This small spot was a bit of a surprise, though there were some pretty good reviews, mixed in with the not so good ones - in fact, 19 of the 25 reviews were 5 star! It is a small place, and frankly the inside is more than a little rough, and it is not the cleanest spot I've ever been to. It is located just off of S. State Street in the "downtown" area. But the food is generally decent and the service has been good as well. The salsa is very, very good, though I did get stale chips on one visit. I've been here several and have tried the California Burrito, the Pastor Torta, and the Carnitas. The burrito was well sized, I chose shredded chicken. The well filled flour tortilla was covered with a very tasty cheese sauce with a sprinkling of pico de gallo. The burrito did not contain French Fries as is the norm for this item! The Pastor Torta was also well filled with al pastor, onion, jalapeños and a Mayo spread on a sub like roll - this was a very nice sandwich. The Carnitas were nice done with some nice outside crust. The pork chunks were not plentiful, and there was a very small amount of guacamole salad and a few slices of jalapeño. Though it came with rice and beans, this was one of the smaller Carnita plates I have been served. I might drop in if in the area, but this is not a destination spot for me. read more

We happened to be in Yadkinville and wanted some Mexican food. This place got the highest rating in town. The menu said best Mexican food in town....probably the only Mexican restaurant in town then. I mean don't get me wrong the pastor tortas sandwich I got was pretty good, but the service was SLOW and the place was beat up with most seats having large tears in the vinyl and it was DIRTY. We were in the area and saw the reviews so stopped in for early dinner. The place was not very clean. The seats in almost each booth had bad rips in it, very unsightly. Under the table seemed like it was not swept for a while. My husband did enjoy his torta but one of my chilli rellenos was not cooked thru and I could not cut it. I was not crazy about the red sauce on top either..very bland. Good service and probably other dishes are good but I don't think I'll be back due to the condition of the restaurant and my inedible relleno. read more

First time experience. A good down to earth eatery. Came in hungry leaving pleasantly filled. Place doesn't look like much from the exterior. Surprised when walked in to find fuller than expected and to see the good amount of foot traffic. Think they do good take out also at least this Wednesday after 5pm. Lots of people (for the smaller size dinning room) having conversations and good laughter. I am liking the vibe at this time. Was expecting more rural , quieter feel. Menu has ample selections. My basic dish provided bountiful serving of refried beans so along with the taco and enchilada feel pleasantly satiated. Meat seasoning and texture were pleasant. Very impressed with the staff, hard working, efficient and wait staff pleasant and personalable. Toyed with giving this place 4 stars just based on the staff. I would come again if in the area and hungry. This place might have been a Dairy Queen or the like in a prior version. Has plenty of windows. So based on my 1 time experience I would recommend this place for down to earth times with down to earth people and environment. My kids and I went with a friend, and the first thing that started the whole experience was someone from the front glancing from their phone to see us before simply pointing at a booth. The place was quiet, which was perfectly fine. We waited a good while before someone came to even take a drink order, even though there was only one other person in the entire restaurant. Even then, it took the hostess, who was still on her phone, yelling at someone from the back to come to our table. My children got the quesadillas and fries, and I got ground beef tacos. The food came pretty quick, but as soon as I bit into my taco, I wish it hadn't. It was still undercooked and pink. I lost my appetite pretty quick after having that texture in my mouth. My wife came to my work to pick me up for our Friday lunch date. We are not sure how long we will be able to continue doing this as we get our lives settled in our new area. Each and every one of our lunch dates are very important to both of us. We decided to try Mexican in the area. I asked people at my work what the best Mexican food is and they said El Jarrito. My wife was researching on Yelp as well and suggested El Jarrito to me via text. I replied that is exactly what I heard. We had a place to go and my wife arrived to pick me up. A few minutes later we were at El Jarrito. They have an adequate parking lot and there is also a large lot next door with free parking. Upon entering, we could tell this place is frequented by locals who all knew it was delicious . We grabbed a table because we saw no "wait to be seated sign" and it's very casual. It is a very small place, they have about 7 booths and 4 tables in the middle. We were quickly brought menus and offered drinks. A short while later our drinks arrived and we were provided complimentary chips and salsa. We continued to peruse the menu. We both decided to get lunch special items. Our server who appeared to be taking care of the entire dining area came back to take our orders. My wife chose the steak fajitas and I decided to get the Pelusa. We chatted about the day as we waited a short time for our entrees to arrive. They looked really good. I was especially impressed with the melted cheese on the Palusa. My wife really enjoyed her fajitas as well and we both commented on the yummy flavor and inexpensive prices. This was a perfect stop for us in Yadkinville and we will definitely be back! read more

I've only dealt with this place for takeout. The interior isn't very impressive, but it's not the type of place I'd go for ambiance. The food has always been excellent. The tortas and quesadillas in particular are great, as well as the salsa. With the former, the portioning is great. I don't know how they make their refried beans (lard, I would guess), but they're fantastic. We've had limited experience with the service, but there was a mistake once and somebody came running out of the restaurant to fix it (we hadn't even discovered it yet, they did this on their own), and threw in extra salsa for the trouble. This place is soooo nasty, the whole atmosphere to customer service is poor. Idk how they even got 4.5 stars. Went for a plate we know is very common and we got more chorrizo then eggs. Plus we ordered more eggs and they charged us 1.99 per egg got it scrambled to add to our plate. The waitress was like high on something barely spoke. Recommended place for flavorful, affordable Mexican food. We placed an order for pick-up on a weekday afternoon. Lunch specials were available at the time so I ordered lunch special #7 (fried eggs, rice, salsa, and beans). It was spicy and very filling. The salsa was served on the side and cheese was mixed into the refried beans. The salsa was flavorful and fresh. We ordered a few other meals and each of us enjoyed our selected entrees. We also ordered medium queso. Highly recommend ordering queso. The medium is served in a styrofoam cup. It tastes great and you get a significant portion for the price.
