Later, when they came by to ask if we wanted another round of drinks, we were told the bar also closes at 10:00 PM.. Around 10:15 PM, while we were still seated outside, staff locked the restaurant doors and turned off the lights while we were seated on the patio. Shortly afterward, a staff member told us we needed to leave and took our drinks, even though mine was still full. The issue isn't that the kitchen or bar closes at 10:00 PM--it's the lack of clear and consistent communication. If customers are expected to finish up and leave by 10:00 PM, that expectation should be clearly stated online, posted on the door, and communicated upfront when guests are seated. The current closing times are inconsistent and create a confusing and disappointing experience. Also the guac and margarita were lacking.

The white salsa was the most flavorful--seemed like a sour cream, lime, and garlic concoction. The red and green salsas had a little heat but were a bit watery and bland. I ordered the tacos al carbon. The beef was chopped, well seasoned, and tender, just as described on the menu. It was a solid meal--nothing that completely wowed me, but nothing overly disappointing either. Overall, the food was better than okay, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the restaurant handled a very large group reasonably well. I'd come back and give Costa Messa another try, maybe during dinner to see how the experience compares.

To my unfortunate surprise, there was a sign on the door saying they were temporarily closed. I tried calling the restaurant with no answer. How disappointing. Their online hours said they were open. I had to walk half a mile up the street to another restaurant in the hot sun to prevent from having to wait and pay for another lyft. Only positive was that I some exercise. If you're going to be closed, you should update your hours or have a voicemail saying so. To note: I did call ahead of time with no answer. I saw recent reviews, which led me to believe they were open.
