This is a location referred to us by a tour guide who lives locally so of course we had to try it out. We started with the tuna tartare which is nothing like sushi if that's what you're thinking. It didn't taste fishy at all, it was fresh and light with a little tang. I ordered the chicken fricassee and let me tell you it was unbelievably delicious! The service was friendly and while they didn't speak to me in French and immediately assumed I would take an English menu, you could tell they appreciated that I tried to speak in their language and followed along with Parisian culture. They are more than willing to help. The ambiance was simply breathtaking!! The history of this area and building are perfectly preserved within these walls! The food here was good, fresh, well arranged, and served timely. We had been moved from the outside table to an indoor table due to weather. Oddly enough there was quite a stark contrast in service once this happened. Our original server, outside, was pleasant and helpful, with a good nature about him. Once we got inside, I think our very presence was bothering the server. All in all we did enjoy our meal, but we would have enjoyed the whole experience if we didn't change waiters. read more

One of our Hotel recommendations and we had a 7:30 Dinner reservation on Monday. Just about full with most of the tables occupied. You walk into the Bar area and arrive at the dining room after a few steps through a short hallway. They also have dining on the second floor as well Outdoor seating. Heavy wood accents and although casual has a formal feel and atmosphere. We started with a Lillet Blanc Tonic. Light, refreshing Apertif-we enjoyed it. We wanted Oysters but weren't sure which ones to order so our kind Server suggested getting some of each. Gillardeau (from Charente and stamped with a "G") was our favorite. The Oysters came with St. Malo butter (Infused with Seaweed). A must try and if you don't order Oysters , ask for it-so good! Fried Calamari was tasty/not greasy and paired well with the slightly spicy sauce. For main, it was Moules Frites-so many Mussels (one Liter) and so little time. Normandy Cream was delicious. Snacked Scallops had complex flavors given Leeks & Porcini Mushrooms. Small dish that was rich/decadent. Only thing to change would be Bacon strips were over cooked-crispy -maybe turn them into bits? Don't have room but had to try the Flambéed Crepes with Grand Mariner. It was very good but was missing the Chocolate part that was mentioned. Service was excellent. Mo Mo took great care of us-answering our questions and providing extra information about our food order. Reservations recommended. When in Montmartre, this is the Seafood restaurant. read more

I wish I could give zero stars and get my money back. I writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the experience I had at your establishment. I ordered the oxtail, which unfortunately did not taste good and did not meet basic expectations in terms of flavor and quality. I politely informed the staff that I wanted to send it back. In addition, I had also cancelled the mussels earlier in the meal, yet both the oxtail and the mussels still appeared on my bill. Despite returning the oxtail untouched, I was still charged for it. When I began documenting my experience with a photo and video for my own records, I was met with judgmental and unprofessional stares from the staff--further highlighting the poor customer service. I expected a higher level of respect and accountability from your team, especially in addressing customer concerns. This place has been an establishment for years. We started with a mixture of oysters they were amazing. Plump, briny and absolutely delicious - if you are looking for oysters this is the place. As for the fish, while, I believe there are good choices we were steered in a different direction by the waiter and even at one point came back out over 20 minutes after we ordered and suggested a change. He suggested the Fish and Chips and we know Fish and Chips and the fish has an awful texture - not good at all. We also had the Monk Fish and again not a great choice. If you go I gave a 5 star for the oysters. Just choose what is fresh. read more

Their "croque monsieur" entree had no bechamel or even a cheese crust. It was a ham and cheese grilled cheese sandwich on commercial sliced bread. The fried calamari entree was ok but the pieces were small and dried out by overcooking. Iced tea was very small for the price. Service was ok. The ingredients in their Asian salad with noodles and Nems and juilenne carots and cukes were good but it arrived completely undressed. For the price I would never eat there again. read more

