Food was delivered on time and hot. Everyone of our guests raved about it! We had the DIY taco bar (chicken, with an additional tray of steak/peppers). It came with a tray of rice, a tray of beans, lettuce, pico de gaio, cheese and 20 tortilla per protein. We also added on a black bean and corn salad. Everything was fresh and tasty. I used to visit Chano's since the beginning due to working down the road from them. Visited today, after not going for a bit, find out original owners sold 2 years ago. Ordered Churrasco rice bowl. Meat def tastes different, rice changed with no cilantro, corn tastes bland. Chips still taste good. Overall not bad but definitely tastes different. read more

This place used to be so good then they slowly started adding more rice and less protein. We stopped going for about a year then received a coupon so we thought we would try it again. My vegetarian burrito which I made a vegan burrito was over $12 and is now much smaller than it used to be. It was also filled with meat. Very upsetting because again, I really liked the food. Good, clean (healthful) Mexican food. Their Baja fish burrito is my favorite, with brown rice and plenty of tender fish. The rice bowls are more than generous, with lots of great options (queso frito my favorite). The quesadillas are stuffed and plump with flavor. The soups are good, albeit a bit bland. Really great experience ordering for Super Bowl this year. We told the manager how many people we were going to have and he put together a perfect arrangement. He texted me a mock receipt to see how it looked and I said it looks perfect to me LETS DO IT. Food was delivered on time and was a smashing hit. Not sure who's writing these reviews but I tried Chanos last night for the first time and last! My boyfriend wasn't home last night and I decided to give Chanos a try since I get a menu at least once a week in my mailbox and reading the reviews I would've thought the food would've been well above par. I decided to get a few items to test the waters. I ordered the taquitos, One skirt steak taco and one shrimp taco, an ordee of nachos and the cheesecake bites. I had asked in the special instructions to put the nachos in a separate bag so they wouldn't get mushy. I wasn't in any hurry to receive the food since I planned on eating much later and I knew it was going to arrive cold anyway from what people mentioned in reviews. Huge mistake I should have tried it when it arrived luke warm; although I really don't think it would've mattered. I took everything out of the bag instead of just putting the chips in a bag they put all the components of the nachos in separate containers. I stood baffled looking at the food thinking this was $36 and they don't even give you any sauces with the tacos. I couldn't believe they crammed eight taquitos into a small plastic cup and we're no bigger than my pinky finger. When I tried to reheat them it became a hot mess. I heated up the taco (in the toaster oven) and took one bite and it was absolutely disgusting. Didn't seem like skirt steak at all. I didn't even attempt the shrimp one. The cheesecake bites didn't taste like cheesecake at all, it tasted like some type of pudding. The breadcrumbs were thicker than the amount of supposedly cheesecake mixture. It tasted very weird. The only thing that was good was the nachos since nothing was cooked and I put it together myself. The sauces were ok but not worth .49 and they don't even give you a regular size sauce container. I've never heard of a Mexican restaurant that doesn't give you a sauce for your taco. Food was in inedible! What a rip off $36 And it's sad since all the Mexican restaurants in our area below par. read more

This is our 3rd time ordering from here and it's been consistently good. My favorite is the Baja Fish Taco. The fish is a decent size and freshly cooked. It comes with jalapeño lime sauce which enhances the perfectly cooked crispy beer battered cod. The pulled pork carnitas taco is nicely stuffed with juicy pulled pork, red pickled onions, queso fresco & sliced avocado...it could use a thicker slice of avocado... the Árbol Pineapple sauce is not for the weary. Hubby ordered the Queso Frito Enchilada with salsa verde. They definitely don't skimp on the portion in this dish and it was very good. The cheese was fried then put into the tortilla, covered with salsa verde, & topped with crema, more cheese, onions & cilantro over a bed of rice...mmmm. We enjoyed every bite of our dinner as our tastebuds danced :) NOTE: sauces are spicy so start slow! read more

