What an amazing find! Everything is so fresh and delicious. Tacos come 4 per order but for $1 more you can pick two types. If you order a burrito you actually get two of them so again you can get two different ones. Their chips are sooooo good. Greasy but to die for. I am actually happy when we finish them because otherwise I would keep on eating them. Just a heads up, La Mixteca is cash only! After doing two short hikes at Silas Condict Park, my friend and I came to La Mixteca feeling quite peckish... my friend ordered bistec (steak) tacos, which came with 4 tacos for $10. I ordered two chicken tacos and two chicken empanadas. We sat in the adjacent dining room and the food was brought out within a few minutes. The guy who we assumed is the owner or manager even brought out two cups with ice for us to share our bottle of Jarritos when I just asked him for a cup, which was very considerate! Our food was DELICIOUS - the meat was so tender and flavorful in both, and the green and red hot sauces that were brought out were so good. The empanadas were my personal favorite. The portions were great and we were stuffed despite barely eating breakfast that morning. The guy who was working there was so sweet and my friend and I wish we spoke more Spanish to be able to talk to him conversationally. Regardless, we would probably be back here weekly if we didn't live an hour away! read more

We've eaten here for takeout at least 5 times and i'm blown away at how good they are, if you want authentic Mexican in the butler/ bloomingdale area without the overpriced American influence ( LoL) then this is your game. This is reminiscent of the taco joints I frequented in the spanish neighborhoods in Queens, the Lengua tacos are great and are as the Birria tacos which they serve with consommé , some of the best flavored of its kind. With all of the restaurants around my area closing or changing ownership this is the only consistent choice right now! read more

We were in search for a Mexican place and oh boy did we hit the jackpot! This little gem has a great flavor in their dishes. I felt like grandma was back there making the food. Came here for dinner with 2 other guests and the restaurant wasn't to busy inside but the take out was busy. It seems take out is where they really thrive but I enjoyed the sit down experience as well. The dining area is small, maybe about 10 tables but the service was good and he the waiter was attentive. I got the tripe soup, and grilled chicken platter, my gf got the birria tacos, and her son got the quesadilla, we also shared guacamole and chips. The chips were really good, you can tell they were freshly made and was hot, the guacamole was tasty too. My dinner was great, the soup had great flavors and the tripe was tender. The chicken was flavorful and came with rice beans. Everyone else enjoyed their dinner, I even snuck a piece of the birria and it was really good. The meat was tender and the broth was delicious. What we got: - guacamole and chips: suuuper fresh and such good flavor. We ordered it spicy; I wouldn't say it was spicy per se but had a great flavor. Chips were crispy. Amazing combo. - steak tacos: 4 to an order. So simple but soooo yummy. Flavor was bomb. - chicken quesadilla: 3 giant pieces. Tortilla was crispy and the cheese was gooey. What more do you need? I normally like to (sometimes have to if the food isn't that good) use a ton of sour cream to enjoy my Mexican food. But not here! I didn't even use it. The food didn't need it. La Mixteca is now our go-to Mexican spot, replacing another one a little further away that we've been getting (but not really enjoying) for far too long. CASH ONLY. Staff is super friendly; placing a takeout order on the phone was super quick and easy. Some street parking if you need to run inside and grab your order. We decided to find the best tacos and due to the ratings we chose La Mixteca. Wow. We were so happy to be here. Walking in it looked like take out only but there is a very pleasant side seating area that offers a really nice dining experience above your typical small store front place. We ordered beef, pork, shrimp and pork skin tacos. Can't decide which were best but possibly both pork choices. Mildly flavored and the two home sauces - both green and red were delicious. We ordered chicken empanadas to try and a huge order of 4 came out. Delicious then, later that night, and reheated for lunch the next day!! A few patrons were eating these huge bowls of soup. Found out it was a shrimp soup and a daily special pork soup. Next time we will try - looked delish. Also found out they do a lamb special on Sundays and will try that next as well. Service was impeccable. The young man who helped us was super friendly and attentive and answered all our questions. This place is better than good. Mixteca is an awesome little "hole in the wall" that serves the best Mexican food my tongue has ever tasted. Everything is fresh, homemade, super filling, and at affordable prices. I really recommend trying their tacos. If you're a picky eater, steak and chicken can never go wrong. If you like to live life on the edge, there's even tongue tacos (mmmm). Saturdays are great because they have fantastic Caldo de Mariscos (seafood soup). This is one of those mom and pop places that are actually ran well. Wow I don't know how this place stays in business with the amount of food you get for your buck! I ran in her last week to grab some take out. Got the steak and onion dish. It was a generous portion and came with rice, beans, and homemade tortillas for $9!! I also asked for an order of empanadas which was maybe $3. How could you go wrong? Small dining room with a TV. I assume they do mostly take-out. When I got home I unpacked the food and found they had also given me salt, pepper, utensils, napkins and 2 different types of salsa. Also when I opened up the container with the empanadas they were on a bed of lettuce with half of sliced avocado and queso fresco sprinkled on top. I'm all about nice presentation. Food was good too. I want to try this place but there's never any parking in front on the street! The owners aren't smart enough to park somewhere else! It's the same white SUV's in front every day! I'm addicted to their tostadas with Tinga (heavenly shredded chicken and sweet onions in a gently spicy chipotle sauce piled High on top of handmade fresh fried corn tortillas and topped with crunchy lettuce and fresh white cotilla cheese). We come here frequently because their food is consistently delicious and the service is friendly and warm. Our favorites are the tacos and huaraches (chicken, steak, chicken tinga, and longaniza are out of this world.)
