Always have great food and service here. I always get the pork belly and fish tacos, incredible. This time I added from their specials and got the oyster and octopus. Oysters were ok, personally not my favorite but had great flavor. The octopus was cooked to perfection. I wish they'd keep it on their menu. Also tried the tuna tostados, again wish they'd keep in their menu. Great food, great prices too!
Don Rene is in my opinion the best restaurant in the downtown Milford area based on the high quality food and service you can receive. I've been here quite a few times and I am never disappointed, I've gotten the tacos and yucca fries before, delicious. On my recent visit I went with the Brown Rice Bowl and added lamb to my dish. Heaping portion with sliced bell peppers, corn and black beans. I also love their in house sauces you can add to any dish. Might seem slightly pricey but you are definitely getting quality portions. They gave me 3 long pieces of lamb that I couldn't get enough of, lean and tender of course. They have a couple small tables outside in front of the door and some tables inside as well, come check this place out!
Yay the tacos are tasty! The tacos are both traditional and fusion tacos. I ordered many of the tacos on the menu and liked all of them. The service was also good, the girls here are really sweet and nice! It looks kinda like a little dive shop inside but whatever the tacos were good! I will absolutely be back!
I happen to stop in with my mom today and this place always hits the spot. I haven't been here in quite some time so it was nice to be able to enjoy the food again and it tasted even better than I remember. The service was great and quick as well! I got the birria as always with the yuca fritas that are always good. My mom got the lamb which she loved and the pork belly it was a little too fatty to enjoy the whole taco but the flavor was good. My mom also wanted to try the corn bread and the coconut flan they were both delicious as well. Everything was great and I'll always come back. I did see that they have a spot in New Haven now I definitely want to try! 10/10 always recommend!
This is an excellent place! They have great tacos with excellent flavors. The service is fast respectful and friendly. You can sit inside or outside. It's quiet and relaxed. Food is really good! Highly recommend you visit, there's free parking in front or there's a parking lot in the back.
This is the place to go for a quick and delicious lunch! With only a few tables inside, this restaurant serves up a great food and service for an affordable price. They offer a large selection of tacos, starters and more. I enjoyed the Baja fish, pork pastor, carnitas, birria, chicken adobado, pork belly and ribeye carne asada tacos. The ingredients tasted fresh and well cooked. The only downside was that the tortillas got soggy and the esquites were watery. The spicy beef and chicken jerk empanadas with house made salsas, guacamole and hot sauces were definitely the highlight. Definitely try this spot out!

This is a small taqueria located downtown. The ambience is like a luncheonette, not a romantic affair at all. I came on a Saturday night with a friend and we were fortunate to be seated immediately at the last available table. Service was also immediate and friendly. I felt as though they were anxious for us to order however we had some questions about the menu and so our server had to return to give us time to decide. Once served, and eating they scooped up our plates before the food even got to our mouths! This was unsettling as we felt rushed and that they needed the plates back as soon as the food was off of them. I ordered the shrimp ceviche that came with avocado and chips on the side . It was tasty however different than any I had before in that it was in a tomato base and seemed more like a gazpacho than ceviche. We each ordered a pear and beet salad which we liked and cornbread to share which was delicious. My friend had a chicken taco that was enjoyed. They don't serve liquor here so we were a bit disappointed that we didn't get to have a margarita to go with the food. Like I said, it appeared that they don't want you to linger. Overall the food was good and the service was friendly. If you want to eat and go, this place will fit the bill.
The best tacos we've had in a while! This will definitely be our new go too taco place. I got the birra, pastor and pork belly taco. The tacos are a good size with a good amount of meat in them. The pastor was my favorite, but they were all excellent. I got the hibiscus drink which was not too sweet and a little tart and my husband got the passion fruit which he liked too. The service was also great. Definitely give this place a try!

Having eaten a lot of items here, let me tell you what are the musts here (noting not everything included because everything is on point, just my favs) 1. Guacamole. It's perfect. 2. Chicken tacos. Literally the best chicken tacos I've ever had. The spices in this are amazing. I dream about these tacos all the time 3. Ribeye Asada tacos: muy excellente! 4. Quesadilla- probably the most surprising hit. I don't know how Don Rene can turn such a simple item like cheese on a tortilla into something amazing. These quesadillas are epic and unlike anything you've had before. Maybe it's the cheese?? So damn good. I love you don Rene. See you soon!
We stopped here after a movie for dinner. This place is a tiny spot with limited seating available and noticed a lot of takeouts going out the door. For tacos, I got the Baja Fish which was very bland and disappointing. However, the salad and quesadilla made up for it. The salad was fresh plain and easy. It's on point for $7. The highlight of the visit is the Tres Leches cake. It is my most favorite. It was soft, fresh and very well presented. I'd just consider this place again for the cake.
Everything is delicious here! We tried half the menu! The corn bread was my daughters fav! They also use local made take out boxes from Kraftgreen! Way to support local!
What a little gem in Milford. I had the Pastore, Rib-eye asada, and Red Snapper tacos. They are street taco size. Each was an amazing explosion of intense flavor. I could have kept eating more. I'll definitely be back!

