If you've got a large group and you've already tried a couple places in the area with no luck, La Puerta Azul may just have the room on short notice. The place is huge, with a couple of separate areas (the bar, the sunken dining room, the regular dining room). If you're as lucky as we are, you'll be put in the Aztec Room, a private-ish spot with a lazy susan (Susanna here, I believe). There's also a fun waterfall by the entrance, and you get to walk over some water on the way in. We sat down quickly, and were treated very well by a number of servers. We quickly had excellent chips and salsa, and guacamole following shortly behind. From there, we ordered a large variety of Mexican and not-so-Mexican dishes, and most were very solid. My daughter wanted some steak, so I rolled with the Carne Asada which was quite flavorful, but a surprisingly small portion for $40. My wife's LPA salad was exactly what we were expecting (solid), as were the traditional Mexican chicken fingers my other daughter wanted. The best thing I tried was actually some chicken mole enchilada situation that one of my friends got, and another person was quite pleased with his enchiladas with Colorado sauce. We have been to LA Porta Azul a few times and in all honesty and we have not been disappointed. They start you off with salsa and chips which is warm and delicious. Then we had the guacamole which is outstanding. A little Pico and cilantro on top. Then we both had the Baja shrimp tacos. Wife had the corn and I had the flour tortillas. The slaw and the sauce used are very flavorful. Atmosphere is nice, service is outstanding and the prices are very good as well. Only drawback was the beer that we sent back was warm. Love this place! The food is always very satisfying and flavorful. Especially their variety of tacos- you're able to order 2 of each and try different flavors in one order. This time I got Baja shrimp tacos and they were deliciously fried and fresh! The shredded beef were good but not my favorite. I did NOT expect the nachos to be as massive as they were so be warned- nachos are great for a large group! And the complementary chips and salsa are always delicious. Took our niece and nephew out to dinner and my niece picked here. We were greeted and seated quickly. She wanted her favorite rice and corn bowl... anyway, we also got the guacamole, I had the carne asada, my husband had the tacos. 2 steak and 2 mahi mahi. Our food was very good. My nephew had the chicken tenders and was saying they were spicy. I thought they were very good. But, i can taste where he was coming from. They were well seasonedZ I think he tasted pepper. Raffii the owner was our server for our party of 10 since they were short staffed. From the moment we walked in the door Raffii treated us like family and all the workers were outstanding. The food was absolutely amazing and the drinks were incredible! Raffii amazed us with suggesting meals and surprising my husband with a meal that he Raffii chose! We will definitely be back. I had tried this restaurant a while back and didn't have a great experience. However, a while back I heard that there has been a change in management so I finally came back to try this place out... And it did not disappoint! My friend and I came here on a quiet Monday night and the place was pretty empty. We were greeted warmly and was served with complementary chips and creamy salsa right away and the wait staff was great with his timing on when to check on us for drink and food orders. For drinks, I had the cocktail Nina-tini, which was vodka with blood orange juice and lime and Azul, pina colada and something blue and pineapple...so yummy & dangerous! My friend and 2 margarita and they were very good too. For dinner, we had the salmon and the shrimp entrees (Don't ask me the names as I can't remember or pronounce them!), But both dishes were very well seasoned, right amount of spicy, and big portion! The fish was cooked perfectly, tender and juicy. I can only finish half of my food in order to leave room for dessert!! For dessert, we split a chocolate lava tart that came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The had these caramel chips on the ice cream and on the side of the tart that were so delicious. The food was good but very pricey. Which when the service is lackluster isn't justified. We found a hair deep inside one of the last tacos on our plate and we were not interested in a replacement. The waitress did not even offer a discount. We didn't make a big deal out of it. Because things happen but we could see into the kitchen and none of the cooks had hairnets on. They were very attentive to the people around us but the service we received was mediocre at best. I don't know if we were treated different because we were not from the area but I was highly disappointed. This is my favorite Mexican food spot. Its bot the typical menu. Food is the highest quality starting from their homemade salsa . I always order the seafood Paella which is the best Paella i have ever eaten. Its wonderfully put in the dish like art and taste so good. The chef is amazing. Discovered this as via google maps from the highway, and it blew us away. Pulling up to a small strip mall my expectations were fairly low, and stepping through that blue door brought us through to a hidden gem. The wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable, amd approachable with questions and menu modifications for dietary needs. When the food came, the serving sizes were generous and my picky eater children asked to come back again in the future. We don't live in the area, but we do come up this way annually. We will return, that is a definite. Note: the guacamole has a nice kick, but anyone sensitive to heat should specify that the want their food light spice. read more

The entrance to the restaurant is amazing, the scenery with the waterfall and the music/ decorations the owner or a seater greets you quickly and nice complementary chip and guacamole are brought out. The owner was very friendly and helped us group of five pick his personal favorites based on what we decided we wanted to eat. Prices are amazing for portions and its a overall great family lunch/dinner place. The churros were a amazing dessert as everything from the bread to the corn/flour tortillas in tacos are homemade. The environment is okay. But the service is horrible. The waitresses were very rude, ours were very snarky and passive aggressive. The floors are a safety hazard and extremely slippery, I almost slipped multiple times, it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. The food was okay just very pricey for what it is. I'm nervous for the employees as I heard shouting from the owner during my previous time there. The employees honestly look unhappy until they come to the table to pretend to be perky. We stopped here for lunch on our way back to NYC. Restaurant was big and nicely decorated. Bathroom were super clean and smelled nice. All the portions were huge! Lol. The coffee was a good perfect size for me. I ordered a carnitas burrito. I asked for no pico de Gallo in mine and no jalapeños. Sadly, my burrito came with jalapeños. It was kinda Annoying but I don't like to waste food so I had to pick it all out. Aside from that, it tasted really good. The flavor was on point. All the burritos came with a heaping pile of guacamole on top. My boyfriend ordered a chicken burrito, chicken was like chicken, dry. So it was okay. We have eaten here several times and have been pleased in the past. But, let me tell you, we went Saturday, April 1st and it was the absolutely worst. The food was was disgusting and could even eat it. What a huge disappointment. I wanted to mention it to the nice women with the curly hair(might be a manager) how horrible our experience was. The waiter was awful too. Didn't give us the time of day. We tip normal but seriously if you were treated the way we were, you wouldn't have tip.
