We are Mexican food snobs. I could explain why, but it doesn't matter. We are. For the longest time, the only places we would go back to were Baja's in Orange (still fabulous) and Mexicali Rose in New Town (have not been for years - must return!). In a pinch we might go somewhere else, but really no place nearby satisfied. Until we went to La Fonda. It is in the corner of an ordinary strip mall on Main Street, around the corner from the shoe repair shop we love (Two Brothers). It is a cute little place, with good music playing. They are set up for live music, but not the night we went. I won't go into the specifics of the food - it was over two weeks ago - but it was absolutely fresh and delicious. The chips and salsa were great. Now that is not usually something to get excited about, but so many meals have been made to feel just ordinary by stale chips and tasteless salsa. Not La Fonda. I have always seen this restaurant when I stop at this shopping plaza but never really gave it much thought because it is situated in the corner and the light is not the best and it just did not seem appealing to me. We were going to visit another restaurant in the same area but it was really packed and because of social distancing we chose to not eat there. We decided to give this place a try and I am so glad we did. The food was delicious! We started with the guacamole and chips which was ok, not great but ok. I had the steak fajitas and they were absolutely delicious. They were packed with flavor and so good. My girlfriend had the red snapper and she said it was out of this world good. My con had the chicken burrito with green sauce and said it was two thumbs up. As we came in we felt very comfortable, our table was plenty distanced from the next. The decor was very traditional Mexican decor, nothing tacky but you knew you were in a Mexican restaurant. The staff was very quick and helpful. You can't judge a book by its cover. They also do Jarritos Sodas (if you know, you know) This time I got the homemade chips (extra red salsa-spicy) chicken tacos, churros, and a Jarritos. As always the delivery people are super nice Plenty of food at Very Reasonable Prices The Homemade Chips are heavenly and Crispy The Churros were perfect I usually eat here a couple times a month. I almost always get delivery I have dined in once or twice. It's a small place and the waitress was very friendly and personable. It is unfortunately rare that I take the time to write a good review, so this one is even more special. I recently moved from California, so to say I know Mexican cuisine would be an understatement. I mean there literally is a taco truck on every corner and each is delicious. Still reading? Ok! La Fonda is located in the corner of a strip center on Main Street but don't let this deter you. As soon as you open the door you'll feel the love. It's very bright with decor everywhere that fits the Mexican vibe. Joyful Spanish music resonated throughout the restaurant. It is small but not so much that you feel as if you are on top of anyone. They probably have 10-20 tables total. The staff were extremely friendly and each person from the hostess to server were all just as nice. I ordered chicken fajitas and my girlfriend had nachos with steak. The food was authentic and tasted great, it wasn't bland chicken with some peppers and onions. Everything was well thought out and the delicious sautéed mushrooms added another layer of flavor. My girlfriend loved her nachos, and they looked delicious as well. It wasn't a huge mound of chips with no cheese, all of the toppings were very generous. I definitely just found my new spot to get delicious Mexican food in Bridgeport! My older son has been saying for some time how great their food is so we finally ordered. There were four of us and three out of the four got burritos; one got a quesadilla with steak. Two orders of nachos and in my opinion, the best flan I have or ever will have, ever! It tasted like the most amazing creme' brûlée, just without the sugar on top. My chicken burrito was huge and really good. I was surprised the chucked wasn't shredded but it was flavorful and had a good texture. I ordered extra sauces; the verde, rojas ( which says it's spicy and it is but not deadly, just very peppery). I also got a small guacamole and pico de gallo. It was all fresh and tasty. I could only eat about a third of the burrito but I couldn't put the flan down and not only ate the whole thing, I ordered three more! Stopped in here today by accident. They have only been opened about four weeks so everything is still brand new. While they will have a bar, the permits weren't ready quite yet, so no drinks today. They let us know everything will be set in a few weeks and they will be having a grand opening party. The menu was interesting and had a good deal to pick from at reasonable prices. I decided on the cemita, which was a roll with avocado, chipolte mayo, tomato, onions cheese and I added chicken. My meal my not only delicious, but a huge serving. Everything tasted super fresh and had just the right combination of spice/heat. Our server was super friendly and very attentitive. We were the only ones