We couldn't be happier with our choice of Bosque School. As a parent, I toured Sandia Prep and…read moreAlbuquerque Academy as well, but Bosque stood out for several reasons that continue to prove themselves year after year. What makes Bosque different is the community. The small class sizes mean my child isn't just a number -- every teacher truly knows them, checks in regularly, and encourages them to take healthy risks. At Academy, we felt the culture was much more high-pressure and competitive, and at Sandia Prep the environment was good but not quite as personal as Bosque. The academics at Bosque are rigorous, but not overwhelming. My child is challenged, supported, and actually enjoys learning. The senior thesis and independent projects prepare students for college in ways that go beyond test scores. At Academy there are more AP courses, but the trade-off seemed to be higher stress and less balance. Another unique strength is how Bosque uses its location in the bosque (river forest) for science, service learning, and hands-on projects. That connection to nature, plus strong arts programs, has given my children experiences they wouldn't have had elsewhere. Social-emotional support is woven into the culture, which was important to us. We wanted a school where our child would be seen, known, and valued -- and Bosque really delivers.

Because ZUMBA! I mean, do you need another reason?…read more My family in the midwest would disown me, that's how bad I was, hopping on the ice rink after, oh, 20 years in the desert. The McDermott Athletic Center offers what appears to be a regulation-sized rink, well maintained, with bench risers for spectators and heart-slobbery pop rock (think Gin Blossoms) on the speakers for teens who really don't have much to do in Rio Rancho besides flirt on ice. It's sweet, it really is, and such a law-abiding way to pass the time. My daughter also learned how to skate on this ice, she's eight, and I had a good time, even if I didn't represent my tribe very well. Obviously, this Center staffs a team of skate instructors and hosts team play on the regular. We visited for a birthday party, checking on pricing, a group of up to 10 kids, rentals, pizza and soda included appears to be a great deal. Moreover, the facility has a sizable weight room, good batting cages, a basketball court and gymnasium, and... wait for it... ZUMBA. That's right, you're going.

The young man who was in charge of helping me with the party was exceptional! He was accommodating for everything we needed and the kids had a great time! What I love about this place is the one on one help each child gets during the lesson. Master Jim really lights up while working with the kids. You can tell he loves teaching Taekwondo. They learn discipline and respect, counting and other words in Korean. The lessons also help with focus and concentration. Class here is the highlight of my little man's week. Every morning he asks if today is a Taekwondo day. I wasn't sure how he would do with three days a week, but he absolutely loves it. I am watching my little unsure shy guy come out of his shell. He memorized the rules of Taekwondo after his second day and is just so eager to keep or practicing and learning more.

Master Jim is patient, kind, yet, stern. He has high expectations for his students in (and out) of class and teaches without demoralizing. (The classes are taught with Korean immersion so students are learning skills with correct terms. I LOVE THIS!) The Dojang is clean and the atmosphere is intimate, friendly and structured. My son has been enrolled for 2 weeks and I have seen a positive and dramatic change in his character. Example: Last week the children had some fun skill building challenges. If he would have "lost a challenge" 2 months ago, he would have had a major meltdown. On Friday, he dropped and did 5 push-ups and then sat straight up to wait his turn for the next challenge.

I needed interim…read morecare for my 19 month old toddler because we lost our other sitter to a day job, and we were still on a waiting list for a daycare/preschool closer to home. The Y had an opening, and we went. Well, I am really glad that we did. The carers are awesome, they all made a fuss over my son everyday, which was great. They have a little report card they give you at the end of the day so you have some idea how your kidlet ate, napped and generally did during the day. The staff are fun, friendly and have a really good sense of humor, which I really appreciate. They made sure all the kids were fed often, and were prompt to change diapers. My son never had any issues with rashes or other diaper stuff. Pros: The staff are great, very engaged with the kids, and my son was always relaxed and happy at the end of the day. They got to play a lot of games, there's a big space and not too many kids (15 total) for the number of caregivers (3 at any time). They have the same people there, so the kids have consistency in caregivers too, which I really like. They did different activities, painting, drawing, singing, and just playing. Cons: the only con was that the outdoor area isn't ideal. It's in an office building so the outdoor space is concrete. There are foam pads on the ground, so the kids won't get scrapes when they fall, and there's lots of toys, but it's still concrete. I think given the location, and the awesome staff, that isn't a terrble thing for me. Overall, I do recommend YMCS downtown daycare. They are really convenient, really nice and reasonably priced, too!

Your child is not safe here. The staff is not properly trained due to higher ups prioritizing money over their students and staff. Linda is by far the worst school higher up i have ever encountered in a school system. She doesn't investigate crucial issues in her facility. She does not have anyones interest but her own in mind. She refused to have anyone answer why my daughter was refused access to their facility even though they are staffed and she has a contract with the state. A "I dont know." Is unacceptable for their line of work. Linda much rather punish you, your child, and her staff for her own incompetence. Please reconsider enrolling your child else where before here. I couldn't have been more happy!!! To book, I emailed the owner and placed a $125 deposit and then $125 was due upon arrival. This was for a 2 hour reservation. In my opinion, this is very reasonable, competitive with other venues, and WELL worth it :) Upon arrival, the owner was so pleasant! She showed us around and let us know that if we needed anything, to just ask. For example, extra plates, napkins, or serving tools. She explained the time would be sectioned in two categories. The first hour would be for the kids to play and be led in play. Then, the next hour, would be for food and opening presents. Everyone had such a good time watching their little ones play! She had so many things for the kids to do. *Beware, the outside is not the most presentable. However, upon walking in, it is very clean, well decorated, organized, and everything else good!! They offer other services, which I am definitely interested in. So, I'll have to follow them on social media, because I definitely want to go back :)

The space is clean, bright, and super inviting, and it's clear that the staff really cares about creating a safe, fun environment for the kids. Watching him come home happy and full of energy (and ready for a nap!) is the best part. I can't recommend this class enough for anyone looking for a positive, engaging activity for their little one. We're so grateful for the Bounce n Boogie team!
