I Love Latina! It's such a cute grocery store. They have lots of good pre-made meals, speciality treats, homemade pasta,and home made sauces and soups. They are also very eco friendly. Make no mistake, this is a high-end épicerie/grocery store. Yes, they sell quite a lot of prepared foods, but the bulk of the items are fresh fruit and veg, canned and dry goods, frozen foods, pasta, dairy, etc. Limited organic foods. More Dean + Deluca than Intermarché or BioTerre (which is across the street). It has a HUGE cheese selection and a wonderful butcher for french cuts (filet, contre filet, onglet, bavette.) Meat is NOT grass-fed, though. Small, curated selection of wine and beer. Big chocolate section. Expensive. Very friendly and helpful staff. Rating Scale: 1 Star: Avoid the town in which this place is located just to be safe. 2 Star: With so many great places to choose from, why risk this one? 3 Star: I'll try it again or consume here in a pinch. 4 Star: I go here regularly if financially and/or calorically feasible. 5 Star: I look forward to taking my wife or friends here. read more

My favourite grocery place in the area. I moved and still do a 20 min walk (40 if we include the walk back) to go there. The service is great, the pre-cooked meals are delicious. I highly recommend their fresh quiches, their frozen spinash & cheese canellonis as well as their to-go sandwiches that they custom make for you. Their cheese selection is awesome and their butcher too. The only negatives are that it's a bit pricy and their fruits & vegetables aren't better than at other places (so I'd recommend buying those elsewhere). read more

Delicious little neighborhood grocery store and butcher shop with a different name. I'd like to hear the story of why this place is called Chez Latina. I came here by chance as I like to explore and peruse the Mille end neighbourhood. Definitely a high end place with many prepared meals, cheese and a great looking small time butcher shop. Not a place I'd shop at every week (unless I was to win a lottery or get a big raise at work) as the pricing here definitely is a premium. It sure is a great place to zip up the fridge condiment selection or treat yourself to some specialty items. I have to take it easy as the fridge door in my place is full and I have a rule to make room before I buy more. They do have some high quality jarred items plus canned, spices, jams and jellies plus sauces. These neighbourhood grocery stores are a dying breed but a good local following can keep this place going (which looks like the case) for many years. For a neighborhood grocer, this place has a nice mix of gourmet and regular fare. Prices seemed reasonable across the board for this type of grocer. Surprises: - good selection of (legit) fleur de sel at reasonable prices ($6-9). - frozen dessert from Fauchon (gourmet store in Paris) in the back corner - good selection of local microbrew / artisanale beers Glad I stopped in. Latina has many specialty items that I appreciate very much when I visit Montreal and am staying nearby. They have an extensive selection of olive oils and vinegars, many frozen meals that I assume they prepare in-house as well as an extensive array of cheeses and meats that again are butchered on site. It's definitely a bit expensive and I was disappointed in the cheese that I selected from the case that had some extra mold (not the good kind) growing on it and which I had to trim myself - that's something that a good cheese department should keep tabs on, in my opinion. I like the fresh pasta and the Latina sauces - they're both very tasty and make for a good, quick and easy meal. Limited organic selection but that seems pretty common in Montreal. read more

While staying in Mile End for a couple of weeks, this became our easy goto place to pick up odds and ends for the apartment. Need some yogurt and granola for breakfast? They got it. Need some odds and ends for a picnic lunch? They got some yummy things. Way more going on here than I had time to explore. Explored the craft beer a bit with their nice selection near the check out. Wine selection is kind of limited. Prices seemed very reasonable here. Actually the yogurt was cheaper here than the markets over on Parc. Basic sundries (cleaning items, paper goods, cooking oil etc) are limited or absent but it really isn't that sort of place anyways. But if you are looking for an interesting selection of olive oils for your next salad or interesting coffee, then this is your place. Didn't get a chance to try out the meats, but everything looked top notch. Got a few cheese here and were very nice. This is the kind of place that is getting rare and rarer, so be sure to treat it like the gem it is. read more

Apparently English speakers and employees at this restaurant are not welcomed as per the owner who told employees that they could only speak to themselves in French. The employee quit in disgust and I will stop going here as long as that policy is in place. read more

Latina provides a great mix of specialty imported goods and delicious Italian and French cuisine prepared in-house and ready to take home. They have a refrigerated section of ready-made dishes to take-and-bake, or just order something heated and ready from the deli section for lunch. A selection of local cheeses, meats, drinks and a fruits-vegetables section make this an excellent all-around grocery as well. Try the fresh pasta and I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

I accidentally found this cool little niche store when walking around the Mile End neighborhood. Inside is a small selection of pate, cheese, baguettes, etc. There are a lot of specialty stuff like oils, mustards, etc. Check out their website. The people were friendly and helpful. read more

Excellent and unpretentious selection of gourmet foods. The fish guy was really patient, explained everything to us and gave us lots of tastes to help us decide what to buy. We got some really excellent Irish lox to go with our Fairmount bagels for the most perfect picnic you can imagine. Love this place! read more

UNTRUSTWORTHY WITH EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE - Placed an internet order from overseas for my son who is student at Mc Gill, before opening hours on on December 16th. Within minutes the transaction went through my bank and I was charged on my credit card. My son did not receive his gift. On Monday, after 4 days I wrote to the shop and they told me there was a mistake with my billing address and also needed my the telephone and address of my bank as it was an overseas order. (wonder why they never contacted me first?) I gave all the necessary information and still my son received no gift. I wrote emails that were not answered. I called and left messages. Finally yesterday I received a mail telling me they could not process the order. Very strange. I have paid for the order. They have my money- my bank has checked. Latina also told me to contact my bank and get the order cancelled. My bank told me that this is Latina's responsibility. This is also extremely disappointing as now only two days before Christmas and I have to look for another gift. Seems like 75 dollars down the drain or a long legal haggle. read more
