I went for their country rodeo night, and I was excited: outdoor activities, mechanical bull, country music. Count me in. I was meeting a few friends there and when I arrived there was a huge crowd of people outside, it looked fun and lively but my friends warned me off the bat it was tough trying to get a drink. From the size of the crowd I wasn't surprised and I've been around enough to know sometimes it be like that. When I went inside however it was far less crowded than I expected, there were even a few tables open and a perfect spot to order at the corner of the bar. So you'll understand my frustration when I was made to wait 25+ minutes for a drink, so long that my girlfriend was worried and came looking for me. Again, the bar itself was not nearly as busy as it should've been for me to wait 25+ minutes to be served. What made it all worse was being forced to watch the bartenders check their phones (as though bored), talk to and record TikToks for their friends, and joke with each other. On top of that was the fact that clearly only the two groups of ten or so people were being repeatedly served who clearly were friends with the bartenders. I looked around me to see several other patrons clearly in the same situation. Then finally after an eternity of being outright ignored one of the staff made eye contact and came over for our order. Here's the real kicker: As soon as I started to order one of the bartenders and a random guy with a camera setup started yelling at to shut the $$$$ up so that they could do the mannequin challenge (10 year old trend btw). My drinks were forgotten about for the time being and I was forced to sit there at the bar counter being recorded or lose my place. Swear to God it was like a humiliation ritual lol. Mind you I played along and was polite the whole time waiting. When I finally got my drinks, shortly after my girlfriend came to check on me, the bartender practically threw the checkbook at us and walked off with a disgruntled attitude. So yeah it didn't help that we had to then wait for somebody to come back and take my card to pay for the actual drinks. So fairly enough I was pissed man, it was clear to me that the bar staff were poorly trained (or just inexperienced), unhygienic, rude, and were there to cater to their friends instead of serve people coming there for the first time as I had. The rest of the night was fine; the DJ was great, and me and my friends had a good time hanging outside until we finished our drinks and left. My friends described a similar though not as grating experience. Pleasant Valley deserves better in my opinion and I would not recommend this bar to anyone with finite patience or time on their hands. The initial experience really almost ruined part of the night for me I can't lie. Do not come here, there are better bars.

So when we finished our tour of the Vanderbilt mansion around lunchtime, we took the winding path to get here in 20 minutes (located about 5 miles Northeast of downtown Poughkeepsie). The interior was newer, and wasn't too crowded. One waitress/bartender was running front of house and was extremely helpful and friendly. It's a townie bar, where everyone seemed to know each other. Restaurants like these depend on the mercy of delivery, and found out after we ordered that two of our choices (Clams Casino and Buffalo Wings) were not available. Instead, my wife got the Fish & Chips ($20), with me getting the recommended Ribeye Melt ($21). Blue moon was on tap, so got that (way overpriced at $9 for 12 oz). The fish dish promised us 3 beer-battered cod loins, and it delivered. Each piece was large and had been expertly deep fried. The fries were thick and crisp, and the same ramekin of cole slaw was perfect. Even though none of it was homemade, for me, it was one of the best fish fries I've had in a while. My recommended Ribeye sandwich was great as well. I really liked the crunchy and solid ciabatta bread, and the meat and cheese was generous, and tender/melty respectively. The fries were good, expertly prepared, not too greasy. This is the kind of diner I like...where the food comes mostly pre-prepared, but it's clear they have a really good food supplier, and are able to keep the food prices down.
