from every corner of every area of this gorgeous city....croquettes, gambas, papas bravas, brochettes...but let me tell you, skip em all and make your way to La Flauta...you will NOT be disappointed. You will also have no trouble finding it as you meander through Exaimple as it'll be that lively, brightly lit doorway with people spilling out of it, glasses of wine in hand, necks craned to get a peak at the bustling bar and open kitchen, just waiting to hear their names called over the loud speaker (a very wise move btw given the sheer volume and turnover these guys do on a daily basis). A controlled chaos mind you that is brilliant to behold and one you just want to be part of. Having been given the tip that this was a 'do not miss' by a friend of ours, my fiance and I braved the impending wait time and made our way to La Flauta the first night we arrived in Barcelona. After putting our names in (quoted 40 minutes - which was surprisingly not bad at all) and grabbing a quick glass of wine across the street, we scooted our way in and shared a split of house cava (delish and incredibly affordable) while we watched the hustle and bustle of the kitchen and waited for our turn to dig into the plates slinging around us. After about an hour wait total, we were escorted to the back room and seated at a great corner table. One bottle of cava and more than a few minutes spent racking up the number of plates we were zeroing in on (let's just say we're both eyes are bigger than your stomach type peeps...until we actually do finish everything (whoops!) we placed our order and sat back while plates piled high began (RAPIDLY) appearing in front of us. *Patatas Bravas - easily THE BEST we've ever had. The potatoes were perfectly toothsome and along with the cooling white sauce drizzled generously over the dish, coupled with the elegantly spiced sauce alongside...this was a deadly combination...we licked the plate clean. Asparagus & Mushrooms - delish - nothing to write home about, but a great clean and easy pairing Galacian Octopus - a bit too heavy on the potatoes, but the octopus had stellar flavors and was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Would absolutely order again. *Shrimp + Octopus Brochette - MMMMMMM. Grilled to perfection and atop an all too necessary crispy bread slice. This was beyond fresh and screamed to be devoured...which we did. *Garlic Prawns - along with the patatas, this was THE STAR of the show - we wish we ordered two. Small portion to be sure, but packed with an obscene amount of flavor with every bite. Savory, a bit sweet, a bit spicy, with slight Asian undertones that truly elevated this dish. A must order. *Cod Fish w honey and Aioli Sauce - I WANT THIS RIGHT NOW. Another hit. We'd watched as a couple dove into this at the bar when we first walked in and as unawkwardly as I could, I asked the bartender what the dish was....well...it was easily one of the most surprising combinations and delicious dishes we've ever had. A warm, savory, buttery, sweet balance with just a touch of acidity -- the fish was perfectly tender and the aioli, brimming with sumptuous flavors - each forkful better than the last. You cannot leave here without ordering this dish! Galacian Clams - meh. A bit forgettable in the scheme of things. *Beef Filet (Brochette) - About a three bite wonder of medium (would've prefered a bit more rare, but still delicious) filet, a grilled padron pepper and crispy bread....so simple, so delicious. Special Duck (hot baguette) -- Highly recommend looking at the daily specials as often some of the best dishes we've found. This was like a suped up small hot hoagie...with melt in your mouth duck, melty camembert, lettuce and a light mayo-type sauce that was a perfectly harmonious mix of textures and flavors...we could've supersized this and taken it to go to nibble on later...yes....we're those people. We ended the meal with the churros and chocolate and a light yet decadent creme brulee - both plates were clean and both left us with an amazing light bite of clean sweetness that punctuated all of the flavors that had come before. Adding only to our pleasure was the incredibly affordable pricepoint that accompanied our feast. We just got home and I'm already counting down the next time we can go back and dine here....literally the definition of a no frills, top notch (in service and taste) gem that is rarely found, but always appreciated. We sat at the bar top both times, that's right, twice! As many places as Barcelona has to offer this is one of the best modern tapas places, gastronomy that actually works. Our bartender/server who looked like and sounded like Javier Bardem was friendly, quick, gracious, and helpful. He made great recommendations which I have listed below. I don't personally like foie gras but my travel partner said the sirloin with foie gras was the best thing she ate the whole meal. fava beans with ham were surprisingly one of our favorites too. I'm embarrassed to say ... I forgot (for the 4th time) to review my favorite restaurant in Barcelona ... I guess I have to go back again so I can have a fresh perspective. Let me just say that in all my trips to Barcelona, one things I HAVE to do ... Is dine at La Flauta. Las trip - three times! There's nothing I've ordered here that I have not thoroughly enjoyed. Last trip - the new thing I tried was the Camembert ... It's like heaven on a stick. Nuts, lightly fried, a raspberry drizzle, and you're transported to foodie heaven. We ordered many things. For the most part, each dish shared one (or all) of these characteristics: it was oily, it was fried, it was too sweet. For example: 2 sticks of Brie, fried and breaded. Or the fried potato sticks