Carbonara and gnocchi was a bit plain and under-seasoned. Pizza was a little too salty for my taste. But overall, the quality wasn't all that terrible. What ruined the experience tho was how the server lied and fumbled for excuses to NOT honor the yelp offer (15 % off a la carte bill). He initially told us we had to tell him immediately when seated. Then he changed it to we had to have made a reservation through yelp. When I showed him on the app that Fontana did not offer that feature - he stormed off and told us to just eat. All the exchanges happened before our food arrived. It wasn't as if he brought out the check and then I approached him with "btw I wanted to use my yelp offer". Service was painfully slow. They turned off the free WiFi as soon as I challenged his yelp reservation excuse. Passive aggressive much? Don't let the quiet alley lure u - Fontana is no hidden gem.

We were a group of hot and sweaty tourists stopping at Trevi fountain. One man heard our cries for food and beer. A restaurant pamphlet man told us that there was food and beer and most importantly of all AIR CONDITIONING at the place he was advertising. He led us away (only 1 minute walk) to the restaurant in a quite little back street. He high fived us as we walked in and left us to the mercy of the staff. This quant little restaurant is in the cool under part of an old city building. You can relax and allow yourself to be swept away by the chill atmosphere. In my opinion time moves slower when your hungry, but service was very fast indeed. Food was out before we knew it. The pizza was effortlessly perfect. Simple yet flavoursome. Lite yet filling. The wife had pasta that was like no other pasta I've ever tasted. It was just beyond imaginary. It was everything I expected and more. The pure definition of al denta. The sauce was petite yet bold and full of personality. We had panacota for desert. Again simple yet undeniably full of flavour. The staff were very nice, the place was very relaxed and food was above and beyond. A sure fire gem only a short walk from the fountain. As it was a little bit off the tourist radar it wasn't packed, a blessing if you ask me. Funny story. Used the toilet there, went to go wash my hands and after soaping them up I was met by a single tap without any hot/cold handles. I was doing everything to get it working. It didn't have motion sensors. It didn't respond to my sensual dance moves. I was stuck in the bathroom with soapy hands and a tap that I had no idea how to utilize. After much confusion I glanced down and noticed the foot pedal that ran up underneath the sink. With this new found knowledge I pressed down on the pedal and my hands were rinsed.

First restaurant I found with Vegan options available on their menu. Fast service with super friendly waiters. I ordered the salmon and my wife ordered the pistachio cream pasta. We also ordered the stuffed zucchini blossoms for starters. First off the food is presented beautifully. Second it tasted just as wonderful as it looked. The salmon had a nice crunch on outside and the pasta was al dente with a lovely cream sauce. The zucchini blossoms were surprisingly good considering they weren't fried.

BIG TOURIST TRAP!!! We were around the area and I had bookmarked this place based on Yelp and Tripadvisor reviews. As soon as we got closer to a narrow alley at the end of which is this restaurant, we were approached by a guy giving away flyers for this restaurant and luring potential customers. My husband suggested we steer away from this place, and I too had a funny feeling when this man escorted us through the alley into the restaurant. Bad decision on our part! The restaurant was busy and filled with tourists and not locals. There was a big group from a tour and a lot of Americans and non-Italians. My husband being almost a vegetarian (he does not eat pork, beef or seafood) we stuck to vegetarian pastas. We ordered a bowl of salad to start with and 2 vegetarian pasta dishes. The salad was boring and had really bad quality mozzarella that has the texture of rubber and I was repenting on why we got into this place :\ The pasta dishes we ordered were the Amatriciana without bacon and Cacio Pepe. Both the dishes had super al dente pasta and were extremely sauce heavy. The flavor were absolutely mediocre and we could see that the quality of the ingredients was poor as well. The Cacio Pepe dish seemed it was made using some sort of white sauce made with flour. True Cacio Pepe is an incredibly simple yet delicious dish with salt, pepper and pecorino cheese. The dish we got seemed to have too heavy of a sauce indicating that they had skimped on the cheese and just added a hint and replaced it with a basic white sauce with salt and pepper. We are on a 23 day trip in Italy and have had some of the best food right from small quaint restaurants serving some of the best food we have had and fine dining restaurants. However, this meal was one of our worst so far. Again we did not try the meat or seafood dishes so I cannot comment on those. I believe that this place is popular with the tour groups and the service is friendly, making people come to this place.

