Great service! The room was very reasonably priced and good value for money. Nothing fancy, but it was exactly what we needed (ie. cheap, good and close to town). The front desk was very helpful in giving us recommendations for restaurants within the walled city and other information about Dinan. The location is perfect - just a stone's throw away from the center and its many restaurants and activities. I absolutely recommend the hotel's breakfast that includes croissants, bread, yoghurts, fruit and homemade jam. While I was there I was lucky enough to try the grapefruit jam (a revelation!) and a reine claude plum jam.

There is free wi-fi although it's not the best -- but watching the sea, and the CRAZY tides here, are vastly more interesting than anything you're trying to look at on your device. You can also sit on the terrace overlooking the sea at breakfast if you choose the garden-view room. There is a long staircase coming down from the street, and no lift, so may not be the best choice for someone with impaired mobility.

It has three great rooms - we stayed in one called La Colville which sleeps a family of four (plus a baby - in an antique cot). The whole house has been well restored - a la Grand Designs for those people familiar with the UK TV series. The owner, Monsieur Tizon, is a real character and met us on arrival along with his pets - Madame Plume (le chien) & Mimi (le chat) who became the highlight for our 16 month son. Msr. Tizon is great - speaking French to you if you want or English if you struggle. The breakfast is continental style i.e. croissants, pain-au-chocolate, pain-au-raisin but his homemade jams are delicious, as is the local apple juice. From the house there is a short walk to a view of Mont St Michel in the distance, where we had spent the day before arriving at Les Blotteries. Hats off to Msr. Tizon for a great stay in a lovely house. One warning if you are planning to stay with a baby. The cot has very low sides so if your little one is standing/crawling there is every chance they will try to escape. It was not a problem for us as we had tired the wee fella out climbing the stairs on the Mont. Another tip - don't take a pram into the Mont as there are more stairs than I can remember.

I suggest you park near Porte St Vincent and walk 5 minutes as there is absolutely no parking nor stopping by the hotel) the hotel made more than up for it when we got there. Just walking up the cobblestone street made you feel like you stepped back in time. The outside of the hotel is quaint and inviting with flower boxes and pretty signage. The hotel is situated close to everything but in a more quiet section of the street (with a fabulous vegetarian restaurant just a few doors up.) The room was clean, cozy, and comfortable. You hear the cries of the seagulls all around which we found very maritime but closing the new windows will drown them out when you've had enough maritime feeling :) The owners were so nice and very helpful, and their little doggie is so cute. The breakfast buffet was delicious with homemade pastries and all local products. In summary, I can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to everyone, and I will certainly stay there again the next time I visit St. Malo.

We stayed at the Hotel Balzac in March 2016 and were very satisfied. Granted, it's an older style hotel, with small basic rooms and dated furnishings. But it is clean and comfortable, with a friendly staff and a central location in the upper town. (Follow the signs for the Tourist Office. The hotel is on the same street.) About 2 blocks away, at the Place du Général Lariboisière (look for the horse statue), there is a city-owned garage with free parking. The only catch is that it is locked up between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., so you won't have access to your car in the evening. If you're okay with that, this garage is a good place to park overnight.

Luckily someone didnt show for their reservation and we got in this place.. Its older and charming.. Got two rooms, one for mom and one for me and my boyfriend (54EUR/night). Both were small but had an antique touch, spacious bathrooms which was appreciated. Flat screen with many channels. We had a balcony. Great breakfast next day in a lovely room on one of the main streets, took a stroll to the public park and overlook just down the road. Woman owner is very kind. Recommended very highly!

We had a beautiful and well equipped room, overlooking the river and even if we could hear it slightly during night even with the window closed, it didn't bother us much. Our double bed was huge and the room was rather spacious. Breakfast was great and the staff was extremely friendly. We even stayed with our cat and the hotel accepted animals for 8€ sup. To finish, they have a big open air parking which was free to use for residents, just across the road from the hotel.

Services are limited -- for example, reception closes in the evening, and daily maid service does not include cleaning of the kitchenette. Therefore, this isn't quite the place if you've come to be pampered! With that said, there were a few things that were a little weird about our three-night stay. First, the WC had the faint odor of urine. In addition, on the first night the water in the bathroom only reached a lukewarm temperature, which wasn't a very nice bathing experience. Also, although the kitchenette has basic cutlery, plates, etc, they don't provide soap or other cleaning material with which you can wash your dishes. On the upside, both WiFi and parking are free and plentiful. The town of Dinan also provides a nice home base if you're driving to other sights such as Dinard, Mont St Michel, and St Malo.