with a runny egg and mayonnaise, (I believe). Or the pieces of toasted bread, drizzled with olive oil and rubbed with tomato. Loved the tapas here. Especially the octopus and mussels dishes. La Flauta provided the best foie gras I have ever had in my life. We even used this opportunity to convince our non-adventurous friends to try some new dishes (they were afraid of the foie gras though). We even ended with the crema catalana for dessert which is basically creme brulee but that was excellent as well. Service was a tad slow and it also seemed a bit touristy, but I guess that is expected in barcelona. Not knocking any stars off for that, just informing. This place was packed and I'm not sure why. Someone recommended that we go here. But quite frankly, they had very mediocre Spanish Tapas. And we've eaten at a lot of Spanish cuisine establishments. It was totally packed, we had to wait at least 30 minutes on a Thursday night. Our waiter kind of sucked. Couldn't give us any reco's. He said, 'They're all good!'. The best tapas in Barcelona? Who knows, I could eat for years here and still probably not find the best tapas. However you certainly wouldn't be disappointed at La Flauta. Dining solo I sat at the bar avoiding the line for the main dining room and had a few small plates. If you are solo or want to try a lot get the 1/2 size portions of the bocadillos and tapas. Two or three will still fill you up. The highlight for me was the foie gras lobe with fruit on toast. Perfect bite of food. This was a great, homey neighborhood-feeling place with very good food. We sat upstairs, good, friendly service. We just ordered a bunch of things off the menu, and I wish we could have ordered some meat items, but we had to accommodate a vegetarian/pescatarian in the group (not that there's anything wrong with that, but limiting my menu choices when I'm trying to get as much of the local flavor is frustrating). Great place for a nice Barcelona meal. We came here after our friend recommended it for our trip. It was by far our favorite spot, which is why we went twice. The place is really nice and pretty large. It gets really crowded by 9 pm, but we walked in and we had a table within 30 minutes. So go earlier or go whenever and grab a drink while you wait. The good was great. Everything we had was tasty, but our favorites were the Spanish omelet, papas bravas, and calamari. The portions are pretty good, so don't order too much. The wine selection was solid and not excessively expensive. I really don't think you can go wrong. Service was pretty solid. The first time it was better, but still attentive the second time. La Flauta was a little bit of a disappointment when we went. It was a little odd to us that they did not have a drink menu on the main menu. Next, our food was a little salty, not unbearable but definitely enough for us to have to keep refilling our water. And on that note, we were charged for water which is something I've never experience yet in Barcelona (this might be normal). We were brought to Flauta by some friends who live in Valencia. We absolutely loved the meal we had. Definitely would recommend getting there early as the place was absolutely packed. My friend called ahead and put her name on the list yet we still waited about 20mins once our whole party was there. They do have a bar in the entrance so you can enjoy a drink while you wait. Probably the best food we've had since in Spain. Would highly recommend the grilled squid, grilled octopus, fried potatoes with a fried egg(can't remember that name), and filet medallions. Tried this place out based on recommendations. It was very busy when we arrived around 9:30 but managed to get a table in less than 10 minutes. The waiter was a bit abrupt and seemed inpatient as we looked over the many selections of pinchos, tapas, and entrees they offered some of which were difficult to understand with the English translation. The shrimp and crab ensaladilla was very good as were the croquets. The shrimp in garlic was a bit oily and lacking garlic but watch out for the tiny peppers they add. Lucky for us, we were able to observe this from our comfortable patio seats while tucking into a delicious meal. You can see why people love La Flauta as the food is simply incredible. Their take on tapas is ingenious. Everything came at different times which is one of the wonderful things about tapas. It can be like eating many mini meals. The Camembert Brochette is to die for. Deep fried Camembert covered in crushed peanuts and topped off with a cranberry jam. The Prawn and Calamari Brochette was equally as good - smothered in garlic and cooked perfectly, three juicy prawns and calamari all perfectly tender. The Patatas Bravas was very buttery, the baby squid and small fried fish were lovely and light, even the bread with tomato was perfect and obviously created by true professionals. The food came quickly and was served with quality wine and beer. I went for a small bottle of Cava which was crisp, dry and perfectly chilled. We had no idea where to eat for dinner one night; but then we saw La Flauta and it looked so good. It was crowded, which is always a good sign. We started off with sangria, of course, which was amazing. Fresh and flavorful; the best sangria we had while in Barcelona. The waiter was so patient with us and helped us interpret the menu and order. We then had tapas, all of which were delicious. The one that most stands out was this perfect piece of filet mignon topped with a perfectly crusted piece of duck. AAAA-MA-ZING. This was our favorite meal during our entire honeymoon, which consisted of various stop in the Mediterranean. It may have been my favorite meal ever in my life. read more