Olive oil Packets are what you like to see on your table never ever

Well. This meal was so below my expectations that I couldn't wait to return to the hotel to write a review in order to save you from my fate. I mean it was so very terrible. First, the ambience is poor ... No tablecloths and 80s classic US rock (remember whitesnake?) which later was changed to the Kenny g compilation AA uses for get-ready-to-taxi-from-the-gate music. NOt at all what I wanted to hear during an authentic Italian dinner experience. Then came the menu which ought to have sounded all of my warning bells enough to get me the heck out of there. It was ancient. I mean, the paper stuck into plastic sleeve protectors was yellowed. It hadn't been changed since the place opened and had all of the excitement to be one of my parents favorite restaurants. They are not exciting people. The food was so disappointing. With the strong positive reaction from Yelp users, I really wondered what I was doing wrong! The bread was delivered with olive oil and white vinegar IN PACKETS. Allow me to repeat: we tore open condiment packets to get olive oil for our bread. It was exactly like being on an airplane then. Did the other 50+ exuberant yelpers miss that? EGAD! Then came the insalata specialiali capresiani ... It was (in case you want to whip up at home) 1) chopped iceberg, 2) grated carrots, 3) canned corn, canned artichoke hearts, canned olives and 4) some of the blandest mozzarella I've ever experienced since my last run in with Polly-O. Sheesh. No self respecting chef would have this mess on his menu. I had a "Danish" steak which was perfectly cooked but poor-quality rendering most of it fat or grizzle. My husband had a pasta seafood dish that was neither here nor there. We left trying to decide how on earth the place got even one positive rating. If you are wanting a terribly disappointing meal in a city full of good food, try this place but please take the time to leave an honest review so that others need not replicate your mistake. The waiters were very pleasant, by the way. I'm glad to have that one nice things to say.

Fresh pasta with fresh garlic, olive oil and pepper flakes with a tap Perroni couldn't be better. After first bite a shuttle spark warmed up my mouth. We are a group of 13 and they all agreed. This place is a must have lunch,

First page of the menu says "You don't have to pay if you don't feel satisfied." Pretty bold!

Food (4.3 Stars) - I had the House Lasagna, which the waiter recommended out of the pasta listing. It was better than great but not necessarily best I can get. The pasta listing was anywhere from 8 to 14 Euros. Their cocktail Long Island was very well made. It actually got me sober-drunk with one cocktail, which is very strange to me. I couldn't even taste the alcohol but apparently it did work on me more than anything. Service (6 Stars) - Excellent staff. One of the best you will get out of restaurants in Rome. Environment (5 Stars) - It is located in a small, cute street. The entrance is automated glass door and the table settings were professional and clean. You get 15% off your meal here for checking in. Free wifi after sign-in, and they are super dedicated to customer satisfaction and wrote in the first page of their menu that they won't charge you unless you are completely satisfied, which makes me happy just by reading it for their dedication. Overall, very pleasant experience!

This place is fabulous! Visited there six years ago, could not remember the name but was able to find it on Google maps. It was so exciting to go back there and find that the memory of it was just as wonderful as the restaurant itself. Highly recommend the lunch menu with course selections--have the Risotto alla Pescatora-- so much wonderful food. The service is amazing as is the homemade Limoncello!

melon with parma ham in back and spaghetti carbonara with seafood in front

Came here twice on our Rome trip. The first time, we shared the seafood platter and it was delicious. Come to think of it, we should have each ordered our own - it was that good. We came here again on our last day in Rome because it was convenient to where we were shopping. The owner and all the waitstaff recognized us and greeted us with smiles and complimentary moscato. The husband decided to get the melon with parma ham and while it tasted funky to me, I can see why it is perceived to be such an interesting taste to others. I got the spaghetti carbonara with seafood. I must have been waaay pasta'd out by that time because it only tasted average to me. However, if I ever find myself in Rome again, I will come back for that amazing seafood platter.

