This place is excellent for the experienced and uninitiated alike. I'm not a frequent cigar smoker, so when I walk into La Herencia I feel helped and educated about cigars. The two times I've gone by myself, I simply tell the person inside what flavor profile I'm looking for and both times they've been able to guide me to a selection that does the trick. One downside... at a certain time of night the place becomes a night club. That part is annoying when all you want is a nice cigar. Staff is friendly. Good spot! read more

I was on a quest to find someone actually rolling cigars. I think there are only a couple stores where this actually happens and I was pointed in the direction of El Soy Cigars (La Herencia De Cuba), which is the oldest cigar store in Tampa. As soon as I walked in I knew I had found my place and I was greeted by cigar roller Laticia. With the help of the store clerk I was able to ask a few questions of Laticia, who speaks no English. I found out she rolls 120 cigars each day. She places a tobacco leaf on her desk, gathers a wad of Nicaraguan tobacco and rolls it by hand. Some of the time Laticia would sing a little tune. I had no idea what she was saying, but it sounded cheery. El Sol Cigars was started in 1929 by Guy & Mary Saitta. El Sol manufactures a complete line of premium, hand-rolled cigars in Tampa, Honduras, Nicaragua, & the Dominican Republic. I was too mesmerized by the process to actually buy one and I'm kicking myself for it. But it was so nice to witness, especially given the history of Ybor City. Don't miss it! read more

Excellent little cigar bar with unique drinks like whiskey served in an orange, rum served in coconuts and COCONUT MOJITOS. Did you just read coconut mojitos? Why yes you did, and you had better order one if you know what's good for you. so they muddle up a regular ole mojito and then throw in a generous dose of coconut milk, top it with coconut shavings and stick in a piece of raw sugar cane. Well played La Herencia De Cuba... Well played! The bar is interactive, so plan on being handed an instrument and being expected to shake your groove thang. Very nice atmosphere. The cigars are a little bit overpriced, in my opinion, but it's nice to know you're supporting a local mom and pop type business. read more

I love this place for what it is. Its is small and in my opinion true to it's roots. There is no food here but you can find one of the best mojito's i've had in Tampa! They even sure real sugar canes in their mojitos, which I love. Pro tip: chew on your sugar cane for a sweet treat. Aside from the great mojito's it is just a nice place to play dominos with some friends and have a few drinks. If you are into cigars you can do smoke your cigars at this location. At night it becomes a sort of Spanish lounge, which I happen to think its awesome. You can slip in and dance a quick merengue or a bachata before you get your night started or on your way out of Ybor. I think this place is a gem in Ybor. When you evaluate for what it is it truly deserves 5 stars. It's a place to stop in grab a quick drink and maybe play a quick hand of dominos or two. read more

We were looking for a place to purchase some hand-rolled cigars. We walked around Ybor City and didn't see anyone rolling. Plenty of places had hand-rolled cigars, but no one was actively rolling. We were just about to leave. Our car was parked out front. Somehow we had missed this a few hours earlier. Much to our delight, Roberto Ramirez was rolling torpedoes while we were there. Great place! Attended my first social dance with Tato Salsa Motion Dancin School. And I had so much fun. Was able to watch great dancers. Felt intemidated but I want to be at their level. To be able to dance like professional. DJ's were amazing playing the best salsa, cha cha cha and bachata music through out the party. I wasn't able to try there bar but definitely looking at the drinks that they are serving looks refreshing. A little bit small place for a huge group of people but hey you where there to enjoy dancing and when you dance you learn to compensate! read more

Went to this place last night. I'm from out of town and decided to give it a try becauSe the music sounded good from the outside. I'm a bartender and pretty familiar with most liquors. I ordered a shot of tequila for myself and my husband got whiskey. After we drank the shots, we both looked at each other and said the same exact thing, the alcohol tasted like water! I've never experienced something like this before but it was pretty disappointing! Would never step foot in this place again! read more

After my recent visit, I must knock this place down a star. I have never been ignored while trying to order a drink at a bar before. After a few friends ordered their drink, I stepped up to the bar. A man stepped to the side of the bar and hugged the bartender. He proceeds to order six coffees and continued to talk to the bartender. After standing there for fifteen minutes, I walked out of the bar. I know five white guys stepping into a Cuban cigar shop will not trump friends that cut customers in line to speak Spanish. But what I can tell you is these five guys can drink. And when we have visited La Herencia in the past, we held a pretty heavy bar tab. The mojitos are absolutely phenomenal, but after this experience, I'll have to look to my fellow Yelpers for new recommendations. read more

This is my go to place. Great music , great mojitos and great atmosphere. This place is exactly what the Latin lifestyle is all about, they have bongos which people play and Cuban cigars. I wish all ybor was like this place. When you are here you can have a great time. You see people of every culture walking in when they hear the good music. I Honestly Did not try their cigars but their bar is terrible. They advertised themselves as having the best mojitos but when I went in they had only no brands liquor! I spent 5 minutes looking for a cigar and nobody came in to help. I took a chance and picked one but when i went to the bar for a drink i was shocked at the lack of any brand name spirits. Really! No decent rum and forget a top shelf scotch. I put my cigar back and left empty handed. To top things off they tried to charge a cover charge of $5 on a Saturday night at 11 and the place was empty! read more

In the day it is a great place to buy cigars. You can see the people making the cigars there and selling immediately to you. In the night it is a funny Latin club in Ybor city. It is really small, but It's ok if you are in the area to make a stop there and have a drink. You will have fun for some minutes and then, you can keep walking In Ybor. read more

Fact: when I left La Herencia 12 minutes later, two members of my party had been punched by one of their "security" employees and were bleeding (yes the guy really is a bouncer there) Fact: the manager refused to give the police the guy's name (ummm, pretty sure it's on your payroll, fool) I guess this isn't really a review, more like a public safety warning.
