Since moving back to NC I finally got around to going to get my Mexican food fix. Now I'm mad I didn't go sooner. Everything we ordered was delicious and we can't wait to go back. It was pretty busy but our food came quickly. I was pleasantly surprised because the storefront doesn't look very big so I didn't expect it to be very big inside, but it is and you can tell this is where all the local people eat. read more

We stopped in for lunch today when we were in Elkin. The interior is beautifully decorated and the restaurant appeared to be very clean. We were quickly seated. I ordered the chicken quesadilla verde and my husband had the large chicken quesadilla. We both enjoyed the food and service was great. They are located next to Harbor Freight In a strip center. Plenty of parking and easy to find. We will certainly plan to stop by again. read more

I've been here few times and its ok....today, my husband and i came in for lunch and i ordered the #1 - chile relleno, taco and beans. What i got was taco and beans. When i asked about the chile relleno the waiter said he didnt know why the menu read that way because it was not accurate....the beans are flavored with chile relleno and beef. What the heck does that mean? Flavored?....not good. Update....a waitress i spoke to about the food listed on menu vs what is served went back and had the chef make me a chile relleno. It was very small stuffed with cheese but for 4.00 and change i wasnt expecting big relleno for lunch... was just a craving. Took it to go as we were running late....took few bites when i got home and it was yummy....stars went from a 1 to 3 for making things right but they really need to evaluate menu listings vs whats actually served. read more

They Scrimp on Shrimp! The entre "La Playita" only has five small shrimp! The name means "Beach", and the first listed ingredient is Shrimp, but they serve a little rice and beans, and a fair amount of grilled chicken, but only FIVE shrimp. I don't know what has happened to this place. We used to go here every week and it was always consistently good. Went tonight and it was like a totally different restaurant. The food was cold when served. The salsa was runny. And I had to mop up a whole bunch of liquid out of my quesadilla plate. The food was bland. We couldn't even finish our meal. This restaurant exceeded my expectations, to start with the staff is friendly, we had a fast service, the menu has a lot of options for everyone in your party and the prices are pretty good . I am local. Many Mexican restaurants in the area come and go, but this one has stood the test of time. Much of the staff has been there 5 years or longer, and are very friendly and accommodating. Everyone speaks English, by the way. Service is always fast. I love their homemade salsa. It's mild, and even kids eat it because it's smooth, not chunky. Favorites include their fajitas, pollo Yucatan, and grande quesadillas. Prices have gradually increased over the years, of course, but I always know exactly what to expect. read more

The food was delicious. Our waitress was fairly new but super nice. I had pork carnitas (I just all places on how these are cooked) I must say that I got a generous amount and they were cooked to perfection. The beans and rice we also very good. Our drinks could have been refilled sooner but again she was young so we gave her some slack. We will definitely be coming back. read more

I enjoy the chips and salsa, and the cheese quesadillas and cheese enchiladas are my favorite menu items. The restaurant was authentically decorated. But the food was nothing exciting. I ordered 1/2 a shrimp chimichanga for $5. It was more than enough to get me full (considering I had eaten some nuts, wheat thins, and cheese just prior to coming), BUT it was smaller than what I would have expected. The food wasn't awful, but not great either. Just a bland burrito topped with a load of guacamole and sour cream. I ordered a churro for dessert, expecting it to be just a nice plain, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside churro. Boy was I wrong! It was drowned in disgustingly sweet strawberry and chocolate syrup. Topped with whip cream and a cherry. Ewwww! To make it worse, the churro was stale/chewy (if that is even possible to imagine). I don't think I'll be coming back here to get my Mexican food fix, sorry. read more

Tonight was the worst experience I have ever had at this restaurant. The food is pretty good and I love the margaritas. However, tonight was girls night out and we had a few drinks and maybe were a bit giggly and loud. When we got up to go the bathroom, leaving the table empty for a moment, someone cleared away our food and a shot of Patron. Those shots are $7.25 each. If the owners wanted us to leave they could have asked. We weren't drunk, but we were a bit tipsy. Still, our merriment did not warrant such passive aggressive behavior. I have always been a big tipper when dining out and I even once tipped $10 on a carryout order from La Fuentes because I like the food. Who does that? Seriously. I will not go back. They lost my patronage forever. read more

