Today I was craving a Milanese like my mom used to make at home. It's breaded steak or beef, often accompanied by beans and rice. I found this place not too close to my house, but it was worth the wait for my delivery. Just like I used to eat it, this order was delicious!!! It's totally homestyle. In my opinion, it's very well seasoned; they use just the right amount of oil and the portions are good. The green and red sauces are excellent (yummy). Almost forgot, prices are super fair!!! This small hole in the wal restaurant serves excellent authentic Mexican food. Mostly a take out spot due to them having only a handful of tables inside. That being said the staff is friendly and welcoming when eating in house. We got an order of guacamole, tacos and chicken mole, all of which was fabulous. The kicker was the home made tortillas which were to die for ! Will be coming back to try more of the menu. read more

If you want some fresh and authentic Mexican food, this is your place to go to! Now, I have nothing against Tex-Mex food but places don't highlight that part when you get somewhere and this is by far one of the most authentic places Ive been to. The inside was very clean and the staff was very nice, polite, and everyone was following the current COVID-19 guidelines. I ordered a "Pancita" which is a Mexican stew that consists of tripe (pork or beef). The broth has a nice kick to it as its a bit spicy since its made from Chiles Guajillo and Chiles de Arbol (both are peppers). Not to mention the meat was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing! I loved the freshly cut cilantro, limes and onion to put in the soup rather than other places that pre-bag their stuff. Posting this after ordering twice in one week. 10/10 chorizo tacos (crispy and so flavorful) el pastor (perfect hint of pineapple) and carnitas (super tender and clean). This is the only place we order from when we want Mexican food. No one else compares to la morenita. The food is always on time, hot, and the delivery guy is super friendly. The portions are huge and even my husband, who is a hearty eater, can get at least a second meal out of their portions. A while ago, we called them to order food (before they were on the delivery apps). The restaurant part was closed but they still took our order and drove the food to us. You really don't see this type of customer service anymore. They truly care about their customers and their service and food proves it. Order from here when you want the best Mexican food. I recently had a burrito, it was larger than other restaurants and fast food joints, yet it was authentic Mexican with fresh cilantro and diced chickenI would say a person could have two meals with the size of the portion that I received. Rest assured I am not a shill for this restaurant (and all the 4 & 5 star reviews are accurate), I'm just an ordinary guy who appreciates really well made food. This is not your typical local Tex/Mex restaurant by any means. I can honestly state that this is extremely authentic and perhaps the best Mexican food I've ever had! At this point there is no reason for me to patronize another Mexican restaurant in the area. I got the enchiladas verde (green sauce) last time with chicken this time with steak. The sauce was tangy and delicious, it's topped with fresh avocado and tomato with some kind of amazing cheese that does not overpower the dish. Any poor reviews like the guy who complained about his beef taco saying that he thought the cubed beef on his tacos was like Steak-Ums chopped up is just *dead wrong* or does not appreciate fine fare (the low reviews scattered in are obviously by some ignorant folk or people trying to hurt this amazing gem). The beef is cut into small cubes (which I love--not shredded) and the cubes are from real high-quality steak! The chicken was all delicious white meat. The tacos again are similar to the soft ones you find in Mexico in a good restaurant and served with a slice of lime and other amenities such as cilantro and sides of red and green sauces. I do not give out 5-star ratings often at all but this place is so amazing it deserves 5 full stars. Simply delicious and as I said, honestly, the best Mexican food I've eaten since I started eating Mexican food (about 40 years now!). It's not really a dine-in establishment as there is waitress service but just a small table or two--I don't care about this though. For food this good I am happy to do takeout. I suggest on a late Saturday afternoon you order there in person as they were too busy to answer the phone! It would seem many others agree with my assessment of this fare. The store front is clean and unassuming with limited parking in front of the restaurant and more nearby. The menu is quite varied and has many interesting non-typical dishes. I'm looking forward to trying many more and whatever you guys (the owners) are doing my hat is off to you for the truly exception dished you create! read more

