They have a great selection of meats and veggies and it's nothing outrageous. They have a great cold cuts counter with a bunch of people working so you don't have to wait like you would at the iga counter plus meat wise is not comparable. Seriously, walking in I suddenly felt like I was transported to the food shops I used to go to with my mom back in the 1970s as a kid in small-town Quebec. With Montreal Canadians and vintage Quebecois memorabilia, it's really not hard to imagine what a real Mom and Pop stores on Main Street used to look like before giant supermarkets and mega stores drove them out of business. This place has absolutely everything to address your poultry needs and then some. The chickens are all grain-fed and sourced locally in Quebec. I haven't tried the sausages yet but they sure looked tempting. You'll get the same quality of meat here as you would as more expensive locations at Atwater Market or Jean Talon Market - minus the insane markups. I'm glad Verdun still has many shops like these.

The chicken they sell is grain feed and from Quebec, so it's the good stuff. They also have a selection of cheeses and pates, which are nice to round-out a meal. Another thing I like to go there for is their marinated steaks, all of which are good (my favourite is the spicey one). They also have minced horse meat, which is great for burgers. If you're in the neighbourhood or live not to far, and want fantastic quality meats, then you need to come here.

I found Fruiterie Val-Mont on Google, and loved it the moment I walked in. (In the US, there really aren't small corner stores with this level of product diversity and quality. Beyond that, the people are so nice, and the layout of the store, despite it's small size, makes it easy to wend your way through and get your shopping done. They have an extensive fruit and vegetable section. But some of the other departments were the real surprise. An incredible selection of cheeses, pates, meats, and wine, as well as spices and other lovely things. Since I"m staying in an apartment, I'm reconsidering going out to eat so much! Overall, I'm a fan of patronizing small, neighborhood stores who serve a local community. But this store is a real treasure. I'm sure I'll be back tomorrow, and probably the day after.

Prices aren't dirt cheap, but they're comparable to the big shops for most things, and often lower on produce, which tends to be better quality here too. Often, you can get big packages of fruits for $1 on special, which is how I like to roll, especially in smoothie season. Yum, yum.

It is nice to walk around and see the local produce and seasonal bounty. I usually get some maple syrup in a can to bring back home for friends. I like it in a can. It travels well and it has a photo of the old Quebec sugar house on the front.

So the owner bought the business from a guy that used to be quite sloppy and lacked in cleaniness. Well the current owner revamped that and is clean and listening and trying lot of stuff and is always serving people, always rolling his stock and that's a very good thing to hear about a place where freshness is everything...or Almost. There's also quality and variety. And you he hold 60 kinds of sausages / chorizos / gendarme/ peppeto. Also a pretty interesting selection of Gluten Free sausages. The owner and his wife as pretty much always working there and being successful at it. They have love for what they do. They serve some food in the Marché de l'Ouest food court like burgers and european hotdog with home made fries. Cheap deal for quick eating. I won't go into details about every sausages I've tried there, but I have to say that half would sound about right. I like their Gluten Free sauvages, especially because it's Game Meat and I LOVE GAME MEAT. Also they have some good gluten free breakfast sausages, nothing like you would normally taste. J'aime les options de saucisses fumés, la Debreziner est piquante et bonne, la fumée au fromage suisse, superbe. J'aime les classiques comme Italienne, toulouses et saucisse de déjeuner particulièrement bonne. Bonne quantités de saucisses naturelles sans additifs chimique. C'est ça qui fait que t'achètes de la saucisse a un Saucissier VS un super marché ou une «boucherie moyenne». C'est vraiment une bonne place où l'on peut se procurer des Burgers ou des hot dog européens avec des frites maison! Vraiment très bonne! Vraiment un bon marché, pas cher. The marinade is very simple (oil, paprika, steak spice, salt, pepper) and not overpowering. With a cast-iron pan and some animal fat for frying, you can make a restaurant quality meal in no time. Another great thing about this place are the wonderful Italian products they import. The other day, Dino had me try some special Mortadella he had imported (the name escapes me). It was soft, perfectly flavoured and melt-in-your mouth good. If you're looking for a butcher in the Plateau/Mile-End, look no further. Chez Vito ranks among the top 3 butchers in the city and his prices are very reasonable.
