We arrive at 5 pm on a Friday and it was already attracting a crowd. We were offered a Splendid table on the 2nd floor patio overlooking the main drag (and beyond to the ski slopes) with most welcomed and precious shade. We were ably and courteously served by Max (who has an unmistakable laugh) who guided us along each step of a great meal without hurry. He recommended the split of a most pleasantly surprising Pinot Grigio (the one at the top of the list) that started us perfectly as we considered the menu. What was first served was the best octopus EVER! Tender, not chewy, in a splendid lightly spiced olive oil that we were encourage to sop up with the focaccia, which was lightly toasted. Entrees delivered included a veal scallopine that was topped with a thin slice of pancetta and a white very thin cheese slice. Creamed but stiff mashed potatoes and a garlic sautéed spinach were well matched to the veal. My wife had the Crevette pasta with a side of the same spinach which she enjoyed judged by the few remnants left of either. We spent with tip $100 each. Not bad for Vail Center! Google takes you to the front of another restaurant at street level. La Noona is on the second floor with it's entrance located back from the intersection 300' +/- up a wee bit off a wide pedestrian alley. read more

DO NOT SKIP THIS AMAZING RESTAURANT! I am so excited to have been able to get in and sit on the patio while visiting Vail. You really can tell the love and attention the chef gives to every dish that comes out of the kitchen. The ingredients are locally sourced and the flavors are simply amazing. We stared with the house-made Focaccia bread. Light and airy, this was a marvelous start to the meal. We opted for the special of the day, melon (so much flavor and juicy) with fresh cut prosciutto (if you're near the kitchen you can see them cut it right there). If this was my last meal on earth I would be happy. The other special of the day we ordered was the porcini mushroom with tagliatelle pasta. The mushroom flavors were on point, with an earthy/nutty flavor. The pasta was perfectly al dente and complimented the butter/olive oil sauce. The best pasta dish of the night goes to the zucchini pasta. I was hesitant to try this one, but now I want to recreate it in my kitchen. This was summer in a dish. The sweet corn, fresh heirloom tomatoes, green beans and ricotta made me want seconds. This dish is not heavy, and I love pasta, but this dish really satisfies. Solid Italian spot in Vail Village! La Nonna seems to be the only real quality Italian spot in Vail Village. The night I was there it was packed at 6pm. So much so that a small cramped spot at the bar was the only thing available. Like most restaurant sin the village, they all shut down for nearly a month by mid-October just before the ski season onslaught. Luckily this was literally one week from their annual closing. It doesn't "speak" Italian with the decor or music, but the vibe of the place is completely "locals" feeling. The calamari was spot on, as was the accompanying marinara sauce. Their pasta and bolognese sauce was really good, perhaps not great, but I left with the idea that most items on their menu are probably pretty good. Everything about the dinner was spectacular, the service, food, vibe, and timeliness. Expect to pay higher prices for the higher end quality. Had a fantastic night here last month. We made a reservation the day before and luckily got a spot. Arriving to the building was very easy as it is on the pedestrian walkway in Vail Village. It is on the second floor with a beautiful view of the mountain. We started with bread red wine. The selection was excellent but I really forgot the name. The bread was sufficient. As vegetarians we ordered the Gemelli pasta with vodka sauce, as well as the mud shroom ravioli. Our waiter was nice enough to give us some great recommendations. The food was tasty and well balanced. My girlfriend found the pasta a bit light in sauce. I thought my dish was flavorful and nutty with a well crafted pasta shell. Despite the fact it's still hard to get a table, it's weird to say the quality really went down in 23/24. Four meals here have all been bad this season. Gluey, overcooked, cold pastas. Bad attitude at the hostess stand upon arrival. Lackluster table service. It's vail and I'm ok spending a small fortune on a decent dinner, but they were 0-4 this winter/spring season. How can I find more stars to give this place. Living in Vegas, we are used to 5-star dining opportunities, but La Nonna in Vail is among the best places we have had the pleasure to dine at. Starting with the Carpaccio di Manzo. This was the freshest, tastiest, and smoothest carpaccio. Amazing and flavourful. We loved it. Pairing with that was the Calamarri Fritti. Ugh! The two dishes were phenominal, and I could keep eating until I was 400 pounds. So good! Then, after all that, they brought out the main dish, Risotto Mare. This was incredible. The Risotto was just right, al dente with tons of seafood to acompany it. Now, let me tell you how this place is among the best. My son is one of the pickiest eaters and he devoured his plate of Linguine Pasta with Pomodoro sauce. He even learned how to spin the spaghetti with his fork on the spoon. I am a very proud dad!!! We added the Pulpo alla Brace after all this and my wife, coming from a place that specializes in fresh grilled Octopus said this was the best she has ever had, better than anything from Ensenada. Wow!!! Never heard her say anything in contrast about the food from her hometown until now. That speaks very highly about the fiod here. read more

