I don't usually venture this far West on McLeod Road, but I happened to be driving by one day, and…read morethe words "European Deli" caught my eye. Europe is, of course, a big place, but past experience has taught me that I'm much more likely to find the goodies I came to know and love in Croatia and Bosnia in a place with "European Deli" in the the name than in your basic average grocery store. At the time, I was in a hurry, but now that I knew that the place was there, I promised myself that I'd go back and investigate when I had more time. A later inspection of the outside of the store revealed a couple of photos of products that I know and love: Podravka Vegeta and Kraš Napolitanska. Better yet, there are the magic words "chevaps" and "burek" right on the front of the store. The inside did not disappoint. Quite the contrary, it was better than I even dared hope. Many of my favourite brands and products are on the shelves: ajvar, pašteta, višnija (sour cherry) syrup, chevaps (or, as I know them, ćevapi) in the freezer. (Plus a bunch of cookies and chocolate that I shouldn't even be looking at these days. I love them, but my doctor is on my case to get my blood sugar down.) To my surprise and delight, they even have mlinci, which is a rare find. Most recently, I took my sweetie there. They are still open, although they're limited to only having five customers in the store at a time. But what really made that trip worthwhile was the glass case with a familiar-looking baked item inside. The clerk saw me eyeing it, and said, "It's a cheese pie. We call it burek." I was so thrilled, I had to order two portions right away. Once my sweetie tried it, she couldn't stop saying, "This is so good!" (Okay, granted, some stores do sell "Twisters", which are quite similar, but this was the style that I was first introduced to, and still my favourite.) I am so happy to have found this place. Now I have a reliable source of some of my favourite goodies.

I visited here over the week of the 22nd of October 2010, while coming home from Canada's Niagara…read morefalls. This restuarant was on the American Side. This place was pretty good for an outdoor buffet. The nice warm pita bread they bring to your table is just right, and I think the little sparrow that I threw a few pieces to also would concur. The lentils were divine and the chicken with just the right amount of heat from the curry was excellent. Now as much as I love buffets for what they are, I have never seen one for Indian food so of course I was elated. BUT, what I didn't like (and maybe this is the reason they get 3 stars), was that I did notice that the same paper plates were used every time someone would go up to serve themselves another plate. I did ask and the waiter did say I could use the same plate, but working for the Health Department, I quickly let him know, "I would rather use a new plate thank you". He did let me do that, but by than my appetite starting changing since I am really funny with people touching the utensils to their plates. Sorry, but this is why you get 3 stars, but the food was a good (less than 7) selections. Not a bad spot for a quick bite.

Typical tourist trap…read more This place is now called Village of India From the cashier counter, where you prepay for the buffet, you can see two steam tables toward the back of the fairly large room. After paying, I discovered that only one of the tables was in use, and then only a fairly small selection of foods, and that mediocre at best. I think you are meant to mistakenly believe that the selection is much larger than it is. For $12.99 for lunch at other Indian restaurants (in Corning for example) I have found a much wider selection of dishes that were much tastier and I did not have to eat off of cheap paper plates. It is clear that this place does not expect you to ever come back again, and their food and ambiance shows it.
