We ordered food to go. The highlight was the passion fruit drink. The potatoe ball was my favorite, not saying much. It was a fried mashed potatoe ball with some ground beef inside, pretty bland. Saved once again by a 24/7 restaurant. These stuffed potato balls are great--hard to beat fried potato. And they are larger than you think. The blood sausage has a savory, rich flavor palette. Review from a Puerto Rican de Aguada. The good: the oxtail was awesome. Really tasty. The bad: The fritters were not Puerto Rican. They were some sort of combination of Puerto Rican and south American and failed at both. We could not eat one alcapuria or one relleno. They also were greassy. Tastes nothing like the ones from Puerto Rico. The tostones were not crunchy but soft and squishy. And the rice and beans lacked the flavors of Puerto Rico. Well, this place is a small hole in the wall. We went 4/19/2024 at night. We ordered multiple dishes from Sancocho to white rice with and beans with pernil, alcaparras, and white rice and chicken. The food was great. Great puerto rican food. The service was a bit slow, not too many workers, for how much this place gets packed line was out the door and not too many seats available to sit in and dine. But, it doesn't take away from the great food they cook. We will definitely be back. read more

If you're looking for a quick fix to quench your thirst for some classic latin Caribbean food, this might be your spot! La isla has been around for many moons. It also has seen many staff members throughout the years but somehow seems to keep its originality in taste and appearance with the exception of changes to the recipes. I've visited them since I was a kid and still can find some gems when I walk in. Ordered out last night and had the pepper steak combo with white rice & beans alongside some avocado spears. My friend had the chicken soup with a side of the morcilla. The pepper steak was really tasty although I would've preferred a different cut of the protein but overall was pretty damn good for the price. Portions are always abundant at La isla, that's really what they've been known for. The chicken soup had a vibrant appearance and taste but a little too thick. The morcilla recipe was definitely altered and being wrapped in a plastic bag on delivery was definitely not a good idea. Soggy, wet and a bit too salty. I still recommend this spot over any other Latin American restaurant in the area since the flavors, portions and prices are very reasonable and realistic, just be mindful on what to order and use your judgement as far as whether to order out or eat in. My recommendation would be to eat in since fried food and treats do not do well in delivery conditions. Overall La isla is a classic must have if you're in bushwick or Williamsburg on Graham ave. Came late on a Thursday night at 9 and there was a line out the door. It moved pretty fast. We had freshly fried porkchop with white rice and beans. The rice was so good on it's own I could have made a meal of just the rice--if you know, you know. The porkchop were perfect. We had relleno de papa and relleno de maduro--also excellent. Tasty, perfectly seasoned and fresh. I'm guessing the amount of traffic keeps the food from sitting around getting stale. Not a fan of the pastelillos--just didn't have the flavor I'm accustomed to. Let's get to the good stuff: Place: 24/7!! located on the corner of the street, Parking is horrendous due to that BUT there is a bus stop out front so someone can easily just wait there for a quick minute and go around the block if a bus comes by. You can either dine in or take out (I recommend take out because of the sketchy people walking in). Make sure to bear right and order by the "take out" sign. You'll probably see a like form along the wall on the right. Food: delicious & super affordable. Chicharron de pollo (fried chicken chunks) - well seasoned and good on its own! You'll get a tray of literally, small fried chicken chunks that taste great. Yuca y cebellos (yuca with onions) - a staple in these type of spots. The yuca and the onions were cooked perfectly. Love that the yuca wasn't hard and that it was a soft chewy consistency. Everything came out to less than $10. Guy over the counter says next. I expected him to be rude and grumpy but he was very nice and helpful. I asked alot of questions. He explained everything to what he has. I come back every couple of weeks because I can't get enough of La Isla. My Go-Tos are the Rabo, Carne Guisado, Pollo, Chicharron and obviously the Rice n Beans. Everything is so good! The only thing I would not recommend is the Oreja but I think that is because my personal preference is the Asian way of prepping it where it's served cold and cooked in soy sauce.
