This was my first night in La Spezia and I wanted to try some seafood pasta. I found Bella Napoli and have it a try. It's conveniently located by the train station and they have SOOO much variety to choose from. I ordered the spaghetti with clams and a coke, and tiramisu for dessert. The service was fast and friendly and my server gave me a great recommendation. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly, move and tender, not over cooked, not soft, and the SAUCE WAS TO DIE FOR. We are at this restaurant all three nights we were in La Spezia. We couldn't bring ourselves to go anywhere else. The first two nights we ate at the restaurant. It's a pretty large place so even if it's busy, you shouldn't have to wait, or at least too long. There is an English menu available, but my advice is to check out the special boards that are written in chalk on a blackboard in each room. They have really good (and inexpensive house wine that you can purchase by the liter) Their gluten free food options were really amazing. If you can get their gluten free focaccia, I think it's better than anything with gluten in this world (heads up it's very salty... worth it!) The staff is really kind! And if you go multiple times, they'll remember you. If you go in to order take out on a weekend, heads up, it'll be chaotic, possibly a little scary if you don't speak Italian. Put in your order with one of the hostesses and ask her to put your name on it. Hang out in the lobby, they'll notice you standing there and eventually ask which order is yours and give you a nod when your order is ready. We were worried they'd forget about us in all the chaos, but they are very good at what they do and there must be a method to their madness. It was not easy to find a reasonable priced Italian local place to feed a company of nine and everyone loves the meal. Bella Napoli killed it for us. I was a little hesitant when i located this place on Yelp and walked into an area looked only residential. The sitting was a bit challenging as well. After we told them we had 9 and no reservation, they didn't really explain much if they have a table for us or not. After very long 7 minutes, we were hurried in and sitting in a lobby with only fans in 86F. I ordered everything for the table: appetizers: Grilled Veggie and cold seafood dish. First and secondi: Margarita pizza, clam spaghetti in red sauce, clam spaghetti in white sauce, seafood Risotto, Grilled chicken, and Grilled steak, As we were sitting down pass 8:45pm, I didn't think it was possible to finish everything but OK we pack some for the next day. To my Surprise, we finished everything including complimentary focaccia bread, the garnishment like salad leaves. Everyone loved clam spaghetti in white sauce and clam spaghetti in red sauce. White had very strong seafood pure flavor and red added a bit tomato to balance it off. Grilled chicken was extremely tender with very peppery layer on the top. Somehow they just knew we loved medium rare steak so just served like that. Pizza was their strong item which I loved the dough. We could see all locals were having one pizza per person at the table. Services were not as attentive as you'd expect at an American Italian restaurant. She was supper busy. Our dishes came fairly quickly after the order was placed. The dinner bill came as half of our lunch bill. We all in the agreement to come here again the next day. read more

Best Gluten-free pizza crust I have had yet in Italy. one of the best Gluten-free pizza crusts I've ever had. (I'm from Seattle, so there are some great gluten free options near my home). That said, I strongly recommend being careful about the toppings you choose. I had mushrooms and ham on mine. the mushrooms were clearly canned and the combo of ham and canned mushrooms left a lot of liquid on my pizza. This is not good for gluten-free crusts. Also, the house wine was sun-par. Overall, a great place for gluten-free pizza! I highly recommend this place. But not everything here was amazing. So be intentional about what you order. read more

This place seems like a local spot and was some of the best pizza we had. A little away from the main area for shops and restaurants but worth the walk! We went for pizza at 930 one night and the place was packed for both sit down and takeout (they also do delivery). We took this as a good sign and since there was only 2 of us they squeezed us in quickly. The have a ton of options and are happy to give suggestions of their favorites if you can't choose and they did not lead us wrong! And every pizza item has the option of getting it in a pizza or a pinsa...a pinsa is a thicker crust, less crispy base than a pizza. Definitely worth trying both and deciding your favorite. The house wine comes in a jug and was very good. We enjoyed it so much that we came back with our friends later that week. The 007 pizza was our favorite! Cheap and delicious, definitely worth it if you're staying in the area. read more