FANTASTIC. Our first Roman dinner was here and I can passionately say it was our best by far. We were looking over the menu pensively in the front of the restaurant and the server graciously explained their specials and was soon after walking us to the scenic back alley way the tables were set up in. Lovely candles flickered in the center of all tables. The awning was red and white stripes and to me, personally at least, they screamed 'ITALY'. Wine was very defined and sweet- just how I like it. Our appetizers were out in minutes. For dinner, my friend got the risotto and I had a spicy pasta with zucchini and peppers and greens. PHENOMONAL. I personally was obsessed with the risotto- it had a creamy meets saucy texture and was rich rich rich with pure flavor. We also had bruschetta and a cheese dish which both confirmed we made the right choice upon first bite. The server saw me pick up my camera and before I could ask, reached his hand out and happily took our photos. We were in awe of the hospitality and left extra tip because he literally stood close to our table to waited for us to call on him for anything we may want. He directed us to Piazza Navona and we couldnt have been happier with our experience overall.

Great food, atmosphere and service for a reasonable price. The only downfall of the place is it can get a little loud. The other great benefit of this place is that its off the beaten path away from the touristy area of Trevi Fountain. We came in without reservations and the staff still seated us and were very accommodating. We ordered the the special with some pork ala carte and it was enough to feed both of us to stuffing. The special was a three course meal with desert and a glass of prosseco for only $28 euro. The staff were awesome and actually gave us two glasses and two desserts even though we only ordered on special. All in all, we would highly recommend this place and would go back there if we didn't want to try new places every night.

This was one of the best meals we had in Rome!! It is a hidden gem tucked away in a side street by the Trevi fountain. The service was fantastic, waiter was very nice and entertaining. As for the food, it did not disappoint from the apps to the dessert. Try the cheesecake, it was so light and amazing! Everything was so good, we'll be coming back next time we're in Rome to try the tasting menu. Thank you for a great meal on our last night!

We were brought here on a viator.com tour group. We had a set menu with a pasta appetizer and a meat dish between pork and fish. They were accommodating with my vegetarian companion. The dessert was panna cotta with chocolate. I ate half of it but I'm not a fan.

As a Southern American trying to navigate Rome, I'm still completely confused. I cannot for the life of me figure out north vs. south or east vs. west in this city. Every street somehow looks historic, beautiful, and exactly the same. By 9 PM, after walking more than 10 miles today and standing in countless lines -- one for over an hour -- I was exhausted. I was close to my hotel and started looking for somewhere to eat. I had already passed Sofia earlier and really didn't want to backtrack even a few blocks. But after going the wrong direction again and somehow ending up right back near it, I figured that was a sign. So, Sofia it was. My ordering skills in Italy are still not exactly professional level. I really need a local Italian to help me. Yeah, I'm slow... remember, I'm from the South. I ordered the Mezza Maniche Carbonara. I mean, you can't really go wrong with noodles, cheese, and pork, right? A few minutes after ordering, they brought out this little appetizer-looking thing that I'm still confused about. It was this tiny little ball about the size of my thumb. I took one bite and it was absolutely delicious. Honestly, I'm not even sure I want to know what was in it, but at that point I was hungry enough not to ask questions. Then the pasta arrived. Drumroll... First bite? Absolutely divine. Rich, creamy, cheesy pasta with perfectly cooked pork mixed throughout. Fantastic. I devoured the entire plate, chased it down with a Coke, grabbed my glass bottle of water, and walked down the street carrying it like a Roman wino. Great food, great atmosphere, and a perfect little outdoor dining setup on one of Rome's tiny city streets

Both pastas were fantastic with cheesy and creamy with a hint of spice from pepper. The pizza was awesome. If you enjoy thin crust or are carb sensitive this is for you. Our favorite dish there was an artichoke carpaccio which came with shavings of pecorino, olive oil, arugula, and lemon juice -- surprisingly good! Pasta was thick and chewy, so it was quite filling, and it came with plenty of sauce. They have a decent selection of coffee, beer, and wine as well.
