Very unassuming place, was not sure whether to go in or go somewhere else, so glad I went in. Greeted by a very nice gentleman who seated us where a very nice waiter was more than helpful in choosing what to eat. All I can say is we ordered quite a lot of food and it was very affordable. It is a wonderful surprise to go to two good restaurants in La Spezia. The big difference between two are: One is romantic and delicate but pricy. The La Nuova Spezia is good for family and less than half of the prize. An incredible 10 euros for about 30+ mussels! Value, yes. Best ever, no. Small meat, about 6 closed shells, and could have used a lot more garlic for my taste. [10 euros, 4.0 stars] The gf got the Grilled Sea Bass with potatoes, fresh tomatoes, and white wine, and she totally loved it. Again, incredible value. [10 euros, 4.5 stars] For dessert, we got the Tiramisu. Served in a glass, it was more like a custard and lady fingers with sprinkled cocoa and cinnamon. Maybe they brought the wrong item to us, but it was too darn good to question. Overall, I really liked. The restaurant has an older diner feel, not nice in any fashion. The place is extremely good value. The owners are very nice and friendly. Their recommendation can be a great reference if you don't know what you want. The lobster tagliolini was recommended, but we wanted to try the one with pesto sauce. The spaghetti is good, it's just that the seafood risotto recommended was fantastic so we regret so much that we didn't order the lobster tagliolini. The seafood is very fresh. The tiramisu is fantastic. There's no cell signal in the restaurant, or probably just with our seat. The air conditioning wasn't on. The cover charge is €3 per person. It seems a bit pricey. However, they have some bread with tomato and seafood sauce and some drink at the end on the house. Also, the other food, especially the main courses, have very reasonable price. Great place in La Spezia!! I went there both nights of my stay! The food is so delicious! And the service is top notch! Now their English may not be of native fluency but boy do they try! I speak absolutely no Italian but I was able to converse with Angelo and his team with ease about my peanut (Aracidi in Italian) allergy on the first day and he made sure to remember the next time I was there without me even saying anything!! Love love love this place. Great food. Excellent service. Very friendly owner. Just love everything about this. We were very lucky to find this place anvery happy with our food choices. The owner was very nice, though we had a language barrier, he had no problem communicating (and making jokes ). The desserts Pannacotta and Tiramisu were the best we've ever had. We left this place in a good mood and was ready for our Cinque Terre hike. We actually considered coming back for dinner, but decided to explore instead. Favorite restaurant in La Spezia! The food is SO fresh...we saw one of the staff go outside and return with a bouquet of freshly picked herbs. The smell was amazing and drifted through the room while he walked through. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Definitely my go-to for down to earth, fresh, delicious food when I'm traveling in this area. I've never had a bad meal here, but some favorites are the spaghetti carbonara, pasta with artichokes and mushrooms, Parma ham with buffalo mozzarella, and the strawberries with ice cream! Went there twice during our 3 night stay. First night, the 4 of us decided to let the owner Francesco make suggestions. We felt like fish and seafood. He didn't disappoint. Everything came our hot, fresh and above all tasty. He brought out a variety of local fish and seafood. We made a reservation for two nights later and asked that he prepare Florentine steak. We showed up the second time where he brought out 3 pasta dishes to share and a side of fried eggplant and local seasonal mushrooms and the large steak. Steak was a bit on the rare side so he took it back for some additional cooking. Everything was delicious. If you spend any time in La Spezia, go eat there. You won't be disappointed. Visited here tonight by suggestion and loved every minute! At first look into the restaurant they appeared to not be any guests but as we walked in we found there were other rooms as part of the restaurant. The owner was the friendliest and brought many "presents" to our table - appetizers of anchovies and seafood bruschetta, chocolate cake with raspberry sorbet, cafe, and limoncello. Every group that walked in the door was treated as family and we witnessed many "presents" being brought to each of their tables. I ordered the highly recommended special, per the owner - baked Seabass and veggies - so creamy and fresh. My wife ordered the homemade tagliatelle with lobster, also amazing. We were fortunate enough to bump into an extremely engaging couple (Bernie and Dawn) from Canada who invited my wife, son, and myself to join them at La Nuova Spezia for dinner for what they described as the best