Finished a Vatican City tour and was looking for a bite to eat. Found Pancia Felice and was so happy to have had lunch here. The ambiance of the location is nice with indoor and outdoor seating available. We ordered the Spaghetti with Basil and the homemade lasagna and both dishes were excellent. The cheeseburger was awful. Can't speak to anything else on the menu. But whatever you do, skip the cheeseburger. It was a very small, tasteless, reddish colored patty that looked like it came from the freezer and we couldn't even swear it was real meat. The bun was too big for the patty and so dry that it just fell apart as you tried to eat it. The fries were good though. Service was good. read more

Relaxed spot with indoor and outdoor seating. There are no heating lamps but the lights outside are really pretty. There's a flower wall on the restaurant too that'll look nice during the daytime. The waiters speak limited English but it's still good for tourists and locals. We tried the oxtail, carbonara pizza, diavola pizza, and spaghetti bolognese. My mom absolutely loved the bolognese. The pizza was decent, and the oxtail was a good change from the typical pizza/pasta. They forgot to bring out the bread for the oxtail, but that was fine. Credit cards accepted. read more

What a great place to celebrate our first visit to Rome! We stumbled in, hungry and overwhelmed, and left completely satisfied and renewed. The service was excellent. The food was even better! Abbiamo ordinato una Costata di manzo con contorno per 45 euro, una birra (7 euro), un Mojito (12 euro) e acqua (2 euro). Dopo 10 minuti, ci è stato detto che il Mojito era esaurito e a mia moglie è stato offerto uno Spritz per 10 euro. Ha accettato di cambiarlo. Nello stesso momento, ci hanno portato acqua e due birre. Abbiamo ordinato una birra, quindi il cameriere ha ripreso l'altra. Dopo altri 10 minuti, il cameriere è tornato con la notizia che la bistecca era esaurita e ci ha suggerito un altro tipo di bistecca, una Taglilata di manzo, per 28 euro. Anche noi abbiamo accettato. Dopo altri 10 minuti, è arrivata la bistecca. La qualità lasciava molto a desiderare: la carne era dura, fibrosa, con venature dure e gelatinose, e non era calda. Dopo aver mangiato, abbiamo chiesto il conto. Era di 78,50 euro. Il conto conteneva tutti i piatti della prima ordinazione, quella più costosa, più una seconda birra, che il cameriere ha ritirato. Non sono state apportate modifiche all'ordine. Hanno chiesto un sovrapprezzo. Mia moglie è andata a lamentarsi. Dato che non parliamo italiano, ha usato un traduttore sul suo telefono, cosa che il cassiere non ha notato, e ha fatto commenti offensivi su mia moglie agli altri dipendenti. We stopped here for drinks & dessert. The service was okay. While the waiter was nice, he did not place one of the dessert orders for our table. We didn't say anything because we were ready to leave by the time he came to check on us. The Panna Cotta I had was really good especially the berry sauce. After putting in a lot of steps at the Vatican, it was time to take a pizza break here. We took a table outside and split a pizza over some aperol spritz, which was very refreshing. 10€ Pizza Capricciosa - cheese, champignon mushrooms, tomato, egg, artichokes, olives, ham, salame: The crust was very crunchy and almost a little too hard. What confused me about the pizza was the distribution of ingredients. All the champignon mushrooms were piled up on one side. The olives were putted, but still whole. There were about five olives all clumped together. The one artichoke heart sat by one half of a hard-boiled egg and were not well integrated with the other ingredients. All the toppings appeared segregated as if they didn't belong on the same pizza. The pizza was not bad and this is a decent place to make a pit stop, but I probably would not return since there is so much good food to try in Rome. read more

