Room was cute but there there were black curly hairs all over the bathroom (I'm bald and my girlfriend that joined me is blonde)...coffee maker had old coffee grounds in it and the fridge had old noodles in a Tupperware container. Furnace shook the floor/walls and was very loud. There was an uncomfortable daybed where a couch would have been preferred. Place sure looks cute - great character in the building and the gardens are eclectic and fun looking...poor execution makes this a place I will not revisit, which is unfortunate as it has potential.

Delicious breakfast of quiche & homemade muffins, fruit bowl with kiwi, apple, pear, watermelon, honey dew, banana, & blueberries topped with vanilla yogurt & a touch of granola, and wonderful coffee. A parking lot that is within view of most rooms. Quiet neighborhood close to both downtown CO Springs & Manitu Springs. A wine social to mingle with other guests upon check in. A collection of DVDs to borrow during your stay. Romance packages that include a dozen picture perfect roses, a bottle of champagne, breakfast en suite, and bubble bath. The Rocky Mountain Lodge was one of the first lodging options that popped up in my internet search, and, being on a tight budget, we mainly picked it because of the excellent price! Little did we know what a treat we were in for. The evening we arrived in Cascade, a long, winding, dark road led us up to this inviting lodge, bedazzled with magical Christmas lights and warmly-lit lanterns. In the office next door we found the innkeepers, Debbie and Brian, who happily greeted us and showed us around. The Lodge itself is amazing -- a wonderful and cozy building in excellent condition, with lovely rustic decor everywhere you turn. Already impressed with the place, we were pleasantly surprised to find there was a hot tub running outside (which we took advantage of, despite the cold November temperatures!) Our room was wonderful as well -- every last detail was attended to. Such a great place for a relaxing mountain getaway. I thought I was done with this review, but I nearly forgot about our complimentary breakfast. TO. DIE. FOR. Being the only two guests dining that morning, Debbie personally served the two of us an incredible three-course breakfast, with such accoutrements as homemade Devonshire cream, lemon curd, and peach preserves, made with locally-grown fruit. Delicious! It's awfully hard to have a bad day after dining on great food in such a serene setting, with such pleasant hosts. Thank you Brian and Debbie! I have stayed at Airbnbs all over the world (usually when traveling with a big group of friends),…read moreand while they may be a good option for a larger group - I think I definitely still prefer staying at hotels when I travel solo or with one friend or my spouse. Our Airbnb in New York had the power go out in the middle of the night and our hosts were way into the city at a show and couldn't get back to fix it for us. And their elderly mother started wandering around shouting for them, which was a bit uncomfortable. On the other hand, the AirBNB we rented in Portugal was gorgeous and had the Duoro River outside our window. And our most recent Airbnb was a gorgeous unit in Copenhagen near a lot of attractions and in a nice neighborhood. So there is good and bad in any of the properties/hosts. My only other big reason for choosing hotels over most Airbnbs is that you don't have a chore list to complete when checking out of a hotel. And it used to be that Airbnb was a cost effective alternative to hotels, but now they're right on par in cost (or even more!) So I think in the future, I would only book an Airbnb if I was traveling with a large group that needed separate rooms, or if there were no available hotels in the area.

I have often heard about seedy AirBnB places illegally placing hidden cameras in their properties. Some are unsanitary. I was persuaded by a couple of friends to try an AirBnB. My friend in Victoria often returns to the Beaches in Toronto. She has never had a problem and recommended that I carefully look at the reviews for each property. My other friend often stays at AirBnB properties when she goes on business trips. She finds them cheaper, especially when she is travelling with others. They split the cost of the bill. I have always stayed at hotels until my recent trip to Winnipeg. Hotels rooms were super expensive just before Canada Day. I had booked mine months in advance and the cost was still expensive. I turned to AirBnB and found a place in the Island Lakes (Saint Boniface) area that was perfect. It was 65% cheaper than staying at the hotel that I had booked in advance. Signing up for an AirBnB account was straightforward. I had to prove that I was me by taking a photo of any government-issued ID. I went with my passport. I took a photo and the site did a security scan. Done! I had an extremely responsive couple who were my AirBnB hosts. Communication was stellar. They asked that I text them a reminder through the app's chat to generate a code for the door. It was nice to have a code without dealing with keys or a keycard. I sent the reminder. They gave me the code and impeccable instructions on how to use the door. I never downloaded the AirBnB app. My chats were all through my phone's browser. You don't need it. I was supposed to arrive on June 30. Due to the WestJet pilot/engineer strike causing flight cancellations, which prompted WestJet customers to find alternatives with Air Canada (AC), I missed my AC flight due to issues at the airport, volume, and baggage system issues. It took me over an hour to drop off my luggage. I let my hosts know that I was going to be a day late through text on AirBnB's online site. They were sympathetic and appreciated that I let them know. All was great when I got there on Canada Day. Parking on the street was free. Most of the time, I got a parking spot steps away from the side door. The neighbourhood was safe and had lots of families. The photos on the site matched what I was looking at in this comfy basement apartment. I had to plug in the fridge, which had a few cans of pop and bottled water in it. I cracked open a mini can of Pepsi Zero after returning from Canada Day festivities. When I checked out, I replaced it with a full bottle of Circle K water. I was unpacking and couldn't find the bath towels. I sent a text to let my hosts know that I had arrived and asked where I could find the bath towels. The woman was kind to tell me they were in a bin in the bedroom. It wasn't in the instructions. She was kind to say that she'd come down and help out. We met. She was nice. I let her know that I found them. She was happy that I made it to Winnipeg. I thanked her for helping me out. It was the only time that I had a question. We both left each other alone during my eight-night stay (I paid for nine) at their place. I was comfortable. With kids, they do run around, but they eventually tire out well before I want to go to bed. The good thing was that I woke up roughly when the family did, so I didn't have any issues waking up to kids crying or upset. The electrical plugs were in weird spots where having an extension cord would have been helpful. I had a mini humidifier sit on a chair instead of the desk, for instance. Luckily, I had my fifteen-foot USB C cable to charge my phone by the TV, and it stretched to both the sofa and dining areas. I followed the instructions carefully. Eating on the couch or on the bed wasn't allowed. I made sure that I turned off all the lights, took all the trash to a designated place, and unplugged the fridge before I checked out. The bedroom was spacious. I liked all hangers in the closet for my clothes. No complaints. The washroom was clean. It could have used more shelving for toiletries. The shower had the perfect water pressure. It had shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I loved the washer and dryer. I used them several times. It was nice doing a load of laundry before I headed home. It was one less thing to deal with. The kitchenette was great. I only used the microwave and sink. They were perfect for my needs. Stairs led me to and from this place. The air conditioning was effective. It was all good. I let them know that I had checked out just before the 11 am time. I thanked them for having me. They reciprocated and wished me a good flight home. I'd stay here again. It felt like my home away from home. The hosts were nice and their place was comfy. (285)