Great local place that made really good pizza at a great price. There was 4 of us and we split 2 pizzas. They are fairly large and it was enough. We ordered one specialty pizza and the vegetarian one. The specialty was 8.00 euros and the other was 6.50. There were over 30 different pizzas to choose from and many that were only 5 euros. We all liked them. Then we had the tiramisu to finish off dinner. This was definitely not a touristy place and there were many locals that were coming in by the front door to get their pizza to go. We chose to sit inside and I think they may have charged us 1 euro per person for that. I would recommend this place for sure. The wait staff was efficient and friendly enough. read more

Decent pizzas if you're looking for more quantity vs quality and a fairly inexpensive meal. Came here based on high Yelp/Trip Advisor reviews and limited options for lunch in La Spezia before catching a train. We ordered 2 pizzas, the 007 (6.5 euros) and the Gamberetti (shrimp, 8 euros). Both were fine, nothing outstanding. The 007 was a bit bland and would have been great with a tomato sauce and more basil to really tie it together. The Gamberetti was a bit better with arugula adding a lot of flavour; unfortunately the shrimp was small and sparse. Fortunately the crusts for both pizzas were pretty good, thin with a good chewiness. The restaurant itself was quite large and had quite a few groups of local Italians eating pastas and seafood. The wine was average and very cheap, we had 1/4 litre of the white wine for only 2.5 euros. Overall a safe choice if you're looking for a filling meal near the train station. read more

This place is great. I got the feeling that this is a local place. While there was one table of tourists, besides us, it seemed like it was primarily local families there for a night out. This was our first night in La Spezia after two nights in Venice and two nights in Florence. This was the best dining experience we have had yet. We were worn out from spending our evening in Monterosso and we had some trouble finding the place (Apple maps are not so good in Italy try Google maps instead). We called ahead by 15 minutes to reserve a table. He spoke English and accepted our reservation for five people. I don't think this is necessary because it's a big place. There were four vegans in our party of five and one of the vegans is also gluten free. We ordered the house red wine and it was good. We actually went the following night and had the white and it was better. I believe that the white is grown locally. We started with a chickpea dish that is sort of like a pancake and it was very good. I recommend giving this a try. I would also recommend a pizza they serve with fresh arugula on top, very tasty . We had it without cheese but it normally comes with cheese. Between the two nights we had, pizza with and without cheese, gnocchi, spaghetti with pesto, spaghetti with tomato sauce and salads. All of it was delicious. If you have any limitations ask specifically on each dish about what the dish contains. They serve a sort of lemon sorbet with a small amount of liquor in it for dessert which I recommend giving a try. He also brought us out what he called a melon version of a limoncello. I highly recommend giving this a try, very good taste from beginning to end. The rather amazing part of the night was when the check came. For five people including entrees, two dessert and a liter of wine the price was only €52. I don't know if I have ever had a sit down meal, for five, for that price in the states. Sadly the map on Yelp led us down the wrong path the first night we tried to go to La Bella Napoli, so be sure to follow the address! We found it on our last night in La Spezia. The restaurant was bustling and the wait staff was still helpful and prompt. We had a mixed antipasto plate, meat and seafood that was just delicious. My boyfriend had a seafood pasta and I had a pizza. They were accommodating of my allergy to dairy, and my cheese-less pizza was still the best I had in Italy! Crazy busy when we walked in. Good sign. Many waiting for takeout pizza, plus delivery guys on motorbikes we're flying. Got seated right away. The place was an experience. Very loud, as Italians can be. Service very fast, but one of our dishes, a pizza, was very late. That said, food was amazing. My gnocchi was some of the best I've had. After dinner cappuccino excellent. Waitress did her best to look after us, as they were over worked. Prices very good. All in all, a unique and La Spezia dinner. I can usually count on yelpers, but this time I was let down. This is a local pizza joint -- a lot of their business is takeout and delivery. And I will say that the pizza was pretty good. So if you want to order a pizza this place makes sense, but otherwise, don't bother. It is out of the way (though convenient to the train station), lacks ambiance and the dishes other than pizza are just not very good (we had a salad with lots of rotting pieces of lettuce, their house-made ravioli very disappointing.) The folks who work there are very nice, but service wasn't great. So many wonderful meals to be had in Italy, this was a bit of a waste. Oh well. read more
