Me and my family had a the most boring day ever here. The waiters didn't write anything down and they have forgotten our beers like twice already and it was only two waiters this day. As for the place it's nice but the youngest sibling got scared of this alligator head bowl they have next to the fish tank. Update! The food was unusual...you see I got some shrimp tacos but once my food came. The shrimp still had that black line on them and they were kinda chewy, as for the tortillas they were placed in they were cold and chewy as well. The plate also had some rice that was chewy and cold, some fries were added to my plate and they were cold too. A small cup of salad came with the dish but once I looked at it the vegetables were brown! My dad got himself some seafood plate, and keep in mind my dad loves seafood but once he ate is meal he said he really didn't like it. Service was very friendly here! As soon as you walk into the restaurant, you can definitely see the Mexican authenticity from the atmosphere. First, my waitress served my table with chips and salsa. There were 2 kinds of salsa and limes. The green salsa was very spicy and very lime-y so be careful before taking a big bite of it! There were a lot of limes! I got the stuffed coconut with seafood. This came with shrimp, scallops, octopus, imitation crab, rice, salad, and fries. The portion size was very generous as I was not able to finish all of it. The shrimp was a tad bit over cooked but the flavoring was good. The coconut sauce wasn't too sweet or too creamy. Prior to this I made a review on a restaurant that I thought was the same company. There is a restaurant in Omaha with the same name and isn't affiliated in anyway. Today my husband and I stopped and ate at the bar. The service we received was amazing. We asked about the ingredients and the drinks and our server was so well informed. It was nice. Everyone that we seen come in was also very well attended to. Something that I like to see even it isn't us directly. Totally recommend this spot! The bar is and has a great selection! One word: Wow! I was truly blown away by this place. I had the rellano. 3 people could have eaten it. The flavor was on point, and the spice level perfect. A friend of mine and I went to La Isla for lunch. I was a little bit skeptical of the promise of a Mexican restaurant that specializes in seafood. Boy was I surprised. We started off with the Shrimp Empanadas. The smaller order came with 4 decently sized empanadas. I would wager that they were homemade and fried perfectly. The filling was tasty with a little bit of spice. The shrimp empanadas were also served with a spicy mayo sauce. The sauce complimented the empanadas very well. For the main dish, I ordered the seafood paella. Per the waiters suggestion, I ordered the small size. It was only like $17 so I did not have very high expectations. After eating our appetizer, they brought out my seafood paella dish. This wasn't a small dish, it was a platter. The portion of the paella was huge and the seafood in it was delicious. I still can't believe they put that much seafood in it. My paella had crab legs, mussels, clams, peeled shrimp, unpeeled shrimp, scallops, and octopus. The paella was a little bit spicier then I thought it would be, but next time I will just ask for it with a bit less spice. I ate as much of this seafood smorgasbord as I could, but I could not finish the whole dish. I will definitely be back again trying other things on the menu. read more

My wife and I went to La Isla for dinner last night. This is now one of our new favorite restaraunts. The food was delicious and the portions were very very generous. We had the Pina Rellena (Pineapple stuffed with Shrimp) and the Ranch style Shrimp. On top of that the complimentary Ceviche they serve was extremely tasty. When we first looked at the menu we thought that everything looked pricey. However when we received our food we understood why. The portions were huge. We ordered 2 entrees and it was enough food for 4 people. The server we had was one of the best I have ever had. She was extremely friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable on the menu. The small paella was more food than my friend and I (two grown men) could eat. Granted, we had just eaten half a dozen oysters on the half each and a bowl full of gratis tostadas served with ceviche. With the generous amount of food piled in front of us, it was difficult not to eat every last bite because it was fantastic! The best seafood restaurant in the Sioux City area! I will be returning tomorrow to try the langostinos and wash it down with one of their ridiculously huge drinks. I don't understand why the reviews are so high... I am an American who is new to the area & loves spicy mex food so I came here based on the reviews, big mistake. First the waitress didn't speak any