This is a great family run authentic Mexican storefront restaurant. Very clean and seats 16 BUT does a big takeout business. We ate in and staff was helpful and friendly. Ok we started with Chicken Flautas that come with a huge mound of homemade Guacamole, which was amazing!!! Not too much onion or spice just perfectly executed. I don't know how people are giving this place bad reviews. This is the best authentic Mexican food I've had in a long time. I ordered enchiladas Rojas con bistec and it was soooo spicy and flavorful. I am so glad to finally find spicy good Mexican food around here. If people don't like the spice, or think their "customer service isn't good", go to one of the million other white people mexican places around here. I don't think my husband and I will be able to even try another Mexican place for a while... we will keep coming back here. The service here is horrific. We sat down and had 5 different parties come in after us, each one was served drinks and salsa way before anyone even spoke to us. We even waved the young woman down she acknowledged she hadn't served us yet and decided to take a phone call. When confronted about their service all we received was a "sorry". This is our second time here. The food is okay but their service stinks, bad. We will drive a little dither for better Mexican food next time. You would think with a restaurant in such a small town they would be grateful for the customer. This is not the case with this restaurant. Such a shame. The Hillsdale location is a hole in the wall. It is basically a long counter that could seat maybe ten people. There are also two tables of four in the back. Most of the food preparation is done right in front of the counter. They have two prep stations, fryer, broiler and grill. The only thing I have ever seen come out of the back kitchen is the mole for my enchiladas. Some guy brings the sauce out in a frying pan. It is then added to the enchiladas that were made in the front. You can get tortas, sopes (red or green), and tacos with ingredients such as cabeza (head meat), lengua (tongue) and cecina (dried meat) which you won't see on the Waldwick menu yet. They also have American favorites such as nachos, quesadilla, chicken/steak tacos, enchiladas etc. Around the corner they have a Mexican grocery store that sells fresh Mexican baked goods. I find comfort eating alone, when wife is out on her own, at the counter in Hillsdale eating the mole enchiladas, taco cabeza, taco lengua, taco chorizo, chicken torta with sour cream (not mayo) or the chicken or beef sopes. I like to wash it down with a Jarritos Mineragua. Service is very good . The business is both family owned and operated. They have a nice variety of Mexican beverages such as Jarritos and glass bottles of Mexican Coke (made with pure cane sugar as opposed to high fructose corn syrup). read more

Tiny place, blink and you will miss it. Next door to Ronnie's (terrible) Bagels. Excellent food, little seating. "Take out" is your best bet. Order and it'll be ready and waiting. All the food here is very good to excellent. The Derretido is a bit salty but worth it if you like spice. The chilaquiles are as good as you can get in Mexico and the tacos are $2.00 each, twice what they cost elsewhere but worth every delicious bite. GO there and enjoy. read more

My brother and his best friend have been loving this place for months. They finally let me in on this little secret. This place is a long hallway which features a long counter. All of the food is made right in front of you. I have never eaten here, but have always gotten take out. My absolutely favorite is the chorizo, followed closely by the carne enchilada tacos. Saw on google they had amazing reviews, and I typically order from the place right around the corner once a week but their wait is always over an hour so I figured I'd try something new. First off the women on the phone when I called was rude, I asked for huevos rancheros you'd think I asked for her to solve world hunger the way she responded and what I got was a soft shell taco with an egg on top swimming in the hottest salsa I've ever had and nothing else, no cheese, no ham, or anything just an egg swimming in green fire salsa. Beyond the spice the food was somehow still very very bland, rice and beans had zero flavor not even a pinch of salt, and to top it off the salsa tasted like tomato water and sugar. Best authentic mexican taco's in NJ. Hands down. I've been to this place 4 or 5 times now since I discovered it. Ive tried every authentic taco they make and I can honestly say I have never been disappointed. Churrizo and Carnitas are my favorite but steak and chicken are very good. I even tried the cow head and tongue which were awesome but I cant bring myself to order anything but the Churrizo and carnitas anymore. Me and a few friends are making it a habbit to get these every time we hang at my place to watch the MMA fights on the weekends. I really wanted to like this place and support a local business. I can say the server was very nice but now I know why it was empty on a saturday night. We ordered steak fajitas which were not steak, they were little squares of steakumm type beef with chopped bacon and cheese melted on top. I've been eating fajitas for decades and never in my life have they come with bacon and cheese. It was way too greasy and the bacon was chewy and rubbery. We got a cheese quesadilla which came in the shape of 3 cheese tacos standing up and the tortillas were deep fried, pale and spongy dripping with oil. The guacamole tasted good but had chunks too big to pick up on a small chip and we ended up leaving it uneaten. I could have made these better at home (and I have many times) I want to support local businesses but this one needs more work. This was the result of a very inexperienced fry cook.