seafood and service in La Spezia. We were not sure if we could make it after trying to fit in some of Cingue Terra that day but made it to the restaurant before they finished there meal and was able to join them where they had been dining each and every night at this restaurant for each of the 4 or 5 nights they were staying in the area. Let me say that we were not disappointed and Dawn and Bernie were spot on as describing the restaurant as one of the best seafood experiences in Italy. They were returning from a visit 5 years prior and the owner even remembered them. As for ambience, this is a local restaurant with more local clientele than touristy and located not far from the marina. The restaurant is a 2nd generation of a fisherman/restaurant family that fish each day and serve what the catch providing an incredible opportunity to take advantage of what is freshest of the day. This is a restaurant that targets the local residents and aims to provide you with excellent fresh food at a reasonable price founded by principles passed down a generation. One of the owner/brother's (Angelo) was incredibly hospitable and went above and beyond. With Angelo's limited English and my limited Italian, we were still able to communicate in a fun and enjoyable manner that we did not experience in all places we traveled. After informing Angelo of my gluten free allergy, Angelo went above and beyond to bring us mostly dishes that did not contain gluten and also brought some dishes containing gluten for my son/wife but would make certain that I knew what I could not eat. We did not order off of the menu but simply asked Angelo to bring what he thought we would like in a family style setting and we were not disappointed. After 10 days in Italy while traveling Rome, Florence, Venice, and Milan, we all ranked La Nuova Spezia as our favorite dining experience of the trip . My two friends and I were staying in La Spezia for a few days, and I found La Nuova Spezia on Yelp and decided to give it a try. It was an amazing meal and a great experience, at a very low price! I don't know why Yelp shows this place as being 3 Euro signs, because it's not expensive at all. Our meal was under 60 € for 3 of us. We had the ravioli with nut sauce, the spaghetti bolognaise, the mussels with garlic and parsley, the grilled fish, and the fried calimari. The ravioli was delicious and the most outstanding dish we had, and everything else was great. The fish, mussels and calimari were simple but tasty and prepared very nicely, and everything arrived very quickly. The spaghetti was slightly al dente and was a very nice dish. We also had the house red wine, and although we aren't big wine drinkers, we all liked it! Angelo the owner was maybe the highlight of our experience, though. He was SO nice, jovial and friendly with us; we don't know Italian, but he didn't skip a beat and made us feel really at home and welcome, which we appreciated a lot. Very high cover charge for bread €3 per person - even higher than Restaurants in Milan for better quality food and lemoncelo included. Well I'm a person that likes to see it to believe it. I read the reviews and thought to myself can't be a five.. well I had seafood fried squid, kids had spaghetti and wife had macaroni. Let's just say I ate some of there's and first off the macaroni taste amazing the cheese is so real if u can get what I'm saying. The squid was cooked to melting perfection. OMG! If you want an authentic food experience here in La Spezia then this is the place! We went here for lunch. All of the customers were locals except for us. The prices were reasonable and the food was exceptional, perfectly prepared, fresh, and generous. Our only mistake was we ordered too much but we just finished the amazing leftovers tonight. This wasn't just eating, it was an experience. The house red wine was fantastic. I would call it full bodied but fruity and fresh with a slight sparkle to it. The table olive oil was flavorful and fresh. There was also a condiment of homemade preserved hot red peppers in olive oil that was served in a jelly jar on the table. It was delicious on everything! So many things happened here that you don't see in restaurants. The chef came out of the kitchen many times to see the customers enjoying the food. Whole fresh fish were brought out of the kitchen with pride before cooking to show off their freshness. When it was time to leave I hugged our server. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and found La Nuova Spezia on Yelp. It was one of the most memorable dining experiences we have ever had. The owner and his brother came to our table many times to give us food to sample. We love seafood and everything was super fresh. We met the fisherman who works for La Nuova on our way to finding the restaurant. We were the first ones there and were treated like royalty. The creamy Lemon-cello and Blackberry homemade liqueurs were delish too! When I go back to La Spezia next year, I'm definitely returning to La Nuova!