I was told we had been getting this menu in the mail for years, but this week was the first time I had seen it. I suggested we try it to get away from the usual pizza places and franchise Mexican places and convinced the family. We all selected. (See picture for order) The good... Very easy to order on line and delivery was on time. But after delivery, at first glance, we thought something was missing. Then we realized the sizes are mini. OK, no worries. This is one of my favorite places to order from - lunch and dinner. Some of my favorite menu items include the beef barbacoa burrito, beef barbacoa taco, buffalo chicken empanada, and rice bowl. Everything is homemade and authentic. Their soups are made with fresh ingredients and are some of the best I've tasted. Sometimes they are even 1/2 price! I am not exaggerating when I say we eat chanos multiple times a week. But recently, they must have changed ownership and recipes because literally within days, the quality went down hill to zero. 1) the Sonora salad lettuce changed and has a refrigerator taste, cheap lettuce, old and wilted and smelled terrible. The chicken was flavorless and the pieces were so small, it was like leftover from whatever they had. 2) rice bowl, ground beef tasted different, sauce is bland. 3) tostones were ROCK SOLID. Couldn't even bite into them they were so hard I threw them all out. To be honest, we threw our entire meal out which was over $30 . I am extremely disappointed. This place used to be authentic. You could taste the freshness and now you can tell low quality ingredients are being utilized. I really hope that the new owners try to keep the integrity of this restaurant. read more

I have been eating at Chanos ever since the original owner opened the original location in Pompton Lakes back around 2019. Since then, it has not been the same restaurant that I used to love. The food is still okay, although it has drastically decreased in quality with the change of owner. More importantly, the customer service and management have PLUMMETED with the change of ownership. With the decline in food quality, service, and management but an incline in prices I am left with the conclusion that they are not concerned about their customers experience and only care about the profits that we provide them. When you walk into a restaurant, you should be greeted and feel welcomed. The current staff is not very friendly and usually glued to their cell phones at the counter. The website is also very poorly put together. It makes you select a location when they only have 1 location, I have to verify myself 14 times to place an order, and the wording on their promotions is not clear at all. For example, they currently have a "buy 4 get 1 empanada free" promotion. (By the way the old owner did buy 3 get 1 free) I ordered 4 empanadas expecting to receive 5 according to the promotion only to find out that I have to order 5 - completely contradicting the promotion of buy FOUR get one free. When I inquired about the missing 5th empanada, they made it seem like I was unintelligent for not ordering 5 in a promotion that says order 4. Overall, Chanos has been downhill since the change of ownership and should definitely reevaluate the customer service they provide and the management in control. read more

Was eager to try Chanos again after having a few bland experiences, as a friend got me a gift card, but totally regretted it. It's Cinco de Mayo so I thought I would order early as I figured it might be busy. When I went to order online with my gift card a little before 5 pm, it wouldn't allow me to redeem the gift card unless it was below the balance. I was $10 over the balance and really wanted to use the gift card, so I opted to call instead. Unfortunately, they received too many orders by 5 pm and were closing for an hour. I was disappointed, but ok with waiting. The girl on the phone was super apologetic, clearly felt bad, and even told me to call back in 45 mins and they'll take my order. I appreciated her kind words and decided I should just wait the hour and then place my order. After waiting my hour to order, I called back at 6 pm and a different woman answered. I asked "are you open for orders now?" She scoffed and replied "definitely not". A little taken aback, I let her know I had called an hour ago, was denied and told to call back in an hour. I asked if when they can take my order and she replied "I have no idea". Totally understand it gets busy, (surprising that it's busy enough to close before 5 pm!), but it was really bad service to have me wait an hour and then basically told me I can't order. Even worse was by that time, being as it's Cinco de Mayo, it was way too late to order for any reasonable time from any other place. I tried to be patient and wait for Chanos and it ended up screwing all of our Cinco de Mayo dinner plans. If I didn't have a gift card I absolutely wouldn't be back. read more