I'll keep this brief - we are locals who work in the service industry and we absolutely love La Nonna, Mira/Heather/the team are usually great. Our server was an older red-haired lady, and frankly we didn't catch her name because the service was cafeteria quality and she was looking right through us. As service workers ourselves, we fully understand having a bad night and how awful it can be to dote on strangers, but she was extremely engaged and on top of the table next to us, and we had to ask other staff for various things because our server was so checked-out and left before we could even talk to her. The issue is that it was my birthday and we had our parents with us, and we left La Nonna feeling pretty embarassed that we hyped the restaurant up so much. The real reason for this review is that my parents insisted on tipping 10% despite us explaining why these nights sometimes happen. So we're sorry for that, despite a disappointing server we'd happily tip more knowing how this industry works. But also, maybe offer to comp something besides dessert that we already didn't want or order? Hugging the table next to us after clearing unfinished drinks + forks out of our hands is pretty shitty, and offering a lifeless apology sucks for a birthday dinner (not that she would've known given her lack of presence). The decor felt dated and the restaurant lacked a warm ambiance. They were doing an excellent job of social distancing and the tables were spaced far apart. We started with the calamari and carpaccio. The calamari was fried in a light batter and was tasty. The carpaccio was okay but was lacking a bit in flavor. For the main dishes, we ordered the Gemelli alla Vodka e Prosciutto and Ravioli Tre Funghi. Both pastas were delicious. The gemelli had an excellent sauce that was light and tasty. The pasta shape really worked well to get all of the sauce up in the noodles! The ravioli was thin and delicate. The mushroom flavor was really bold which I loved. The sauce was flavorful but very rich! A full plate would have been too much for me. Other people with us really enjoyed their meals. My dad said the special he ordered was the best veal he'd ever had! We finished off the meal with tiramisu and chocolate mousse. Both were delicious and decadent. My husband and I decided to go here for our first night in Vail based on the good reviews but we were sorely disappointed. The whole air of the restaurant is very aloof, we were dressed very well and still felt out of place. When you walk in the door they basically make you check your coat. Our waiter was fine but not very attentive, didn't explain anything on the menu or make recommendations. For starters we had the focaccia which was fine and the burrata which was very lackluster for a $25 plate. It came with 2 flimsy crackers and we ended up being glad we had the focaccia to eat most of the cheese with. For mains we split the gnocchi and then the seafood risotto. The gnocchi was pretty good but very small dish. The risotto was not good at all, the Arborio rice tasted more like your standard rice rather than the chewy, creamy texture it should taste like. The sauce it was in lacked flavor and the seafood it came with was all over cooked. For this much money we could've had a much tastier meal somewhere else. Don't waste your money here! read more

Came here for the first time this week and it is now one of our all time favorites in Vail! The room we set in had the perfect ambiance and our waitress was beyond nice. I ordered one of the specials, halibut, and was blown away by how delicious it was. Our entire tables meal was a 10/10, including dessert. We had such a great time eating here last night! We were staying at beaver creek but my girlfriend loves Italian food and has been wanting to come here for a really long time so we drove the short 20 mins to Vail. The village has a free parking garage (after 4pm) and it's only a 3 min walk to the restaurant. As soon as you walk into La Nonna there's a coat check. From there you walk upstairs and you're greeted by what seems like your family. Everyone is so friendly and ready to make your experience amazing. Our servers name was Alena and let me tell you something... she was THE nicest, MOST helpful, MOST cheerful person you've ever met! She really did do everything she could to make sure our dinner was the best it could be. Now for dinner. To start.. for someone who's not super familiar with Italian, this menu was stressful.. You basically need a translator just to figure out what's what.. Though I can see how it would be fun and part of the experience for most people. We started off with some bread and oil (FOCACCIA del GIORNO). For my meal I ordered the TAGLIATELLE VERDI al CINGHIALE. It was really good but personally not one of my favorite dishes. I think I would have really enjoyed the GNOCCHI alla BOLOGNESE, It looked amazing! My girlfriend got the RAVIOLI TRE FUNGHI which was soooo good. For dessert we got the the chocolate mousse and the tiramisu. Both were absolutely amazing. One very important tip if you're wanting to try this restaurant.. Make reservations way ahead of time. It was 6 degrees outside and it would have been so nice to have it served warm. That type of special touch is what was missing from this restaurant. Because of that, our waitress was not attentive, short with us, never took the menus from the table (even though we even asked once and were told she would come back and get them...she was too busy?) High quality meal worth your time and money. Atmosphere (4/5): La Nonna features a warm and inviting aesthetic with their open concept kitchen and wooden accents and exposed beams. The restaurant is extremely clean and well kept. The reason I am docking a star is because It seems the restaurant is not wheelchair accessible and the bar was a bit cramped. Food (5/5): My fiancé and I split the focaccia and the misto mare alla griglia as our antipasti per the recommendation of the server. We weren't disappointed as the bread was warm and airy, while the misto mare was fresh and delightful. For our entrees, I ordered the Gemelli and he the gnocchi. Both pastas were fresh and so soft. Our sauces tasted authentic and hearty. The pasta came out piping hot (no complaints here!) so just be warned if you have a sensitivity to temperature. We both agreed the gemelli reigned superior as it was creamy and well balanced. Be sure to add shrimp if you want an extra protein! Desserts; you're probably wondering how we even had room. To be honest, I'm not sure but we made room. We had the tiramisu and creme brûlée. Both desserts weren't overly sweet and were airy and rich. We shared a delicious arugula (rucola) salad, had great bread rolls and focaccia, and the had two different pasta dishes. One olive oil, arugula and tomatoes. The other mushroom ravioli.