Ufff where to start :) super good spaghetti and wine. We went with my family on a way back to our apartment from Vatican. Food is super good as well as beer and wine. My kiddo ate whole pizza and said that it's the best pizza that he ever had. Not to fancy, very casual. Be prepared especially US ppl that service is not too fast. To start off, this was not our first choice but my wife and I walked in off the street and took a gamble as our preferred restaurant was closed and the backup was full. La Pancia Felice was a bit crowded when we entered but here were a few tables still open. This is the only grace I'm going to give them here. They were busy. They seated us right in front of the door, which wouldn't have been a problem accept for the fact that it was 48 degrees and the wait staff leave the door open every 10 seconds when they take food to the outside tables. The couple next to us moved in the first 5 mins so we decided to do the same. We asked to be moved to another table due to the cold and after an annoyed eye roll from the Emo looking waiter we're told to wait 2 minutes. This is understandable since they're busy, though we could have done without the eye roll. 5 mins later our food comes and now they say there is no tables available. 5 mins later they offer the table directly next to us which is still directly next to the open door. We ask for boxes to just take it to-go and still finish the bland Cannelloni and Veggies before we ask for the check and box a second time. The waiter takes the pizza to box in the back then leaves it there for some reason. We wait another few minutes standing at the door watching him pass us by 3 more times before we go in the back ourselves and get it from a nice older gentlemen working there. The photo is how they put sliced pizza in a box to-go. Needless to say I walked back to the restaurant to call them out on it. I first spoke to another waiter and he say's that's the best they could do since I sliced it. Then he tells me, "It's a vegetarian pizza that's how it looks. Happy New Year, it's the holidays, smile huh." I told him if they were going to drop it in the box I could have done it myself. Seeing this is going nowhere I say, "Forget it." and tell my wife, "Let's go." And as I walk away shaking my head he proceeds to shout, "Happy New Year," at us down the street a few more times for good measure. Classy. I try very hard not to be an obnoxious, picky American and I can honestly say, it was not me in this case. Hopefully the management will re-train the wait staff to not ignore, annoy, and mock their customers in the future. I think this place is actually a different name now however the plates (wood), tables and some of the menu items look like the right one. The servers were a pleasure, they really got to know us through our three nights in Rome since we had lunch and dinner here many of those days/nights. The highlight for my husband was ICE which they bring out in a little bucket for you and not just one cube in your glass. The other would be great air conditioning. Due to eating here so often we tried a number of dishes from the pastas to the full meals and the pizza, salads and sides. Do be sure to order the veal chop with potatoes and salad, we had that on three different occasions. The tomato salad, the regular salad, the grilled zuchinni/eggplant, spaghetti bolognese, pork with plums were all excellent! The mushroom ravioli was ok but could have used more flavor. The chicken rocket salad was a bit bland but it was a great on a hot day with the lemon squeezed over it. Be certain that you have the cheesecake for dessert! read more

We thought we made a smart decision by walking past the restaurants near the Vatican with servers outside attempting to lure customers inside. La Pancia Felice did not have servers stationed outside, so we said, "hey, this is a better choice." Wrong. The food was not good. We ordered napoli pizza, diavola pizza and the cheese/truffle/eggplant appetizer. Appetizer: I'm confused. We ordered the cheese/truffle/eggplant appetizer. What came out was a cheese/ham/eggplant thing. The cheese was fine, the eggplant totally bland. Where were the truffles? The ham on top wasn't supposed to be there, and it wasn't even good. This wasn't the yummy cured meat we were accustomed to in Italy -- this seemed like a piece of meat someone took off of a pitiful ham sandwich and threw it on the plate. Pizza: Only the napoli showed up to our table. Only the edges of the crust were cooked; the remainder was soggy. Luckily the second pizza was not on the bill. Our server goofed up -- and judging by the lousy pizza, the mix-up was totally fine. Because of this restaurant's location along a busy street and near an attraction, the outdoor seating attracts many peddlers and vendors. Be prepared to be interrupted every 15 minutes or so by a friendship bracelet salesman, accordion player, etc. These constant annoyances did not make for a pleasant meal in my opinion. If you're looking for a low-key, relaxing and stress-free meal, don't eat here. If you're looking for good quality, authentic Roman food, don't eat here. We happened upon this place after a long morning at the Vatican. On the plus side the beverages were good. Our waiter was pushing the "special appetizer" (prosciutto and cantelope on a plate) of which we asked for 2 (there were 4 of us and we planned to share) but he wouldn't listen and insisted we have one per person. The melon was good but overall the dish was not that special and way overpriced. (It the most expensive thing!) pizza was good but calzones were only fair. The total bill for the 4 of us was the same as the bill for our dinner later that day but the dinner was much, much better!! Overall Trattoria Pancia Felice was overpriced and we felt the waiter was intentionally difficult to push us to buy extra overpriced appetizers. So if you decide to go there, carpe diem!! read more

I spent much of my college years working as a waitress--this is unacceptable behavior. And we have been leaving 20% when service is good. We were headed to another restaurant, but it was pouring so we ducked in here. What a mistake! Can you say Chef Boyardee? The spaghetti bolognese was probably the worse I've ever tasted. The spaghetti was over-cooked, it tasted like tomato sauce from a can, and the meat was non-existent. We also ordered a pizza which was okay, but nothing spectacular. Thank goodness though, otherwise we would have left hungry. My fiancé didn't even finish his spaghetti and leaving a plate empty is a very rare occurrence for him. On top of all that- we ordered bruschetta as a starter and our waiter admitted that he had made an error when my pizza came out as the starter. We told him we didn't want the bruschetta anymore, but he brought it out anyway. It was a struggle for us to get it off the bill even though we hadn't touched it. After all of that, we still ended up paying 30€ for mediocre food, a coke, and water. This restaurant is really a poor representation of Italian food and they should be ashamed. Overall the quality of the food is a little subpar compared to other restaurants we've been to in our trip. The real complaint is the chintziness of the meals. Bruschetta. The bread was toasted a little too much in some spots but other than that it was good. Lots of olive oil and lots of tomatoes. Ravioli cheese and spinach with butter and sage. 3 thin pieces of ravioli in a mediocre sauce. I cannot complain about the flavour of the pasta since it was a nice combination of cheese and spinach... just not thick enough or enough of them. Diavola (tomato, mozzarella, hot salami) pizza. It's your typical think-crust pizza but the sauce tastes like it came our of a can. And there was a whopping six little pieces of salami on the whole pizza.