there for lunch, but we welcomed how friendly she was. We BF has the three tacos (two chicken, one al pastor and enjoyed his meal as well. Today was our first time here. I had been meaning to try it, but the surrounding area and parking lot didn't look very inviting. I live close to this place and the parking lot always looks like a mess (pot holes and garbage). Today we decided to give it a try and I'm so glad we did. The food is delicious. The place is clean and the service is very good. I loved my steak quesadilla. I added their green sauce and it was just excellent. They offer you regular tortillas or hand made tortillas. I went for the hand made ones. My husband had the chimichanga with steak and it was great. We will definitely be back for margaritas at happy hour. I've never actually visited the restaurant location but have ordered many times on Grubhub! Any meals we have ordered are always of generous portion size and fair pricing. All made with lots of fresh vegetables and meat. The meals are always delivered way faster than the projected time on Grubhub. My go-to order is usually the shrimp quesadilla. I also love the Fonda fish tacos! The crema sauce that comes with them is excellent. My husband often orders fajitas or burritos as well. This was the worst Mexican food and service we have ever experienced. First of all, they were out of the first three things we tried to order, including the guacamole. The salsa was watery and lacked taste. The carnitas were made of diced pork chops instead of slow-cooked pork loin and was lathered in a sweet tomato sauce. The chicken in the burritos and the quesadilla was bland and over cooked. We ordered margaritas for happy hour. They were supposed to be half-price. When the hostess brought us the check, she was annoyed that I wanted to review the bill and told me that everything was fine. When I pointed out that we had been overcharged for the margaritas, she stomped off in a huff to fix the bill. Unfortunately, we will not be back. read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant in fairfield county. Food is always fresh, and you can tell they put love into the food they make.

Finally dropped by for food on a Friday night around 8 pm. There was one other party headed out but it was deserted otherwise. There was live karaoke going on the entire time of our visit. The man singing seemed to be recording and streaming. Needless to say, it was an experience. Food and drink-wise: The margaritas were surprisingly good and came in the cute cactus glasses. Didn't taste like sour mix . The salsa tasted like there was a chipotle component - it was alright. We ordered chorizo tostadas and chicken flautas. The tostadas were just what I was craving. The flautas has shredded chicken that was a little dry, but they were fine. Our server brought out two different sauces we could enjoy - one green and tasted like a tomatillo salsa verde, the other a spicy orange sauce that probably had habaneros. The sauces brightened up our dishes and were delightful. Service was very slow even though the restaurant was empty. It took forever to get our food and then our check, so don't expect to get in and out here. We might be back because this place is so close, but only time will tell. read more

A quaint little hole in the wall restaurant that was marvelous. We were there at 5:30pm and it was during Happy Hour where drinks are half price. The mango margarita was refreshing and huge. Homemade chips and salsa were put down on the table and devoured in minutes, more were brought. I ordered the chicken quesadillas that were loaded with chicken. Ok. So I used this restaurant to cater an event for 50 people. I had a very specific idea of what I wanted (trays of meat and veggies but that's it). I called around to a few spots and finally found La Fonda. They were the only ones who actually listened to what I wanted and then worked with me in order to get exactly what I was looking for. It was a huge relief because the event was only 2 days away. It took a few back and forth phone calls but they were very friendly and professional. I ended up ordering more than I expected because they made it so easy. I ordered the carnitas and the chicken along with rice and beans and both red and green salsas. I ordered the salsas mild and they were both perfectly spiced! The red was spicier than the green though. They took a deposit over the phone and I paid the balance on pick up. They even had the best prices out of the 4 places I called. They also had it hot and ready when I went to pick it up (they did offer delivery but I was taking a huge chance and wanted to pick up in case I needed something changed.) it was quick and easy and they helped me to my car. Finally, the food! It was a hit! And this was a group of people who know their Mexican food. The carnitas was the best! The chicken was pretty good. The rice and beans were well seasoned and cooked. The burrito was delicious!!! They also have happy hour from 3-7 on weekdays and the margaritas and mojitos are only $4. They're delicious! Overall the service was great and the food and drinks were really good! I will definitely be coming back.
