Food- one of my favorite meals while in Mexico City! We didn't order much because we were full from a meal before but ordered what we could. What we got: MUST HAVE AGAIN: 1. If you like octopus: Tacos de carnitas de pulpo (fried octopus carnitas). This didn't seem fried but oh my gosh it was SO tender and fresh and flavorful! Our whole table LOVED this. Highly recommend. 2. Scallop tostadas!! SO fresh/refreshing! 3. Fig Tart- It was so good! Tasted kind of like a fig cheesecake. We heard it was the most popular desert and got lucky because our waiter Edgar saved it for us!! Thank you so much Edgar! Tasty but would go for something else next time: 1. Tacos de esmedregal al pastor: Al pastor fish, onions, cilantro, pineapple I didn't get the soft shell crab taco but heard it was delicious so thought I'd toss that here!

It melted in my mouth almost like custard, in such a delicious way, and the flavor was perfect. WOW! The hot chocolate is also delicious, and frothed/served table side. Not too sweet. It was still their breakfast menu so we got mole enchiladas and some sort of enmolados with salsa verde. I preferred the latter, but it didn't have as much chicken on it as I'd like. I'd come back just for the sweet bread.

This spot is perfect for a date night but the food was just okay. I liked everything we tried, except for the fish which was a bit dry. Service could be improved though, or maybe it was just our server. She was pretty short with us and cleaned our plates quickly (which I normally wouldn't mind but I was just getting used to the slower pace of Mexico City, where dining can take as long as you want it to). Then when the bill came, she demanded a 15% or 20% tip, when every other place we had been to ASKED if we wanted to tip and started at 10%. This was a bit of a turnoff and left a bad taste in our mouths as we left. That said, I really appreciated how clearly those items were labeled--it set expectations upfront and made ordering easier given our schedule. The space itself is beautiful with an open, airy ambience that immediately sets the tone. We were started off with complimentary crispy tortillas served with both red and green salsas--a simple but very welcome touch. For food, my kids ordered the lime soup and the penne al chipotle, both of which they really enjoyed. My husband and I went for the tortas: he chose the Bacalao a la Veracruzana and I had the Cangrejo de Concha Suave. Both were delicious, with a unique twist on the classic flavors. My husband also had a cocktail that he loved. Overall, a solid experience with great food and atmosphere. This is definitely a place I'd return to when I can slow down and savor it properly.

The prices are elevated as you could imagine for being in such a unique location. We just stopped for a snack and to experience the cave. So got 2 beers an americano, quesadilla and corn cakes with chicken. The quesadillas were made with a Mexican Oaxaca cheese instead the cheddar and Monterey Jack that's found in the states. So it was quite good. The corn cakes were sopes. I know what sopes are but I didn't know they they were translated into corn cakes. That's the problem with translating it into English. We got them with chicken they were also quite good. The corn cake base was tender, I'm used to them being hard and rubbery so it was nice to finally enjoy a sope. Service was prompt and friendly, there was a tablet with English which made it easy. The prices are high but it's the type of place that you go for the experience.

The vanilla pan dulce also tasted a little stale. On the other hand, the fruta mixta was fresh and one of the better parts of the meal. The setting is unique, which makes this place stand out. Eating inside a cave creates a cool atmosphere that you do not get at a typical restaurant. However, the food does not match the price point.