Extraordinarily expensive and very French ... this oyster bar was recommended by a local. I had been in search of the rare and shockingly pricey Gillardeau Oyster and was told they were served here. These are like the Cuban Cigar of oyster ... not every restaurant is allowed to carry them and each oyster's shell is 'laser tattooed' to show that it is genuine, as many restaurants claim to have them ... charge Gillardeau prices and bring you something they scraped off a boat instead. The oysters came to the table with their top shells (tattooed) removed, which dissapointed me and my dozens of instagram followers. Sadly, no oyster tattoo ... no content. This spot has been around since the late 1800's, so I trust their authenticity despite not seeing their 'laser brand.' Thankfully, there was a sampler platter available, so I did not have to go through the embarrassment of ordering only two oysters as a few more likely would add up to the price I paid for our rental car. The oyster platter (suggested) came with 2 Gillardeaus and a pair of several other French oysters. The platter was around 80 Euro for a half dozen, or so, oysters ... so not cheap. Our champagne (split) added to the cost considerably at a markup that even Thomas Keller would have an evil laugh about. The gf had had a ham sandwich at a shop a few doors down. Her 'must have was this sandwich' in Montmarte while mine was a Gillardeau Oyster. Here's where it gets interesting. Before I type this next (slightly unfounded) paragraph ... know that this restaurant has been around for over a century, according to them. It's beautiful and Parisienne. The inside is art deco 1920's splendor. The outside looks at every French cafe you've dreamed of dining at after reading a Paris guide book. The oysters are served on silver platters with crushed ice ... and no ketchup-y cocktail sauce that American steakhouses have. The waiters are professionals ... in dress clothes ... no nonsense and brusque ... but not rude. Here is the subjective part I have to mention. We are at two restaurants this day in Paris. The terrible and snooty Louis l'ami ... and this one. We ate the same split meal at LouisL'ami (escargot, chicken, salad). I ate oysters here and she only drank champagne. That night ... and well into the next day, I was hit with amazingly violent food poisoning. We are talking excorsist-level green pea soup power puking from across the room ... feeling like there was an alien trying to pop out of my stomach ... sweats, chills and more puking. I'm not saying it was an oyster I had here. But ... it's really the best suspect. Even Anthony Bourdain, who was a third-tier friend of mine, was subject to French food poisoning ... his by the way of a dish of Mussels. (Not at this restaurant.) Likely a freak occurrence, but an occurrence none the less. Would I go back? Probably. Lightening couldn't strike twice, could it? No other review mentions my lament, so I am sure it was bad luck. If you have the scratch and are looking for a splurge meal, this is as good a spot as any in Montmartre ... and their seafood platters are very worthy of the gram. read more

Our waiter, Nacer, was very gracious and thoughtful. He made sure that my wife's 50th birthday celebration was exquisite. The beef tartare he made himself was delicious. My wife enjoyed her caviar and bilinis. Ambiance is relaxing and warm. Overall a good place to eat when in Montmartre. read more

I'm not a huge fan of French food but this is a pretty remarkable brasserie. Normandy oysters are some of the freshest ever, ratatouille with a runny egg was super satisfying, and seafood soup was tasty but chock full of BEURRE -- so beware if it doesn't agree with you. Wine selection is lovely as is the service.* Set on a very handsome block in the Abbess area of Montmartre. Prices are about what you would expect for an upscale brasserie. Our two entrees, 6 oysters and a bottle of wine was about €100. However, it's not touristy and is more of a neighborhood spot. Sit inside for the gorgeous Beaux Arts/Art Deco decor or out on the sidewalk for people watching and chain smoking with the locals. * Americans should adjust their expectations abroad. This is France, not Ohio. Don't expect them to hold your hand, but they will take care of you. read more