English but good thing I came with my Puerto Rican friend although they still had a difficult time understanding each other & resorted to pointing to things on the menu. There are no descriptions to the preparation of most of the dishes & we couldn't communicate w the waitress so after looking over the menu for a good 25 min I just picked the shrimp la isla (spicy). Flavor wasn't too bad but they do not clean the shrimp b4 cooking!! What kind of seafood place serves shrimp filled with shit??? I couldn't believe it. And the dish is just a big bowl of shrimp with raw red onion on top garnished with tomato & cucumber around the bowl. No rice or anything came with it. Wtf? My friend got the fried red snapper (his came with fries, rice, & salad but there was not 1 drop of seasoning on his fish. There is more than 1 choice of preparation but he didn't expect it to be flavorless just cause we didn't order the garlic or other preparation. Not only that but once the food was dropped off the waitress never came back & we sat there for a good 30 min waiting on the bill then looked over & saw our waitress (the only one in the whole place) sitting down eating dinner! I ordered a piña colada (on my 21st birthday) & they didn't even ask for my ID. (ID!? White chicks voice) so I'm sitting there soooo fricken pissed. When we walked in there were only 2 people seated. We waited 5 mins before anyone came up to seat us. As they walked us to our booth we saw the workers were sitting down on their phones eating while a line formed up front, 2 groups showed up after us as we waited. After we had finished eating we waited another 10 mins to get a check but just ended up getting up and walking to the register where she finally gave it to us. The owner showed up shortly after to ring us up. She gave us attitude when we asked to split the check, keep in mind we had previously asked the waitress to split ithe check when we asked for to go boxes. WOW this place is awesome, took me by complete surprise. My partner keeps dragging me all over the sioux region to all these horrible places so i did not have high expectations for this place, But as the rule goes with mexican places. If they have good salsa they will have good food and this place had the best spiciest salsa ever! and as it turns out there food was really really good, I got the red snapper diabla...which i didnt think about them serving me the head and fins which really freaked me out but i pushed through and even though my meal was staring at me it was still amazing. This was a most delightful and Delicious dining experience! My senses lit up as if I was in the Penelope Cruz movie Woman On Top! We started off with fresh and feisty shrimp ceviche and moved along to the special of the day which was a red snapper. It was served Kora style with Plump shrimp and onion in a lovely sauce which I elected less spicy and my husband had hotter. We had the fried version which was so crispy it crunched! It was still mouthwatering tender. Yes, it was head on and bone in. My daughter had scrumptious huge shrimp blanketed in cheese ( not uggy) and bacon and all on ample platters of delicious rice salad and crisp fries! I was skeptical as I'm not a huge fan of seafood, but I do like shellfish. I ordered the queso shrimp, and it was really good. My husband got the bacon-wrapped shrimp, which was amazing. We also got steak fajitas as a "safe" alternative, and those were very simple (no seasoning), but they were good. The shells served with the fajitas were very good. I went there for lunch even though 2 * pricing is generally avoided before dinner. Although I'd suggest the creation of a lunch menu, I was thoroughly satisfied. Upon being seated I was provided with whole round fried corn tortillas and 3 small bowls. Hot green salsa, limes and ceviche. I grow peppers and make my own chipotle, sauces, powders and salsas so I know my way around heat. This did not disappoint! The ceviche was an impressive touch helping justify the higher pricing than the taquerias around the corner but that was only the beginning. I ordered the relleno. If you read this far you already know this is a seafood restaurant so it should come as no surprise this dish was made with seafood but the quantity and selection made my eyes pop. $18 is a bit much for a lunch item but worth every penny. Shrimp, crab, octopus and scallops buried the two poblanos that were not breaded to my surprise. It came out in a large casserole dish complete with salad, rice and fries. The salad was ok but the fries were the kind with a little batter, hot and crunchy to perfection, another delightful surprise. I left stuffed carrying a lasagna tin filled with my leftovers. Sure I'd recommend they create a lunch menu halving the prices and serving sizes but it's not my business and I left a happy customer, even with a $25 bill. read more
