La Fontana restaurant is the best Italian restaurant in Bellagio. The Caprese salad and the mixed salad are the freshest I have ever had. I have never had such a fresh Buffalo mozzarella and the sweet and sour firm tomatoes are to die for. Another great dish was the homemade truffle pizza and the seafood ravioli. The ribs were also very tasty. The restaurant is very clean. The white crisp table cloth and the very tasteful decoration makes the restaurant very cozy. The red wines are excellent. The service is 1st class. I highly recommend this restaurant. We ate here twice and comparing this restaurant with other restaurant in Bellagio La Fontana is the winner! Pesto pasta, GF lasagna and artichokes- the GF lasagna was different it was more of a dough than pasta noodles it wasn't bad but I wouldn't recommend it. The pesto pasta had really good flavor, noodles were just a bit hard still. The artichokes were good, but they were just artichoke hearts so can't go wrong there really. A very busy and bustling restaurant located away from the waterfront in Bellagio. We were very lucky to get a table for lunch right away, because soon afterward all of the tables were full and there were many people waiting. We ordered a pizza, gnocchi, and the star of the show - cannelloni della nonna (this was one of my favorite entrees of the trip)! I get the feeling that the restaurant is a bit overwhelmed by this busy season but my group really had no complaints. The staff were perfectly friendly to us and provided great service. Let me preface this by saying that we're in Bellagio in late July, that there's a worker shortage, and that Italy is having unprecedented numbers of tourists right now. In fact, my party of six discussed this at length last night over dinner at La Fontana. The discussion arose because we were taken aback by the rudeness of the host (and I believe, based on a conversation I heard him having at another table, the owner) and waitstaff. For example, when we first arrived I went inside to see if there was a waitlist. The owner yelled at me, "There is a line! Get in the line!" I responded, "I just wanted to see if there is a list," and he barked back, "There is no list! Get in line!" I should've left. When our food arrived (two orders of ravioli, a prosciutto and mushroom pizza, lasagna, fried seafood platter, meat and cheese board, roasted vegetables, a mixed salad, and chicken in a white wine sauce with ratatouille), we dug in. The results were mixed. About half of us liked our food but none of us thought it was exceptional. The worst meal by far was the chicken. The sauce was clumpy and the ratatouille was absolute mush. My 18-year-old son was hungry, though, so he scraped off the sauce and ate most of the chicken before giving up. It was by far the worst meal we've ever had in Italy (I've lived in Florence, we've been here on vacation or for work a dozen times). We didn't say anything. We knew the restaurant was working under difficult conditions. I heard the owner tell the table next to us that their day off is Thursday, so they'd been working hard for six days, and that they were especially busy because the restaurant next to them was closed. I heard a waitress snap at another table who had complained, "It's because we are so full!" We wanted to be accommodating and not make things worse by returning that awful chicken. But now my son has been in the bathroom for three hours throwing up that chicken. When he's not kneeling over the toilet, he's sitting on it. Saying something last night wouldn't have helped, as he'd already eaten a lot of it. So I'm saying something now. Don't go to La Fontana. read more

Walking by , La Fontana caught our eye early in the day, so we called later for reservations which, before they abruptly hung up, we were abruptly told they don't take. So we walked there and I walked past several outdoor dinners to put our party name on the wait list and was accosted by the owner and told roughly that there was no list and to get on line at the corner of the stairs. When a table became available we were seated and slightly rushed to order. The food was produced quickly and was not wonderful. My lasagna was ok, not great and my husband didn't eat more than half his ravioli (this is a man who EATS.) My grandson did not eat much of his dish and later that night got food poisoning-was up for hours sick. Dishes were cleared when were still eating and none of us wanted desert after such a disappointing experience- a real oddity in our family. read more