I take food very seriously and the folks at La Mascotte do as well. Lucky to have found them on my short trip to Paris. La Mascotte is a traditional French restaurant with a seafood focus. They have a hell of a raw bar with an excellent selection. The main menu is not as vast but features a number of favorites. I ordered the steak tartare (the waiter asked me if I knew what it was when I ordered it which I found amusing, but made me wonder how many dumb Americans bitched about raw meat to this guy). It was literally one of the best things I've ever eaten. My husband ordered a fish main which he also enjoyed throughly. I had this place bookmarked before my trip to Paris and while walking the streets of the Montemare neighborhood, I was suddenly reminded of why I wanted to go to La Mascotte. It's inviting, people are smoking tons of cigarettes outside and consuming copious amounts of shellfish. The seafood list is long, extensive and full of worldly delacisies. My friend and I opted for oysters from Normandy, prawns from Madagascar and local crab. It was a killer combo, fresh and delightful to look at. I was pleasantly surprised by how old-school and authentic La Mascotte felt, with a mix of old drunks, new lovers, and fading local celebrities hanging at the bar and dining on curious crustaceans. There's tons of space for whatever kind of dining you want to do: outdoor seating, a grand dining room, bar seats, and an upstairs area. The menu was wonderfully unique (for my American palette), especially if you love seafood. The fruits de mer offerings are worthy of their own aquarium, with sea creatures I never knew existed (let alone tasted good!) The seafood stew was complex and comforting, with a big bowl of cheese, croutons, and aioli to mix in. Sipping cheap white wine, eating gourmet sea snails, and watching the locals make themselves at home here made us feel we'd picked the perfect Parisian spot. Nestled in the Montmatre neighborhood, just minutes away from the infamous Sacre Coeur, one will find La Mascotte. A traditional Parisian style restaurant that serves some of the freshest seafood this side of Paris has to offer. Reservations are unrequired if you plan to try this restaurant during your Parisian getaway as there is a constant flow of patrons coming and leaving. The best seating is located just out front of the restaurant, where you'll be able to watch locals and visitors stroll by. While sipping on a crisp white wine, we were taking in every moment of our time at La Mascotte. Known to have some of the freshest seafood in the area, we made a point to order all of the classics. To start we ordered the fish soup, which comes with a side of crispy bread, cheese and a remoulade - I quite enjoyed the soup, but had expected the broth to have a bit more flavor to it. I followed the fish soup with a pound of mussels and boy was I in heaven. The mussels were to die for. Served in a creamy white wine sauce, along with some slices of fresh baguette, I happily worked my way through as many of the mussels as I could. The mussels also come served with a basket of fries, which I didn't even get the chance to eat. Along with the meal comes great service. The waiters are attentive, professional and happy to help you in whichever language you desire. The prices aren't cheap, but then again not many places are cheap in Paris. At La Mascotte you certainly receive great quality, which I am happy to pay for. read more

Showed up before our evening at Moulin Rogue, no reservation, but we were warmly welcomed and sat immediately. The service was top notch. Our waiter very helpful as he sang all of his remarks. Started with his excellent selection of oysters. Moved to the famous snails, imported from a local family since the '60's. Sole on the bone did not disappoint. Wow, what an experience. Come here for the giant platter of seafood on ice. It's quite a memorable experience. Service was impeccable. Decor is lovely. And the seafood? Unbelievable. We were craving seafood and this place looked good from other reviews. They were busy when we went there for dinner and we asked to sit in the quieter upstairs dining area. Our experience at this restaurant was such a pleasure that we thought it warranted a four-way-fist-bump (see attached pic). Although we arrived late in the evening without a reservation, the staff was very accomodating. And although we were the last to leave, at no time did we feel hurried or treated like tourists. As to the meal, my friends and I shared one of the enormous combination platters -- sea snails, crab legs, cray fish, mussels, etc. -- absolutely delicious and extremely fun. Loved the "liter of mussels" but the baked calamari was underwhelming (too much sauce). We wandered in here while exploring the neighborhood. Our waiter was very nice and very helpful. A plate of 6 oysters picked out by him, the appetizer of the day (black pudding with fruit), fish soup and steak tartar. All excellent. Dessert of pear sorbet and milles foueilles with creme and espresso. The place dates from 1880 and is a wonderful place for a long dejuner. Nice ambiance. We sat down, ordered our meals, and 15 minutes or so later the waiter brought them. Food was average. Far worse, that was the last we saw of our waiter. He never once returned to our table in the next hour. No refills of water. No asking if we wanted another glass of wine or dessert. No clearing used dishes. Nothing. Nadda. When we finally decided to leave I had to get up and find the manager to get a bill. I told the manager we had had NO service and he seemed fairly indifferent, but did offer to bring us the bill. I went back to the table and the waiter approached and asked if there was an issue. I said yes, you gave us no service. He said -- I kid you not -- "can't you see, I have many tables, I am very busy, how can you expect service from me?" I guess dropping 30 Euros on an entree no longer entitles one to service. This restaurant is located nestled in the outskirts of the entertainment district and has become probably my top 5 restaurants of all time. This place is just incredible. The place is primarily a seafood restaurant, so if you are coming here you have to get their oysters. Something that was a bit of a culture shock to me was that French oysters are huge! You will only need 6 of these bad boys as an app! I also ordered the Snails (think cross between a mushroom and a clam) and Steak Tartar (raw meat) for the first time here and they made me a believer! It was that good. I mean I dream about eating there again one day. Literally, my mouth starts to water thinking of all the incredible food....Delicious. The customer service is for a lack of a better work, magnificent. The waiter was super nice and spoke three languages (French, English, and Spanish) in which we conversed in all three languages. There is no such thing as no for them - they will find any way to make you comfortable and happy. The atmosphere is spectacular and the ambiance is super fancy.