Very nice ambiance plus courteous service. But the food leaves a lot to be desired. Salsa and chips are good, and the carafe the salsa is served in, is generous as are the chips. This restaurant has Chili Rellano on the menu, which is supposed to be a big, green chili stuffed with cheese, breaded and fried. Instead, they place a spoonful of cooked ground beef with a few TINY chili fragments covered in thick, second-rate cheese. This was a great dissapointment. The tomale was very dry and not very flavorful. maybe other things on the menu are better; this place does appear to be quite popular with other local folks. read more

Great service, very nice decor. I wanted to give them 3.5 but yelp won't allow it. I had the steak Vallarta (t-bone and shrimp). It was pretty good, but not outstanding. I came with my mom and she got got the rancheros chefs special which she liked. I'd say the major selling point of this place is that they have good portions and it's pretty inexpensive. read more

I normally do not have take out from a Mexican restaurant due to the fact that I prefer a home cooked Mexican meal. However, I needed to get back into the office and decided to order out. The person on the other line stated it would take 10 minutes for my order to be done, which was perfect as it would take me 10 minutes to jump into my car and run out to get my order. When I arrive, there is a young man asking me what I ordered. I tell him my order and he laughs. Ok, so he thinks it's funny for what reason I don't know. He hands me the bill which I pay with a card and as soon as I sign off, he walks away leaving my meal beside the register and not even attempting to hand it to me. I have to reach over the bar to get my meal and walk out the door while tripping over an old carpet that is in the way. Mind you I only work 1 mile up the road so when I open my food to see a nasty brown guacamole covering my very soggy chimichanga, I was more than disappointed. Do these normally have a count of how many shrimp are in it? I counted them as I knew I would not be eating anything else in the plate and to my dismay there were only 5 shrimp cut in half. ONLY 5!!!! WOW! Having paid $12 and some change for this, I am never going back nor will I share with our Corporate people traveling to the area to eat at this place. Very disappointed and will continue to seek El Ahorro. read more

Honestly I've eaten at almost every Mexican place around and I can honestly say this place is pretty much down there with the worst on the bottom the biggest reason is customer service is horrible you might get attended to or you might not the menu on the table will not match what the total at checkout the quesadilla says $2.75 on the menu you get up there and charge you $4.00 for it where's the math there?? The thirsty Thursday's says clearly on the menu draft beer specials then when you ask they say no we don't do that just margaritas.... if that's soo take it off the menu also the lunch menu all 3 of us got charged $1.50-$2.00 on all of our plates then rung it up 3 times before they said this is your total and guess what it still was $6.00 off in overcharges place is a total rip off and there food kinda shows it too don't waste you money eat at el maguey in winston or one of the monte de Rey's atleast you get what you pay for and it's rung up right at check out wont be back read more

Would not recommend. Food was good until we got to the bottom of the chips and found a spring. Like a spring from a pen. How would that have tasted or felt in my 5 year Olds throat. On top of that for his birthday they would not sing unless he had whip cream on his face. He's 5. Not many 5 year Olds will go for this. Again I would not recommend. Our favorite Mexican restaurant in the world! Staff is so friendly, service is very attentive, they always deliver on special and exceptional requests. Very basic Mexican dishes, done very correctly, with generous portions, every visit. Prices are good, menu is huge, dining areas are cutely decorated; nothing sophisticated, but nothing ghastly either. The lone shining light in a dying shopping center. Let me just put this down in the order it happened: Waited 20 minutes to get our order taken, 1 of 2 drink orders was wrong, waitress was going to leave without taking 1 food order, food took another 20 minutes, 1 food order was wrong. Food is standard Mexican fare...nothing great. Service was muy mal. I'll never go back...especially with a Taco Bell in town. This place translates to "the fountain".
