This is an excellent choice for a cheese tour that is off the beaten path and not nearly as touristy as the nearby Maison du Gruyere. It's a little deeper into the countryside in an area called Moleson. There is not a lot of English spoken but you can get by. The animals are right outside the building.
We first enjoyed a lunch of alpine macaroni (one portion easily enough for two people), though they have several other things on the menu. They have set times each day for visitors to watch cheesemaking, and it is done fully by hand with no automation. They prefer you to book tickets in advance (we did not). 10:00am is the standard time each day but we were able to watch at 11:00am. This cheesemaking experience is the real deal. There's also a DVD you can watch in the cheesemaking room--initially I rolled my eyes thinking that a cheese DVD would not be worth my time, but it was legitimately interesting and educational. You can pair your tour with a tasting if you'd like.
I am so glad we chose this place over its nearby competitor. I think we got a much more authentic experience at a family farm, and the staff was super friendly. read more