After Lake Como provided the worst meal of my Italian vacation (cough, Bilacus, cough), I was overjoyed to discover the friendly service and excellent flavors at La Fontana Bellagio. The decor isn't much to look at. Tables are packed pretty tightly. But the food delivers. I had a pesto penne (€9) that was pretty great. The pesto was creamier than most you'll encounter in Italy, but it was really nice. Penne was cooked perfectly. I followed that up with tagliata di manzo (steak, €20). When I ordered, they asked how I wanted it cooked. "Medium rare," I said. "Thank you for not killing it," the server said. Props for acceptable food snobbery/humor! The steak was delivered on a sizzling platter for some reason. That was kinda weird and unnecessary. It was cooked perfectly (take notes, you butchers at Bilacus). One real downer was that all the desserts seemed to be pre-made, sitting in a refrigerator in the dining room, each one covered in plastic wrap. We did not eat dessert, so I can't say if they were as disappointing as they looked. Our total bill was €71.50 for two people. On the higher side, sure, but the food hit the spot. read more

We ordered pasta and both our dishes came out super quick which we thought it was a good thing.. nope, they both were tasteless.. and felt like reheated not fresh pasta, soooo sad for Italy, in our entire trip this year and our last years trip to Italy we never had experienced bad food.. sad we finally did. Every online place I went to had good and better than average reviews for this place, so I am even shocked!!!! So sad. The complimentary bread was stale. Save yourself. This is a poor representation of true Italian food. Also, not that it really matters what the staff is like necessarily, but everyone who worked there did not say more than one word to us, not even our own server. Honestly, would not recommend. Overpriced low quality food. The bread basket was stale, the pasta was heavy. Everyone at the table agreed we chose a "tourist trap" place. There is a restaurant in Bellagio called Dispensa 63 where apparently they use local seasonal ingredients and the chef makes your food in an open kitchen in front of you. Unfortunately we heard of this restaurant too late, but if you want a better representation of Italian food, I would recommend checking them out. read more

After a long morning on lake Como and shopping in Bellagio, Fontana provided the perfect setting for a late lunch in the tranquil surroundings the Italian lakes region is known for. Be prepared to be warmly greeted and seated promptly. Don't be put off if you need to wait 10 minutes for an outdoor table. Well worth any wait. Started with local specialty of buckwheat ravioli filled with dried beed, cabbage, and cheese. Sage butter sauce. Incredible as an app for two. Followed with fileto di manzo with porcini. Perfect med rare served on a sizzling plate. Also Duo of local trout and salmon filet with white wine. Tender and flaky, delicious. Menu is filled with local specialty dishes. The downside: food was really salty. The only thing we had that wasn't too salty was the caprese. We had the homemade seafood paste and also the seafood carpaccio. The food was ok but not at all what I expected or what i ordered. The staff did not care about my experience with their food. I ordered the ravioli which normally comes with a cream sauce. I asked if I could have it in a red, tomato sauce. They said yes to the red sauce but in stead of ravioli, what they brought back was tortellini in red sauce. I queried the waiter about it and stated I ordered ravioli. Instead of owning the mistake, the waiter tried to sell me on the idea that tortellini and ravioli are the same thing. I didn't argue the point but it was my last dinner in Bellagio and it was both frustrating to be lied to and was very disappointing as a final meal. I recommend going anywhere else in Bellagio to eat other than La Fontana , La Grotta or Nando were excellent. Don't waste your time with La Fontana. read more

I can't comment on the food, only the service. My wife and I were quickly seated and handed a menu. We were not in a hurry and we're happily conversing for about 10 minutes when we realized no one had come for our drink order or to give us water. We tried getting the eye of several waiters, to no avail. After 20 minutes we gave up and got up to leave. At that point a waiter came over and said "Sir, we don't do fast food". Stopped by here for lunch after the ferry ride over from Varenna. The curry ravioli was interesting strong flavors and pasta was cooked al dente! The fountain prosciutto with cantaloupe was delicious! Sweet and salty, something I never had before and it was amazing!