I would give this place ZERO stars if I could. My husband and I used to love this place and when we moved out of the area, we would order only if we were in the area. BOTH times we ordered, they forgot our queso. We live about 35 minutes away and couldn't go back. When we called the second time this happened, the RUDE man i spoke with insinuated that I was lying about not getting my queso. He ultimately told me he would refund me half of the bill. Fast forward a week later, still no refund. HORRIBLE customer service, maybe they should stop hiring young kids who are stoned and could get an order right. read more

Pretty much everything is dry and flavorless. We just order the soups and guacamole now. I have given this place so many chances bc we once loved it. When a restaurant has to send you coupons and ads in the mail, you know its not doing well. The best places to eat dont waste $ on ads. When it first opened it was much better. Now its not run well. My co-workers have sworn by this place. Tonight I was working late and ordered dinner. I ordered the Mojo Churrasco Skirt Steak Quesadilla, an order of chips and guacamole, and a soda. I had zero issues with my order and it was delivered exactly as I wanted it. The steak was excellent. Clearly a good cut of meat, very flavorful, and cooked perfectly. My wife ordered a rice bowl. It lacked flavored and had too much rice. Not much of everything else. The 3 cheese empanadas we're not good, we didn't eat them. It was more like just american cheese empanadas. I ordered a burrito. Same thing, it had more rice than anything else. The rice was a little mushy and it barely had avocado. I was not a fan of their green sauce. It's like a blend of avocado, cilantro, and water. It was more liquid than sauce though. Try somewhere else. read more

Heard good things about this place so my family of 8 decided to give it a try. Had an old menu but figured we could work off of it. I called to make sure they delivered to my location and they did. 6 adults, 2 kids. We chose a variety of tacos, enchiladas, empanadas and soups. Each order came with a recommended sauce. Called and placed the order. 15 items. Asked if they would be able to label items so that we'd know what was what. They said it would be about an hour. Food came just under an hour. Delivery person was nice and helpful. The food WAS labeled and everything was delicious!!! The sauces were sweet or hot. The kids loved their meals and the adults were all very happy!!! So glad we finally gave this place a try!! We will definitely be ordering from them again!!! read more

I have to say they make some of the best soup in the area. 5 stars on soup alone. Fresh and delicious. Many other items range from ok to poor. I feel their food was previously better and has gone down hill. I tried a Cuban wrap from them about two months ago and it was inedible, soaked in oil and grease and mayonnaise or mayo heavy mustard, and it smelled like rancid oil. It went in the trash since I did not want to get sick. Tonight we placed an order on a random weeknight and it took about an hour and a half to show up. Everything was stone cold. Once the soup was heated it was great. The tacos were a soggy cold mess. The steak was tough and dry. The shrimp taco would have been great hot. The chicken taco had no flavor and was just sad. In the chicken taco, I nearly broke my tooth on something hard. It was an avocado stem!!! So 90 minutes for cold food and nearly ending up at the dentist tomorrow. Stick with the soup. Got their menu in the mail and was super excited when I looked through it. When I saw that sauce list I knew I had to try them. I ordered delivery which said 50 minutes and they were here within 40. I got the burrito which they made perfectly to my specifications. The steak and cheese empanada which was delicious. Yuca fries that were golden and crispy on the outside and warm mushy insides. The one thing I had a small issue with was the guacamole. Just a fair warning they do not give you chips with the appetizer guacamole. Now for the best part, THE SAUCES. I love EVERY SINGLE ONE. Well with the exception of the serrano sauce. Which is delicious, but fucking HOT. I'm not the biggest fan of spicy, but I had to try every single sauce to find out which ones I want to order next time. Beware of that sauce I was crying and my nose was running. It was a beautiful experience. Top 5: Cilantro sauce, Avocado sauce, Arbol Pineapple sauce, Aji sauce, and the Creamy Chipotle sauce Their salsa is amazing too, but not counting it as a sauce. Same great Chanos in a new location. A little smaller than the Pompton Lakes restaurant, so it's ideal for takeout/delivery. I sampled almost everything on the menu and nothing disappoints!
