Our first meal in Versailles! Although a bit on the touristy side, the food itself was decent. The…read moreservice, however, was languorous (even by French standards), practically bordering on absent. A little snooty, too, considering the place is 1) right next to the Chateau with a view of the tour bus parking lot, 2) must get overrun with tourists (they have a menu translated to English), and 3) isn't, shall we say, the most exclusive resto around. Still, it's a decent value. For 13 Euro I got the most gigantic pot of mussels I've ever seen. They were quite delicious, but a little bit on the dry side (not enough of the steaming broth was included to keep things moist).

The food was great, if it wasn't for the terrible service, I would have given them 5 stars. Next time I go there, I'll bring a French speaker to translate. The cuisine is from the Alsace region, which is next to the german border. I recommend the flammkueche, they are like thin crust pizzas, I had the smoked salmon version, it was awesome. I also had the Alsace version of sauerkraut and pork knuckle which was amazing. I am a big fan of sauerkraut, and the French do a great job with it. 3 stars first visit. ******* I recently visited this restaurant again and enjoyed the food and the waiter was very friendly and attentive, completely different from my first experience. Though he also didn't speak English, he was very patient with us. As far as the food went, I actually ordered the exact same dishes. Very good, I would like to visit again.

I settled on the Hal's crab and hubby had the Langoustine Ravioli, which was supposed to be a sharing size. The crab was cold but visually pleasing. There was not much seasoning so the mayo dipping sauce made for a bland tasting dish for me. Hubby enjoyed his Ravioli but the three small pieces did not really seem like a sharing size. Overall nice Paris experience but I definitely left there and ordered some takeout to fill in my empty space.

We were craving seafood after many brasserie (meat forward) suppers this week. We made a…read morereservation on the fly at L'îlot and were rewarded handsomely. We ordered the seafood tower (whole stone crab, langostine, 6 oysters (3 local varieties), tiny fried shrimp in a cup, ten or so whelks. We also had the shrimp roll, a delectable sea bass ceviche, a bowl of tiny mussels in curry broth that was just SO delicious and a whole pan fried sea bream atop a thin cushion of pea purée and topped with red cabbage & carrot. Everything was superb and our server was swift and smiling throughout the evening. The restaurant itself is small & charming with a simple rustic feel. We felt it was undiscovered but it's likely it was just a slow night on a drizzly evening. I'd certainly recommend a visit!