Right in S Broad St. the location couldn't be any better with parking right in the front. I got the horchata it was so fresh and yummy. For small plates, we got the esquites and sweet plantains. The esquites was delicious. For the sweet plantains, they asked if we wanted the crema + queso fresco on the side but it still came on top. Plantains were alright, wasn't loving them though because they were drenched in the toppings. Kale salad was huge! Yummy and fresh. The food came out so quick. I love that they use corn tortillas for the tacos. The pork belly taco was drenched in kimchi, not my favorite but a good cut of pork belly. I like the lamb taco tasted just like a mini lamb gyro. The baja fish taco was my favorite though, it's comes in a huge slab. it was so good I ordered another. I love the chipotle sauce the Baja fish taco comes with too. The music was awesome too, such a vibe. A lot of EDM, felt like all they were missing was a disco ball. Very delicious, would come back. read more
Don Rene Taqueria is a fast-ish casual Mexican spot with a variety of made to order tacos, quesadillas and sides/apps. Great flexibility for mix and match a variety of tacos. Convenient for dine in or take out. We found the plantains to be well fried and deliciously sweet. The ribeye quesadilla was good chunks of beef, but while good quality, seemed to lack seasoning. Service was friendly but missed several things in our order. Had to catch before we left we had ordered a drink. Unfortunately did not find out until we got home they had not bagged the dipping sauce for the birria tacos. read more

Great authentic taqueria near the center of Milford, Ct. the dining room is small and basic, not a space where you would hang out after eating, but it does the job. They don't serve alcohol, BTW. The service is prompt and the tacos top notch. I'd like to return to try more offerings. I had the shrimp and fish tacos and was impressed. If you want real tacos, you should try this place. read more

Delicious food. I had the shrimp Cerviche and the chicken quesadillas and wasn't disappointed! Our table shared the off menu Beef Birra Nachos (The highlight!) We also got some desserts to go (Tres Leches cake and Chocoflan). Yummy! The service was friendly and knowledgeable (he made some delicious recommendations). My fiancé and I went to Don Rene for Valentine's Day and really enjoyed ourselves. Don Rene is a small spanish restaurant with a small inviting vibe. Another couple and ourselves were the only ones in the restaurant. For appetizers, we started with jerk chicken empanadas, which my fiancé said were the best empanadas he has ever had. We also got yucca fries, esquires and cornbread, which all both outstanding. For dinner, we ordered birria tacos, which we had never had before and really liked, carnitas tacos and chicken tacos. Overall, we really liked Don Rene and enjoyed our meal. read more

Super friendly, not a super big place to sit but staff was extremely attentive. Tacos were super tasty, as were the birria nachos. The esquites was amazing and the perfect t amount of spice. I def plan on going back! The tres leches was spot on! read more
Taqueria is becoming a popular name for Mexican restaurants.Taqueria means Tacos in general. This place is unique with a different type of tacos like carnitas ( pork) adobo chicken or birria tacos. Amazing tacos! My boyfriend and I love coming here. I'm vegan and I order their guacamole and cauliflower tacos. The guacamole and chips is awesome; super fresh and flavorful. The cauliflower tacos are also amazing. They come with a smoked tomato sauce and toasted pumpkin seeds. The prices are pretty reasonable! So far we've only gotten take out from here but hope to dine in soon! read more

Fantastic hidden gem in Milford! We ordered here for the first time and we were blown away by the food. We typically do not order Mexican but we are so glad we tried Don Rene. It lives up to the hype as many other Yelpers said. The food is very authentic and we loved the variety of choices. We split the Kale salad which was a great size and was very flavorful. We also tried 6 tacos: beef, duck, shrimp, ribeye, cauliflower and butternut squash. They were all very good but the stars were the duck, butternut and beef tacos. Looking forward to ordering from here again soon! read more

Their corn tortillas were covered in mold. My guests ate two of them before I turned on a light while we were watching a movie and noticed. There was so much mold on them that there is no way the chef didn't see what they were serving. So either the chef didn't care or is an asshole. Hopefully no one gets sick. read more

If you're someone who lived in California and loved Mexican food, you're going to struggle with Milford's options. Yeah you could go down to long wharf but I've never experienced consistency with those trucks. My fingers are crossed that we(Milford)finally have the taqueria to fill that void. The tacos had great flavor. They reminded me of bar taco a little bit but without the Fairfield county prices. We went with cauliflower, beef and pastor. My wife always has to get a quesadilla and we were also impressed with the flavor. The sauces they included were an added bonus. I'll start with four stars and update to five once I'm consistently experiencing good food. read more

This place has been on my list to visit for quite some time since it opened. I ordered the Hibiscus Agua Naturales which was refreshing but not too sweet. Our server was super friendly and made sure any questions we had about the menu were answered. The best thing we ate for sure was the birria nachos. They should honestly put them on the regular menu. I also had three different tacos all vegetarian including one with cauliflower which were tasty. I also had the sweet plantains which were caramelized well. Another highlight was their dessert selection which included coco flan and many flavors of tres leches cake. I will definitely be back to try other things. read more

Finally - a great taco place! I have been searching for 6 years! Everything is good. The Yuca Frita and Corn Bread are amazing! My favorite tacos are Mahi Mahi, Falafel and Ribeye carne asada. It's all reasonably priced too. Let's keep their business prosperous so they stay for a long time! read more
